I completed my Certificate in Nail…

I completed my Certificate in Nail Technology and had a mixed experience. The staff are AMAZING and always offer great support. Ellena, the course instructor offers excellent insight and advice around the realities of being a working Nail Technician. My issues are with the platform itself and the out of date education being provided (which is NOT the fault of Open Colleges) and the lack of emphasis of WHERE nail products are manufactured for higher safety. For example: 1. Having to upload a 8-10 minute recording, in mp4 format, that is under 470mb is ridiculous. (It says 500mb but anything over 470-480 won’t work) 2. The overwhelming typos and confusing sentence structure is absolutely unprofessional to say the least 3. The constant going on about nail polish when MOST NAIL TECHS DO NOT USE this is out of date (again not the fault of OC) 4. The lack of actual education around Nail Art is disappointing given the reality of today’s working Nail Tech and what we are expected to be able to do/create Overall, the staff are fantastic but the platform itself? Definitely needs to be improved.

Lots of room for improvement

the reading materials were often set for the American context rather than Australian and often full of typos. Navigating around the modules when doing assignments was clunky. Assessment tasks included menial activities that were time consuming but not a reasonable test of skill or knowledge (eg 'write an email to explain your findings'). Requirement for role plays wih multiple actors was a burden on family.

Highly Recommend

One of the great services of Open Colleges was having quick access to a teacher and get feedback within an hour. The times when the teacher was away they would contact me via email or phone when back at work. This service made learning blockages minimal and thus made studying easy and enjoyable. The mini video lectures, quizes and written material was straightforward to understand and the assignments were all applicable to practical accounting work. A few months after finishing my Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping I obtained a full-time accounting job. A big reason for this was the quality of the course from Open Colleges was of a high standard and the assistance from teachers was excellent. Highly recommend Open Colleges

Great Training, Great Subjects. Highly Recommend.

From the person who responded to my online request right through to the Trainer who got me through the final assignments I always received practical and patient help. The subjects were interesting and I enjoyed the assignments. The course has brought me to where I feel very equipped to move forward into a new career.

Studying with Open College's was a great experience.

Studying with Open College's was a great experience. The fact that its online means I could get it done in my time. It was only when Covid hit when it started to be a pain, it was difficult to find work placement when it first started, then modules were changed and added which caused me some stress. The Assessors throughout the whole course were fantastic, and did their very best to help even through covid and I wouldn't have been able to finish without it.

Definitely go with another education institution - NOT open colleges

Sorry, Open Colleges does not even deserve a one (1) star rating. They take on average 5 weeks to mark an assessment, then if you have to make a small change to a question, its another 5 weeks before you hear from them. Then staff are so rude and say that i am taking too long to do course - omg! I have a friend who did the same course with another institution and they got their assessments back in about 7-10 days. Open Colleges assessors don't turn up to assess you and they never respond to emails. I was forced to pay extra money to do an online manual handling course because assessor didn't turn up to assess my manually handling. I was so frustrated with Open Colleges, paid a heap of money for nothing, Finished everything and never received a result. I am in the process of taking legal action against them. Do yourself a favour - DONT enrol with Open Colleges.

Don't expect it to be easy!

Don't expect it to be easy! I chose to study my cert 3 in childhood education via Open Colleges because I naively thought there would be less work. Well, there was a tonne of work! The workplace portfolios alone are just a crazy amount of work. Getting through this coursework was so overwhelming. The work itself isn't hard, there is just so much of it that I couldn't see myself ever completing the cert. Thankfully, the team were willing to give me multiple extensions for my course. I started at the end of 2018, and only just recently completed the course in June of 2021. I only recommend studying with Open Colleges if you are a self-motivated individual.

Cert lll In Education Support

The course was great and the content was floorless, I give 4 out of 5 as as with anything it can always be improved. Quite often I felt I was falling between the cracks, I'm sure with computers these days its not hard to write a program that monitors student activity and if there is nothing for a few weeks maybe flag that student for an assessor to touch bass with. The problems I have in my life are out of the ordinary and often I felt lost and that nobody know or cared (however everyone I talked to was always very helpful and understanding) Just feel this could help keep some students (like myself) motivated and on track.

Open Colleges have been amazing with me…

Open Colleges have been amazing with me and my studies in Travel. My assessor was so accomodating and helped me immensely. Having the ability to study from home, has been great for me. I have two young babies and a household to upkeep and throughout this pandemic, my assessor Tanya, has been wonderful. I would highly recommend Open Colleges for your next studies. Thanks again!

May as well be a degree not a Celtic

The trainers put so much pressure on students to answer questions which have no relevance to the qualification. Peter McClatchey asked for adjustments to assesments on the final day of studies and his comments did not match the study materials or the questions in the assessment. The pressure this put on my partner who is a full time working single mum is ridiculous. I have worked in the field of training and education coplaince for many years and have never seen anything as ridiculous as this

A mixed experience

Academic support was very good. However, learning materials were outdated, poorly edited and QA’d. The Open Spaces team and support were very good.
