I've tried watching three Fassbinder…

I've tried watching several Fassbinder films on IA. On each separate occasion the video's stopped playing midway through and wouldn't start playing again despite refreshing the page, closing and restarting the browser, clearing cache, etc, etc. Pretty annoying to be left hanging an hour or more into a film. My network is 3-5mbps. I realize that IA is free, but do expect the likely possibility that you might waste a fair amount of time trying to wrangle a video with Internet Archive. The 'please donate' window to help keep us going is insulting. If the site worked as it should one might be more inclined to help out monetarily. As it stands, I've spent my time – which is quite valuable to me, trying to figure get a video to resume playing. In another world IA would owe me money.

There's so much to discover!

The Internet Archive has made material that was once almost impossible to find available to everyone. It's a bit tricky to get the hang of it, but really rewards a thorough exploration.

Great website for downloading roms and such

It's a wonderful website for old games that you can't get normally anymore. Sure they do pirate some things like E-Books but that's a small part of it.

Pirating page. They steal your stuff and make it extra hard for you to get it removed. This should be illegal. Or is it illegal ?

I needed to install an old version of PaintShop Pro 7

I needed to install an old version of PaintShop Pro 7 - whose disks I cannot find (even though I found the book and sleeve for the CD/DVDs). On a whim, I tried to search online and got lucky to find it here. The download worked perfectly and the application is exactly as I remembered. I COULD NOT be happier. I can't give this site enough positives.

Internet Archive is the Greatest Site on the Interwebs.

So i have used this site for a few years. For uploading, downloading (occasionally), and reading (also occasionally.) I will break it into five ratings followed by the reasons. Uploading: 4.0 I have uploaded a lot these past years... you may have come across one of my hundreds of albums... if you are looking for music. (a lot of my downloads are 1-10gb.) I just upload before bed, as i have gotten accustomed to their slower speeds. The deduction is due to the five to ten minute wait before all the files have populated. GUI: 3.0 I don't rate it so low from it being outdated... that is the only redeemable feature. It's also tedious on the phone or tablet as you have to turn on the tablet and go to the website to continue to the next song or piece. Also it is a hit or miss when trying to download archived music... as most i come across are samples, and difficult to download... unsure why?(edited this paragraph and review... as they have fixed this in the last month...) So pretty much a lot of this is based on the inaccessability of using the various files on the site. Which leads to User Experience. UE: 1.0 This is probably the most absurd thing. (this is kinda paired with GUI, but for different reasons.) It took me a year to learn what everything does... and with a lot of study. You can easily delete your files, (which i do often.) by... 1. clicking "remove items..." on the top right of the page in the blue. 2. check the item you want to delete. 3. click the red box "remove selected items" 4. refresh the page. (now it takes about 2-5 minutes before the file is completely removed.) Support and Troubleshooting: 5.0 The one time i requested help. (which was for deleting my own files.) We had a few back and forths, and learned i could upload upto 10GB in one upload and various other qualities. i cannot say what other's experiences are with their support... it may be how you worded your email... your review indicates you came at them aggressively. Who would help an aggressive person? Overall: 3.5 I love this site, it has given me a depression free alternative of uploading my 30 albums per year with out having to deal with the "in your face" approach of telling you how many people viewed your page, downloaded your files, how long they've paid attention... sheesh humans have lost the ability to enjoy good music. Thanks to the popular sites that force you to pay hundreds just so you can have bots padding those numbers... on the other side, why would i have concerns of privacy, when i have spent many years trying to get my music known? Archive is a godsend. It gives musicians, composers, etc... a place to just upload our music, and just let it sit until it is discovered by a random person, and that random person is transported into another world... the world the composer introduces you to... wait i got sidetracked ... second time this review. Internet Archive is by far the best website i have experienced... though there are a few things i would love to see improved in the next few years. 1. Music player on browsers like my own. 2. have every music file accessable and easy to download... (it would be horrible, if i found out my music, which is Creative Commons... becomes super difficult to obtain.) 3. Manditory tags when uploading are annoying. 4. (if it is not already there...) an option to recieve notifications on comments. i may not have enough incoming comments to know the amount of notifications... 5. a following option. (paired with the notifications, mainly for uploads.) ...if this exists already... make things easier to find. XD Thank You Eris: The Weird Reclusive Genius

Great Product and Download. No complaints for a FREE service...

