2nd year tutor has been incredible

Sandra our tutor for year 2 has been so supportive and helpful and brings passion and knowledge in abundance. She shares so much and her feedback is thorough and thoughtful and so helpful. She's been amazing and I'm excited to continue the second half of the year and progress onto year three. Thank you so much to the staff behind the scenes and placements team too for always being ready to answer queries and help where they can.

Chrysalis/tutor

I have been with chrysalis for 2.5 yrs, my 1st year was enjoyable, with a great tutor, my 2nd year not so much, however, on year 3 1st session in January, my current tutor gave me structure, with slideshows & video clips to explain in more depth and giving examples of the different topics, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 5 modules as I am a visual learner, the guidance given is great by Sarah Jones and she is a real fit for our group, I am looking forward to the rest of my final year with Chrysalis

Great experience!

I have had a great experience training with Chrysalis. The pluralistic content of the course has been very interesting and I believe has put me in good stead for my future as a counsellor. Most beneficial to my experience though is my tutor, Martina. Martina is incredibly knowledgeable, always puts us at ease, fills us with confidence and gives valuable feedback.

Chrysalis Student Support Team

Studying remotely can be challenging, however it is made much easier when you have an excellent student support team. I would like to give HUGE thank you to the whole team, especially Sophia who has supported and advised me through the last year. I am looking forward to another year, and confident that I have the support I need to continue my journey.

Great Student Support

I had struggled to keep up with my studies due to other personal commitments. Chrysalis' student support services have been superb at arranging my deferral and, when I asked to return to a different venue, they had me enrolled and set up ready to go again in no time at all. I now can't wait to start my studies again, knowing what a great support system is in place.

Level 3 - 5 Integrative Counselling Training

As a contractor, I could never guarantee where I would be working from week to week or what hours, so the thought of investing a considerable amount of money into an evening class worried me. I also often saw courses getting pulled from the curriculum of my local colleges if they did not have enough people subscribe so 1 level may be available but the next would not be. Chrysalis, however, provide their training on weekends. Instead of a weekly commitment of an evening class, this could be consolidated down into a single day once a month. As their training takes you through from level 3 all the way up to the completion of level 5 I could be confident that I wouldn't need to be looking for an alternative provider or dealing with last-minute cancellations due to low course numbers. The course is integrative, which means that it looks at many different therapeutic models which I love. At the start of my journey in retraining to be a counsellor, I did not know what approach I would feel best suited to. However, by learning about several different models, I can now work in a way that is best suited to my clients which can prevent them from feeling "stuck". This does require a lot of hard work outside of classes through further reading and self-development but allows you to focus your efforts on areas that you want to specialise in if you so wish. My fellow peers on the course are very supportive. It is a long and hard journey and you will have wobbles of confidence or time constraints along the way. However, the friends I have made on the course have been amazing at keeping my spirits high and just keeping going. We have shared lots of resources within the group for useful reading, podcasts, courses, TV and film. As for the tutor, Leigh, we couldn't have asked for better. She takes the time to write detailed feedback against every piece of work submitted so you know your areas of strength and weaknesses. She regularly observes practical work in class and in a way that we don't feel intimidated by. Again offering feedback each time. She facilitates lots of healthy debates and discussions, making sure everyone has the opportunity to have their say. And I have learned so much from her knowledge and experience in the field.

Mixed experience of class work

This review focuses on my experience the year 1 classes so far. Below there are three things I found helpful, two not-so-helpful and one that could be addressed over the longer term. The class practical exercises are helpful and well thought-through. There is a paced flow to the classes and a beneficial approach to student care and breaks. The class leader is very willing to discuss subjects and share experience and knowledge. It would be helpful if, before practical exercises start, the tutor could check students' understanding of what is required in the exercises. Also, it is important to the students that a technique to recall students' names is used. At times during the class it appears that the class leader is not fully aware of the pre-class information that students are expected to view. To show this awareness would help to increase students' confidence.
