Great Experience!
Had a Kia Carnival for 2 weeks. Customer service was great, car was great, new and really spacious so made our trip so much easier! Thanks Team at Auckland Airport office!

Ezi Car Rental receives a mixed reception from customers, with a significant number expressing dissatisfaction. While some reviewers praise the service quality and the condition of the vehicles, noting friendly and helpful staff, many others report serious issues. Common complaints include unexpected charges, particularly related to credit card overcharges and hidden fees, leading to feelings of being extorted. Customers also mention long wait times for vehicle pickup and inadequate support from staff during the rental process. Despite a few positive experiences highlighting great service, the overwhelming sentiment reflects frustration and distrust, particularly regarding billing practices. Overall, the majority of reviews indicate a negative experience with Ezi Car Rental.

Ezi Car Rentals Auckland Airport I would give them a minus five stars if I could. Absolutely inept with zero care factor.

The team at Ezi Car Rentals in Queenstown was exceptional and exceeded expectations. The car was perfect, and the car seat we hired for our grandson made our trip so much easier. We will use their service again, and the biggest thank you to the team at Ezi Car Rental Queenstown.
Bit disappointing - Booked a car at a good price in NZ. Looking back now it was likely an error with the listing. Turns out the car was not available which is fine but the booking was simply cancelled with no communication. We only found out as I had screen-shotted the booking # and looked it up when I didn't receive a confirmation email. Luckily have time to book another rental.
The desk staff on collection and drop off at Christchurch airport were both v helpful, efficient, friendly and didn’t try to push extras (unlike other companies). The car was brand new and nice to drive. The whole process was easy and they charged a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend Ezicar.
Jude at Ezi car is a legend. Went above and beyond to help us out after confusion over insurance cover. Needs a raise.
I was a bit apprehensive using Ezi Car from some poor reviews, but I found them excellent. I picked up at Palmerston North airport and dropped off at Auckland Airport. The staff were lovely and helpful. The vehicle was excellent. I will definitely be using them in the future.
It is when things don't go as planned that you find our how a company looks after customers, my experience is that Annabelle at Ezi customer support and the team at Queensland desk have been awesome. My daughter was hiking near Kinloch Retreat, on her return she found that the only road in or out had collapsed. Having no accommodation and little food she had to leave to make her way back to Queenstown, leaving the rental car behind. As the road is likely to stay closed for some time we wondered what the implications might be, Ezi have been reassuring and so helpful. They agreed to deal with recovery of the car when the road opens at no additional cost and with no fuss, they have simply asked my daughter to return the car key to the Queenstown rental desk and offered to arrange a substitute car for the remainder of my daughters time in NZ. They have made what could have been a difficult situation very straight forward , we know this hasn't been the case will some folk renting from other companies. Big thanks to the Ezi team.
Just the best. From the customer service to the price. Will defs be recommending to family and friends. Will be sure to rent again. Bond was returned within 48hrs. I've dealt with other companies who took a percentage of the bond as a transaction fee. Not sure how that works but never been more happier with the service. Thank you ezi rental, keep up the great work. We appreciate you all.
EZI CAR RENTALS I would NOT recommend EZI Car Rentals very poor service. I would to zero stars they are lucky to 1 star if zero was a option EZI car rentals would receive especially when we had to wait 2 to 3 hours at Auckland Air Port all because my wife who booked the rental did not have her name on the card there online affiliate at EZI rentals cars that handles there online transactions will not refund a charge $134.00 deposit completed online and will not refund So here we are giving a negative review for lack of service or should I say NO service it was ok for EZI car rentals to take my wife payment online with no name on card but not at the desk at Auckland Air Port we could not by any other means but by credit card with a name on it is that EZI Car Rentals I think not this type of service is no service at EZI car rentals no other option like paying via online the desk at Auckland Air Port could have suggested online as a option but no they turn there heads and ignored us there nearest cash deposit ATM was a $100 return to EZI car rentals. Then we catch charge for late return after we had to wait 3 hours to get a rental we mist all our meeting in Auckland 8 hour drive to Wellington was hard for a 64 year old exhausted when I return fell asleep then I was woken up by a call from EZI car rentals to I was late returning car I said we were late receiving the car who pays for EZI car rentals being giving me the car yeah I am disappointed with EZI car rentals I am going to posting a poor review on Google and 8 of my website to let people know not to deal with EZI car rentals they took $200 from on top of there normal rentals disgraceful service #ezicarrentals 7 June 2025 we are still waiting for our refund
Brilliant experience with EZI Car Rental in New Zealand. I rented for several days in both Auckland and Christchurch. Extremely kind and welcoming staff - like all people in New Zealand. Cars - clean, new, in good condition. I recommend this company to everyone! I recommend New Zealand to everyone!!! Arturas from Lithuania.
