Having class once a month worked perfectly with my busy life and Chrysalis was just perfect for my needs. Both the my teacher and student support were very helpful and supportive on this journey.

Just finished my first year with Chrysalis and completed my hypnotherapy course. It’s been a very positive experience. I have learned a lot and met some amazing people on my course. Our hypnotherapy tutor - Mark Vanner - was excellent. He is highly knowledgeable, an expert hypnotherapist and super friendly and supportive. I’m now starting my first year of the counselling skills and can’t wait! Recommended.
It's a shame there's no option for no stars. Journey from beginning to end Interview: - No real questions about knowledge, understanding or capability. - Offered on the spot, no time to make an informed decision about the course. - Payment expected there and then. No explanation of course structure. - No time to research further. - Pressured to sign up for 3 years with no explanation of the implications of this : ie you can't leave after year 1, even though it's a stand alone course. - If you leave after year 1 you're still expected to pay for the next 2 years that you don't want to attend. The course - Not allowed tables in the class room. - Not allowed to use a laptop. - expected to print out pages and pages of materials each class. - Materials for the class are just a repeat of the online homework expected each class. - Tutor (although lovely) reads the class notes you've already read and then takes time I'm class to re write them on flip chart paper word for word. Practice - Year 1 is Hypnotherapy. Most people on the course want to do Counselling so there's a lack of interest and motivation for this topic. - Hypnotherapy does not relate to counselling yet you HAVE to do this year to get on to the counselling u less you have another counselling qualification from elsewhere...yet Hypnotherapy is not an equivalent qualification so that doesn't make any sense. - I tried to leave following the loss of a job and not being about to afford the monthly repayments but was told to check my contract as I'd, unknowingly, signed something in the small print to say I had to continue paying. I was offered to defer but I didn't want to do the course anymore for a number of reasons - You're asked to do a number of Hypnotherapy practice hours by the end of the course, these are not regulated and you can just write anything. - if you miss a submission or a class they just lock you out of your materials until its made up. Student Support Non existent. The replies have not been very supportive at all - not just my experience. Overall I wish I knew this before I applied because I would have steered clear from the very beginning.
There is no consistency on information Paperwork needs updating on placements regarding on line and face to face. Emails sent and had no reply Spoke to people no return of call or support with query. Paperwork slow still not had some paperwork back regarding placement. 3 months now. Only received last lot of paperwork because I sent a reminder email
I am really enjoying my course and find my tutor very knowledgeable, but did have to wait a long time and sometimes often get no email reply from my tutor until I see them in person. I would like to have more communication, being able to ask a question once in a blue moon. I was meant to have a review last year with my tutor but sadly did not and I do think this is important. I am liking the subject choices for the course and enjoy researching and learning. I think the course should involve more active learning.
Chrysalis courses are a lot more in depth and comprehensive than you'd think. Just because it is not a full time college course does not make it any less thorough. The style of learning suits me, the majority of tutors have been excellent and expand on the learning criteria. Online platforms are good and user friendly. The support team are prompt at answering queries and have been very helpful many times. The only critique I have is that they do not make it mandatory to have personal counselling alongside the course. Whereas this could be a bonus from a financial point of view I feel it is a necessary process to undertake, and I took it upon myself to do so, and it has enhanced the course for me. If you are looking to study counselling, I highly recommend using Chrysalis.
Student support last year was second to none however after systems changing it now takes student support 7 days to get back to you. This is an issue as any responses including a simple yes, no will take seven days. Messages can ping pong over a long period. The second issue is that I made a full payment for the Princes Trust and Chrysalis has misplaced it and requesting for me to pay the amount again. I am unable to prove payment as the amount was completed with a now obsolete bank account.
Student Support us very helpful and I am mindful of the importance of my own input. The tutor is heavily theory based and brings no element of experience or putting the learning into practice. So much information being fired at us makes the session seriously hard, difficult and tiring.
