The tour guides, bus driver and our lead guide were all great. Most places we visited were interesting, however I personally think it would have been nice for the kids to see smaller communities and actually interface with the locals.
Much of the trip felt like we were being funneled through tourist traps, from one historical site to the next 'gift shop' where the kids and adults were being swarmed by shop owners hovering over us and trying to get us to buy stuff. Some of the kids were entirely ripped off at the pottery shop purchasing sterling silver jewelry that is worth no more than $45 dollars and they paid $300 dollars for a ring. Unfortunately,, there wasn't an adult nearby to consult with. Most of the trip felt like we were being ushered to these tourist traps to buy things and help the economy instead of taking us to more interesting locations that offered more interest.
The other thing that was pretty disappointing but not surprising is the amount of money we spent and the quality of hotels we stayed at. Grossly of kilter here. For what we paid, we should have been staying in E125 (at least) hotels per night, however, we were placed in some very old, dumpy, gross hotels that were much, much more like hostels than hotels.
I mean EF needs to make a profit right? You think they would not be so greedy when it comes to accommodations.
My son had fun, and he made memories that he'll have forever, but we don't typically travel like tourists as a family, and we like to immerse ourselves in the culture more than following the crowds and doing all the touristy things. We also like comfort and nice hotels within reason.
My son and I stayed behind for an additional 10 days and had an amazing time in Milos. We spent 1/8th of what this tour costs and has a much more relaxed, lovely and comfortable time and, we got to do and see all the things we wanted to.
I realized once we were on our own that we could have literally stayed in Greece for the entire summer and stayed in really nice accommodations for the price we paid for the tour. That's probably my biggest complaint.
My favorite part of touring was not having to plan anything or cook any meals. The hotel breakfast was terrible and boring, lunches were okay depending on the day, dinners somehow were always good.
Can't say I would ever do this again, I would rather plan my own vacation to Europe away from tourists, tourist sites and tourist traps.
