Bald tire, which failed
We rented a car. The one they gave us made scary clunking noises, and had three good tires...and one completely bald one. It failed on the road--simply worn through. Fortunately, nobody got hurt. The car didn't have a spare, just a puncture kit, which was useless. We called them--their response was "you're on your own". We returned the car early, afraid for other unknown safety issues. They refused to credit us for the unused time, and were generally utterly unhelpful. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Probable scam. £2000 fine for damage I didn’t cause.
We only hired the car for less than 24 hours. On returning it, we were charged £2000 for a chip in the windscreen which I guarantee didn’t happen while we were driving it (I believe it was already there when we got the car, but we never noticed it). Luckily we have insurance which is covering it, but how can you tell me it’s not a scam. They’ll probably charge everyone else who takes that car the £2000 fine as well.
Do not use this company
want to firstly say, I never write bad reviews so the fact that I’ve been pushed to this says a lot. I cannot emphasize this enough, please DO NOT use this company. I rented a vehicle from them in April/May 2023 for about 11 days. Due to inclement weather we had to get our car towed out of the mud (only about 7 feet, it took all of 2 minutes). The vehicle we were given did not come with any place for the tower to hook onto, so they had to hook onto the undercarriage which resulted in the car not being drive able a day later. We were given a replacement vehicle for the remainder of our trip which turned out fine. When we get back to the rental agency, we were told that we owed over $16,000 USD because the car was totaled. They literally gave us a sheet of paper that had a handwritten statement that they were demanding this amount for “loss of use, parts, and administrative fee.” Never once was I given a list of what was actually wrong with the car and I am 100% positive they did not even look to see what was actually wrong, as the car had not moved from its location after being brought back by the tower. I had gotten my rental through Chase and had insurance through them and I was assured by the rental agency’s manager that I would be directly reimbursed by Chase and should just pay what I could with them immediately. This is where I should have declined but I didn’t and ended up giving them about $6,000 before leaving that day. They told me they would not give me any documentation on what was wrong with the vehicle until I paid the total 16 thousand. I was then getting pestered by them for the remainder of the money the following weeks. I was informed by my insurance to not engage unless they provided the documentation. Then the rental agency literally STOLE over $7,000 from me after I explicitly did not consent to them charging me again without a bill saying what was actually wrong with the vehicle. All of this is absolutely crazy, I am still out over $13,000 and have been working with insurance for 4.5 months to get in touch with the rental agency for my bill. But why would they even respond? They’ve gotten $13,000 from me!! I know this is a long story, but I hope this keeps people from going to this company. Use a bigger name brand and definitely get insurance.
Worst rental company I used so far
staff was not responsive and friendly comparing to the rest of the people in Iceland and their hospitality. But given them the benefit of doubts, maybe it was due to the language barrier. They will show you a video when you arrive explaining everything about the rental experience. Pay close attention especially the drop off process! I almost miss my flight even I arrived at their drop off location 2.5 hrs prior my flight, and the drop off location is only 10 mins from the airport. The video they show you said arrive their drop off location 3 hrs prior your flight because they are “busy”…… Please take that advice and even make it 3.5 hr prior your flight because they are very understaffed. They only had one staff for airport transport and rental paper works for my case. Imagine even you arrive their drop off location 3 hr prior, the staff has to go to the airport to pick up a few groups of new rental, show the groups their video, finish all their paper works, and then he will finally drive you to the airport, I’m quite certain you will miss your flight unless KEF is not busy at all. I ended up paying 3500 ISK for taxi to get to KEF so that I don’t miss my flight. I will not use FARA again or any other local understaff rental company. I would rather use a well staffed chain rental company or rental companies that are actually at the airport.
