Review summary
Dexters Estate Agents receives consistently positive reviews. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about communication and customer service.
Renting out your home of over 14 years is never easy, logistically or emotionally.
Elizabeth and the team at Dexters have guided us through this journey with professionalism, diplomacy, and efficiency. We’re incredibly grateful for their support and understanding, especially given that the process is rarely straightforward or predictable. Thank you!
Dexters - especially Joshua Anthony - have made the renting process really straightforward. Joshua responds to queries immediately, gets things moving, and keeps you updated - you couldn't ask for more!
Bethan Pike was our property manager and has probably been the most caring and attentive person we've had manage our tenancy. When we ever had issues with the property, she was always responsive and helpful and also managed the end of our tenancy/deposit very well, handling a dispute with our landlord. We've had horrendous experiences with estate agents and private landlords in the past so it's a breath of fresh air to know there are great people out there.
Lottie at Dexters in Surbiton was on the ball, and always called me back if I left a message. She is very helpful and keen, and a great asset to Dexters. I would recommend using Lottie for your next house sale.
The whole team in Dexter is super helpful and always very attentive to our needs. Daragh, in a particular moment of challenge, was very thoughtful and thorough. Thank you so much for taking care of us!
Just lazy! They don't do viewings on Mondays and only at certain times of day during the rest of the week. They should work for us not the other way around. Someone probably made a lot of money for coming up with this rubbish customer-unfriendly idea. The other agents work so hard and these people sit and drink tea all day on Mondays. I would NEVER use them to sell my property. So many better agents in London. I agree with those reviews that say AVOID!
After reading the response from Dexters
I am not sure what you would like me to add. I don't wish to take this debate offline. It's very straightforward, does Dexters offer viewings on Mondays at client's convenience - yes or no? I was refused viewings on my only day off this week. I was also told during other days viewings could only take place at certain times of the day. This is truly unacceptable and ridiculous.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME BY DEXTERS.
I've been looking for a property for over 3 months and I found Dexters the most unorganized agency ever. They never care about people's time, requirements or anything. For example Kensal Rise & Queen's Park Office canceled a vewing without any notice! Imagine driving for 45 minutes to view somewhere and you realise they canceled without telling you! The other thing was that Shepherds Bush and Brook Green Office set me 7 viewings on Saturday which is an important day for viewing for those who work during the week and none of them had the minimum of requirements we asked for! Are people just money machines to you Dexters guys? I rather live on the street than calling Dexters agency to find me a home.
This real estate agent's St Margarets office is the worst company I have ever dealt with, and I would definitely not recommend renting a house from them!
I rented a house from this company in March 2024, signed a contract, and made the deposit along with the first rent payment. Throughout this process, they constantly pressured me to make the payments as soon as possible.
After signing the contract, we planned to move in during the week of May 15, 2024. However, they informed me that the house was not ready and that I would need to postpone my move.
I have a daughter who goes to school, and I had arranged everything, including her school transfer. Just 3-4 days before our move, I was told that we could not move in. Despite obtaining a parking permit for my car and making necessary changes to utilities and other arrangements, I could not move into the house I had paid for two months in advance.
Due to this company's negligence, my daughter's school transfer was delayed, and I had to cancel all other moving arrangements. They did not pay the legal interest on the money I paid 2-3 months in advance, nor did they offer to cover the cost of the parking permit I purchased.
I strongly advise against working with this company. I also reported the situation to Dexter's headquarters, but there was no response from them either.
18 years with Dexters Chiswick. Great Lettings team.
Phil Truss sets a very high standard that's hard to beat. I get bombarded with letters from other estate agents in the area but I haven't been tempted to leave.
Purchased our first flat from Dexters, they delayed giving us the key by ten days to give them enough time to paint and clean flat.
After 10 days we received a filthy flat, with furniture left behind, not even one surface was clean. No paint either. They blamed it on 'third party'.
Horrible experience. Would not recommend to work with them to buy property. We had the worst experience buying our first flat with them.