Hi, I am feeling very disappointed and dismissed by the staff and a general manager from Ezi Car Rentals. We hired a car for our first time trip to New Zealand from Ezi Rentals over the duration of 10 days. We picked up the car in the early evening and started our trip to our first stop which was roughly 2 1/2 hours away. The inbuilt GPS, maps, CarPlay, Bluetooth, radio and reversing camera were not consistently working. I phoned three days into our trip hoping to get a solution on how to get at least CarPlay to work so I could use the maps from my phone but have the directions go through the car stereo. Despite telling the customer service officer that we have tried three separate phones with three separate cords, on multiple occasions over the past three days, her only solution was to turn the phone on and off. This of course did not work. Upon returning the car I gave basic feedback to staff and said I would be in touch via email when I was home. Once arrived home I reached out via email explaining all of the issues which I was told they would forward the feedback onto the airport rental staff. I then followed up via the online chat to express my disappointment again as I wanted to chat to someone in further depths about this. I was told a team leader would get back to me soon. A team leader got back to me and offered me a two day refund for the inconveniences. I explained that I was not happy with this considering the circumstances and how difficult it made our trip navigating our way around New Zealand with two young children. A day later, I had to follow up again where I was told the general manager would get back to me. The general manager, emailed me apologised for the inconvenience and said that two days was reasonable considering the circumstances but if I wanted to chat further about this to please give him a call. I proceeded to give him a call which the lines were dead and incorrect phone numbers I sent him an email immediately asked him to provide me with the correct number or to please give me a call and provided my mobile number. He emailed me back immediately and said that he was in meetings all morning and that he would phone me in the afternoon. Seven days later, I am still waiting on a call. We were travelling in a group. There was a total of five cars hired, four of the five were hired through Ezi. All of the other cars through Ezi had no other issues. It was just our car. This is why I believe it is absolutely unreasonable to be offered only a two day refund out of our 10 day car hire. This made our trip extremely difficult to navigate our way around a new country we had never been to relying on maps and a GPS. There was no radio or music to entertain our two young children on our drive. The reversing camera did not consistently work, which was another inconvenience. I would not recommend Ezi if you are needing to navigate your way around New Zealand and hoping to be able to use every day car features like Bluetooth, GPS, a reversing camera, a radio, CarPlay, maps. It put a massive dampener on our trip.
Strap in for this one folks I rented a car with Ezi Queenstown for a period of two weeks in June. During the first few days of our trip, I had a rock flick up from a passing vehicle and hit the windscreen, ultimately cracking it. Upon return of the vehicle to Ezi Dunedin, (that was our closest location at the time) I was assured by the team member there that Ezi would cover the cost of the windscreen replacement, as it was an accident. I was able to leave the premises without paying anything, I was put in to a new car and I was on my merry way. Fast forward two months, I receive a 'final demand' notice in my junk email inbox denoting a demand for $1587 for the windscreen replacement I was told would be covered by Ezi's insurance policy. I wrote back and spoke with their finance controller, Dinesh Chand, who contacted the branch manager. Dinesh wrote back to me and simply stated "The branch manager has said that they do not give such advice to their customers." and included an invoice from their repairer (which I had also requested in my previous email to him) If you're following along logically, of course the branch manager is going to say that because they're trying to recover money. Further, the invoice I mentioned from the repairer was for a total cost of $1,207, not $1587 that they were trying to charge me. Querying that, they graciously brought the invoice down to the correct amount - the amount they were charged for the repair. This was 'thrown in' as a bone... Ultimately Dinesh and the branch manager refused that the interaction I had with the team member occurred, and insisted that I pay for the damaged windscreen despite their insurance having already paid for it. Again, this is despite me being able to leave the premises without having paid anything, and being put in to a new car for the remainder of my stay in NZ. I don't have a problem paying for such things, however as a good faith customer I would have expected those payments to be brought to my attention at the right time, and not through a final demand notice. Further, if those costs were covered by the businesses insurance (as they have been) then I would expect Ezi to not pass those on to the customer, which they have in this case. The combination of asking for an amount in significant excess of what the repair actually cost them, as well as refusing to honour what their team member outlined to me and the vigorous pursuit of $1,200 despite their insurance policy covering the vehicle repair has left an extremely sour taste in my mouth. I recommend everyone look at literally any other option for vehicle rentals in New Zealand.
