So i have used this site for a few years. For uploading, downloading (occasionally), and reading (also occasionally.)
I will break it into five ratings followed by the reasons.
Uploading: 4.0
I have uploaded a lot these past years... you may have come across one of my hundreds of albums... if you are looking for music. (a lot of my downloads are 1-10gb.) I just upload before bed, as i have gotten accustomed to their slower speeds. The deduction is due to the five to ten minute wait before all the files have populated.
GUI: 3.0
I don't rate it so low from it being outdated... that is the only redeemable feature.
It's also tedious on the phone or tablet as you have to turn on the tablet and go to the website to continue to the next song or piece.
Also it is a hit or miss when trying to download archived music... as most i come across are samples, and difficult to download... unsure why?(edited this paragraph and review... as they have fixed this in the last month...)
So pretty much a lot of this is based on the inaccessability of using the various files on the site. Which leads to User Experience.
UE: 1.0
This is probably the most absurd thing. (this is kinda paired with GUI, but for different reasons.) It took me a year to learn what everything does... and with a lot of study. You can easily delete your files, (which i do often.) by...
1. clicking "remove items..." on the top right of the page in the blue.
2. check the item you want to delete.
3. click the red box "remove selected items"
4. refresh the page. (now it takes about 2-5 minutes before the file is completely removed.)
Support and Troubleshooting: 5.0
The one time i requested help. (which was for deleting my own files.) We had a few back and forths, and learned i could upload upto 10GB in one upload and various other qualities. i cannot say what other's experiences are with their support... it may be how you worded your email... your review indicates you came at them aggressively. Who would help an aggressive person?
Overall: 3.5
I love this site, it has given me a depression free alternative of uploading my 30 albums per year with out having to deal with the "in your face" approach of telling you how many people viewed your page, downloaded your files, how long they've paid attention...
sheesh humans have lost the ability to enjoy good music. Thanks to the popular sites that force you to pay hundreds just so you can have bots padding those numbers... on the other side, why would i have concerns of privacy, when i have spent many years trying to get my music known? Archive is a godsend. It gives musicians, composers, etc... a place to just upload our music, and just let it sit until it is discovered by a random person, and that random person is transported into another world... the world the composer introduces you to... wait i got sidetracked ... second time this review.
Internet Archive is by far the best website i have experienced... though there are a few things i would love to see improved in the next few years.
1. Music player on browsers like my own.
2. have every music file accessable and easy to download... (it would be horrible, if i found out my music, which is Creative Commons... becomes super difficult to obtain.)
3. Manditory tags when uploading are annoying.
4. (if it is not already there...) an option to recieve notifications on comments. i may not have enough incoming comments to know the amount of notifications...
5. a following option. (paired with the notifications, mainly for uploads.) ...if this exists already... make things easier to find. XD
Thank You