The download was not instant or lightening fast like society has accustomed us to. It is a large file and with a realistic view of a free product it was great. Every negative view I have seen is related to download speed. You will need to understand this is a free service and that may come at a slight cost, in this case the minimal download time. If you have a need to instant gratification I would recommend purchasing, with your own money, a paid Microsoft Office version that offers a faster download speed.

Have given up trying to download pdfs

The info on how to access and especially download books is useless and, as usual with all IT-related matters, assumes knowledge the general public does not have. I cannot download pdfs as they come up as an .acsm file which my Adobe says it cannot open, I've given up and am going to delete my membership if can. I find it demoralising that so many resources are devoted to accumulating this knowledge and so little thought is given to would-be users.

Hypocritical Company

They claim to be non-profit. Why are they having the ability for users to donate money, then? So much for non-profit when money is being made regardless. They claim their goal is "universal access to all knowledge". Why are they doing copyright strikes on accounts uploading content illegally, then? So much for access to all knowledge when illegal content gets removed. They claim to be open-source. Why are they making it hard to access books and videos, then? So much for open-source. All of these things and their lack of letting users delete their own media are why I am not supporting Internet Archive anymore. It used to be better when users were allowed to delete their own media. But now, it's become a hypocritical company with lies and giving users less power to control their uploads. I would not recommend this site to pirates, journalists exposing government documents illegally, and people wanting full power over their uploads. Internet Archive's administrators are deleting uploads that expose corrupt governments without uploaders' permission. So, Internet Archive is not a safe haven for journalists who expose war crimes billionaires cause for the New World Order. Which is why journalists are having to use the dark web for uploading their content that exposes war crimes. At least Internet Archive does not have C.P. But saying their goal is access to all knowledge is a lie. Otherwise, uploaders would be allowed to upload C.P. Which would be disgusting.

Some years ago I would have given…

Some years ago I would have given Archive.org 4 or even 5 stars, but at this time I can't even recommend it anymore. Even if one is lucky enough to find this site under an occasional victorious uptime, one won't be able to continue working as it will go down within minutes or even seconds and stay down for a long time coming up for a minute or two and before you finish entering one single URL into the Wayback Machine, it will be down again. What is the most upsetting that I have donated money to the WB Internet Archive and the owner of the Archive.org wrote that I was one of the few who was donating money to WB. I donated for the god job it was doing, with a rare occasional downtime, it was still reasonable to use it. Not anymore. When WB went into almost continuous downtime for days and weeks etc. I stopped donating. The money request pop ups also stopped lately. Perhaps because they are in trouble or are shutting down its operation? Perhaps they are unable to finance their operation anymore or perhaps the almost continuous downtime is even allegedly intentional (though unlikely), especially to those who did not donate "enough", I don't know. But as it seems Archive.org is probably going down and will probably close ts doors soon. I hope I am wrong. If WB is unable to finance their operation anymore they should make it a paid service for a small monthly fee such as $1 to $3 a month so that everyone can afford it. Otherwise it's such a waste of time and resources to have an Archive that is unusable anymore. I need to record my URLs and docs somewhere and I will not be coming back to or relying on Archive.org Wayback Machine anymore. We need to find a serious alternative to Archive.org or the so-called globalists have to create one from UN funds or something like that, cause it is a very important service. Two stars (instead of one) because it was useful in the past.

Revised opinion

They have a lot of content. A serious amount of free content. I have revised my review because their service is really good. Previously I had a problem with slow speed of the site. Sometimes that still happens, but the wealth of content and the quality of service more than make up for it. Please keep up the good work and continue to improve.