Team, yesterday I booked Ezi Drive. Within 5 mins, I cancelled the drive. Then someone from your office called, I told them I had cancelled, had a change in plans. Then they keep calling me while I'm in a temple. Why are you disturbing people if you have an app that does not work properly. Then you send your driver also, he calls. What a nuisance! SOLVE THE PROBLEM, DON'T DISTURB YOUR CUSTOMERS. MORE THAN ANYTHING HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND DO SOME DEEP DIVE INTO THE ISSUES. Improvise your app, set it right, cancel does not work on your app. You don't seem to get those cancel messages. This means you should go ahead and improve the app. Please stop blaming other people for your challenges. Solve the basic problem first. Then I noticed you guys went ahead and cancelled me out from the app. What nuisance is this? Don't you understand that this is your mistake?
Ezi Car refused to give me my prepaid vehicle due to not having a physical credit card. They accepted my digital credit card for booking but refused to accept it for the pickup. I followed their instruction for the car pickup including bringing my original credit card under my name but they did not mention in the instructions that it must be a physical card only for the pickup. Their poor and incomplete instructions left me stranded in a foreign country with many bags and snowboard gear. They did not compromise at the pickup counter by being willing to accept another credit card or even cash. They were also not willing to accept another additional digital payment perhaps for further bond for the car. However, they were willing to accept my digital driver’s license to identify me for the booking - How double standard is that? Ezi Car was not Ezy at all. A criminal act hiding behind a play on words. Funny enough, I took 2 steps to the side and their competitor rented me a car with my digital credit card within minutes. Thank you Europcar! Be careful who you choose - Cheap budget trash will always cost you more in the end.
Ezi Car Rental in Auckland made it an easy process for me to pick up and return my car for my international trip. As the name of the company implies they did live up to an Easy process. Thank you kindly and would definitely be using this company again.
Thankyou to the crew at Wellington airport for helping my wife and I out at such short notice. We appreciated how you guys went above and beyond to ensure we got a vehicle. We will be hiring from you guys again very soon. Thankyou
Rented vehicle on March 9th 2024 from outlet in Greymouth Train Station NZ Rental agreement GR501054 The staff member who attended to us was exceptional she was went far and above anything we have previously encountered if her details are available please pass on our belated but genuine thanks for all her help Catherine
Avoid!! Dodgy business, with extremely unprofessional staff. Did not refund the deposit until you contacted them multiple times and tell them you will take legal action. Charged your card suddenly a month after you returned your car.
Minimum wage, dishonest management, total disregard for health and safety, no quality control, no accountability and blame culture by management to hide their own shortcomings. Great coworkers and lower level management who literally carry their bosses. Might change when new owners Toyota Finance complete takeover. For now everything is ad hoc .
A trip we were looking forward to so much. My husband and father in law arrived into QT a day before us and so decided to pick the car a day earlier (8th April), even though the car rental booking was from 9th to 12th April. As they had the car available, my husband decided to take it earlier to avoid any delays when we were to arrive on 9th April. On 9th April, my kids and my cousin and I flew to QT, however with 2 unsuccessful attempts by the pilot to land, he decided it was safer to fly back to Auckland. A lot of other flights were cancelled, delayed and turned around that day due to the weather. On 9th April- check news on NZ Herald The great thing was we got full refunds from the airlines, the Car parking services at Auckland Airport and the hotel my husband checked out off 2 days earlier as well, due to the change in circumstances, knowing & understanding he couldn't stay in QT, without us being there with him on holiday. Unfortunately, the very tight rental car contract that Ezi car rentals follows, they were not willing to give us a refund for the 2 days we didn't use the car. They were not willing to even negotiate at any cost giving us the reason that their business would be jeopardized. I understand that and we would have at least appreciated coming to mutual grounds for deducting 1 day and refunding 1 day back to us, given it was nature preventing us from having our holiday. Very very disappointing for the kids and us overall not to have our holiday, but even more disappointing to know that EZI Car rentals will not budge or negotiate at all even if it isn't your fault. Unfortunately the Team leader in customer service is trained to just do her job and it is sad that she left me feeling even more upset during these times when things are difficult not just for a company, but also for families- and in our case not having the holiday at all and a loss of more than $300 overall.