Like every course it is about what you put in will help you with the rewards. The course is well structured though you have to complete each module task before the next section is available to you. The Prince's Trust Awarding body uses a simple Pass/Fail scoring system which I find limiting, having been used to a Pass/Merit/Distinction system which provides a better type of assessment criteria. The course material may seem limited but it should be seen as a launch pad into your own self-directed learning to discover a vast range of material that is available elsewhere. This helps you progress in you own areas of interest within a pluralistic discipline. The third year builds well on what is learnt in the previous two years as you are then equipped with skills to undertake the practical workplace dealing with real clients. The course is very much about self-development and self-awareness which is often missed in an academic focused approach which is driven by research techniques as opposed to hands-on approach Chrysalis provides. The course encourages peer-to-peer learning through WhatsApp to help build upon what is learnt during the class session. You have to be self motivated to do this course which is not about spoon feeding you. You are in charge of what you learn and need to be responsible for what you don't. It really is up to you but if you use all the resources and participate in the online groups you will be richly rewarded educationally.
Tutors are good and knowledgeable. However I've found communication to be unclear and poor from the support team. We've had constantly changing messages around online practice. When we email queries we often don't get a response or wait a long time. I'm half way through year 3 and most of my cohort haven't received our certificates for year 2 yet. This year Chrysalis changed their format to include online classes but hadn't thought about the practicalities. So now for component 5 we're expected to cover two modules in one day at module 6 because the online format is stopping us doing our presentation assignment at module 8 as planned. If I hadn't already got 2.5 years in I would be looking for an alternative course.
The course materials and references are very good and thorough. This is the best element of the course. (9/10) The timeliness of marking has been extremely poor. (2/10). The videos could be a lot better as well. (4/10) Some are stilted and reading simply from the notes - more bringing it to life with examples is needed. Also, there are easier ways to record these so that the presenter has time to think in between slides (use Microsoft power point and record each slide - upload in Vimeo instead). Tutors - hit and miss but 6/10 overall.
The Level 5 Dip in Psychotherapeutic Counselling is a great course. Rhianan (Bristol tutor) is brill. She's very knowledgeable. Classes are informative, supportive, collaborative and fun. Chrysalis are very lucky to have her teaching their course! RECOMMENDED
Took time out of the course due to issues with previous tutor, and then received no support with getting a placement which ultimately led to me quitting despite paying in full at the start and then being ripped off with my refund.
Excellent course, can highly recommend.
I am coming at the end of my 3 years course, and, except the instance when my paperwork for placement got lost, I have received the most helpful assistance from the admin team. I loved the course, I found it fascinating, especially the hypnotherapy part. There was a challenging time during covid, when the practical learning suffered, but the year 3 tutor (Martin), with his incredible expertise and kind manner, inspired me to overcome all the obstacles, to find new depths of passion for the course, and new resources within me. All of us in the class came together like a family and supported one another through the good and the tough times. I cannot thank everyone enough.
I am half way through the first year of a Level 5 Counselling and Psychotherapy Diploma. From enrollment to beginning the course to now, I have been supported all the way. Glynis is our tutor and she has been fantastic, explaining clearly when I need clarification. The work is well set out and if I need support with it I know that there is help. I am thoroughly enjoying the course so far. Another 2 years to go.
Courses are set out appropriately giving you time to learn and practice. The whole concept of hypnotherapy and counselling is amazing and so inspiring. I am glad I took a chance and enrolled on the course. Tutors are helpful, support is there for administrative needs if needed. Pay per month options if you can't afford it in one go. Worth looking into.
I am loving the course. The support and classes are brilliant. Half way through my first year. Excited for the future.
This course is well organised and supportive in terms of tutor feedback, admin and general support. It is designed for working people and is structured quite well in this way. It is also a highly affordable counselling training option. Unfortunately though, in my experience - and I feel generally the class experience - our lasting impression of the course has been limited. The standard of teaching and learning is mixed and although a very nice person, the tutor can be disorganised and subjective in her teaching methods, at times causing some offence with her blanket statements and personal insights. The course is, however, well-structured, supportive and manageable for the working adult/parent and - with the addition of gaining placement knowledge - prepares students well enough for the world of counselling work.
The South students support team is always very responsive and able to help with anything we need. It's been a pleasure to have this team support me throughout the entire program.

However, some critical feedback highlights issues with tutor consistency and communication, leading to confusion among students. A number of individuals express dissatisfaction with the placement support, particularly in Northern Ireland, feeling that it does not justify the financial investment. While many find the courses enriching and recommend the program, others caution potential students about misleading information and management practices.