AVOID AVOID AVOID
Worst experience with Dexters Westbourne Grove sales team. They were unprofessional, misleading and deceptive. They did not disclose the true seller or that there was a restriction on title preventing the sale of the property they were marketing for sale, even after our offer was accepted. This caused us great delay, costs, stress and anxiety. When the seller pulled out of the sale they continued to market a property that could not be sold even after the restrictions were brought to their attention (and which they should have known prior to marketing the property). I would give them zero stars if I could. Extremely unhappy with the service. Expect much better from a firm like Dexters.
Warning to both tenants and landlords wishing to use Dexters

DON’T BE FOOLED as Dexters is NOT London's leading Estate Agency although this is their advertising tagline. (Part 1 of 2)
We rented a property from Dexters Blackheath Branch in October 2023 and were tied into a 24 month no break clause. As an architect I could see the property was in bad shape when I viewed and video’d it and was promised verbally that everything I pointed out as unacceptable, would be remedied in a 10 day period between the previous tenant vacating and myself taking occupation. I questioned Dexters that I doubted it would be enough time to remedy the defects, however Dexters insisted it could be achieved and the deal was signed and sealed. 3 days before we were due to take occupation, I was contacted asking if I could delay my move in date as the previous tenant had not handed back the keys and the contractors had only just gained access and the previous tenant had left the home in a state which meant they couldn’t achieve the repair work during the remaining 3 days. We couldn’t delay our occupation date at such short notice, however I agreed that we were happy for contractors to continue repairs for the first few weeks whilst living there and would simply not unpack in the meantime and use minimal rooms. We moved into a home with wet carpets and damp, to find that the only repairs done were sticking plaster remedies of painting over mouldy walls, not repairing the source of the damp and already the mould was growing through the freshly painted odd damp wall. At the same time I received a welcome email from Dexters CEO, asking if we were happy with the property. I responded that we were not and was handed over to the manager of Dexters South East London properties maintenance and repairs, who smugly told me that there were no notes on the signed tenancy agreement to repair the property, so we were to take it as it was. I posted the incident on TrustPilot stating that I had video evidence that the property would be repaired as a condition of the tenancy agreement. Shortly after that I received a call from the Managing Director of Dexters Blackheath Branch assuring me that the home would be repaired asap and that he was was going to be cheeky enough to ask me to write a follow up positive review about it on TrustPilot, when it was all completed. I decided to be diplomatic and a gentleman and removed my negative review as a token of belief in his promise. In hindsight I believe this would be a generic story he’d give to many tenants who have complained on TrustPilot to take the heat of Dexters.
Unfortunately what unfolded over the past 7 months has equated to beyond disastrous. In a nutshell, it was discovered that the house was not insulated (contrary to a “valid” EPC certificate). The gas shut of valve was inaccessible and boarded over. The smart water meter was connected to another home and Thames water was charging us their water usage (incidentally when I asked the Dexters property management contact person, where the gas and water stop valves were, she did not know and neither bothered to find out, saying I needed to deal with Thames Water and British Gas) The gutters had holes in them hence the leaking causing severe damp and mould in 4 of the 8 rooms. There was the occasional wafting smell of sewage throughout the ground floor from under the floor boards (which Dexters claimed was normal in an old Victorian house and we should live with it) which was eventually discovered to be an uncapped sewer pipe from a removed toilet which is now part of the kitchen, which cowboy renovators had simply placed a wooden floor over. Rats were coming out of this uncapped sewer pipe and nesting under the floorboards. (The neighbour told me that this problem has dated back years and one previous tenant moved out, cancelling her tenancy agreement as she had a toddler who became poorly because of the rats) I had to revert to lawyers and the Greenwich Environmental Health Services to intervene after 4 months of being told by Dexters, that because it’s an old Victorian House, therefore rats and the smell of sewer is the norm. The list of other faults with the house which are in breech of the tenancy contract is exhaustive. The Landlords have to repair these defects else the house is not fit for habitation, sale nor letting out, by law. Dexters first solution was that we move out and they and the Landlords would kindly allow the 24 month no break clause tenancy agreement to be voided. My lawyers advised against this stating that once we accepted to abolish the agreement, the home would simply be rented to another unsuspecting tenant who would spend months / years going through the same fight and the agency and Landlord would simply keep collecting rent.
Really professional and timely responses from them especially Danilo Shabudin. I have had a few requests over past few days that Dan professionally handled. Highly recommend
