Horrible experience. The cars are old, all secondhand import from China. They have high kilometers, and the dashboard and interface are all in Chinese. So when there is an error or warning, you need to speak Chinese or hire a translator, I guess. The first car we got had starting problems. We found out 2 hours after pickup, when we tried to start the car for the first time after pickup. The first response of Mint Car Rentals was that we should just contact road assistance. Only after much protest from us did they send a mechanic. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem. Even though the mechanic said the car is fine and got it started with jumpcables, they problems remained. After 2 more times of not being able to start it (and our takeaway food getting cold because we were stuck in a parkinglot) they finally agreed to give us a different car. But instead of bringing the car to us, we had to drive over 1 hour back to the rental office to pick it up. Instead of an apology for all the inconvenience, the employee told us that we should have actually filled up the gas before exchanging the car. The second car was also old and Chinese. It had one door that didn't lock (we found out by chance, after 3 days), the steering wheel was not aligned, and the tires were completely worn down. Luckily, this one didn't break down during our trip. Update 12th of april 2025 After posting this review here and on Google, we received an email from Mint Car Rentals. In the email, they apologised for the lack of service and offered us a 20% refund of the hire charges, which we accepted.

Great customer services and unbeatable price. The vehicles or yard are nor the most modern but are perfect for what you need. Missed the van and they offered to use one of their vehicles to drop us at the airport. Highly recommend.

Cant say enough good things about this company. Mint rentals was so easy to deal with and the staff were super friendly. Upgraded to a bigger car free of charge. Ron the manager personally dropped me off at the airport so I didn't have to wait for the shuttle. I got to check in and couldn't find my passport. I rung mint rentals and it had fell out of my bag under the seat. Ron dropped it off to me and literally saved the day so I could catch my flight. I owe him! Will be back in future highly recommended!

Had a great recent experience with Mint team. Very clear instructions for Auckland international airport pickup and shuttle to their office which was 5 mins drive. Booked an Aqua hybrid hatch for a few days. Will book again .

Old car, long waiting time to pick up from the airport, extra fee because I dropped the car off outside business hours. Which car rental company closes at 4 p.m.!? I offered to return the car before 4 p.m., but that wasn't possible either.

It started out well when I first rented my car from Mint Rentals for my week and a half stay in New Zealand. They were prompt, affordable, and friendly. During normal operation of the vehicle one of the hoses blew out in the car. Mind you this car was driven normally, on normal roads, and without anything that would be considered "poor driving." It sucked and something I would say is predictable. I am not sure what type of maintenance is done but this is something you'd not expect from a rental company. Anyways, this is where my problems with the company start. So we were stranded on the highway on our way back to Auckland. I used their handout provided in the car exactly as described. Basically it says if you call out AA and the issue is unable to be fixed you will not be charged for the tow. First, the number would not connect and did disconnect at times (not their fault for bad reception). We had a local stop and let us borrow his phone which held reception. Even with good reception the number would ring and ring. Finally we were able to get through and get AA out to the car. The mechanic came out and looked at the car and said it was inoperable, would call a tow truck, and told we're supposed to get a hotel. The cost to get the tow truck out there was $115 USD. Then we had to find a place to stay for the night which was another $176 USD. We were told to get a bus ticket back to Auckland which we did totaling $43 USD. We paid transportation to the bus site and then from Auckland to our place we rented which totaled about $100 USD more. Once we got to our place we sought another car rental from them for the rest of our stay which they said they were unable to provide. Well that set off another sequence of events leading to a missed time to enjoy our trip, missed flight, and more additional costs which all I can say is Murphy's Law in action. Not only did we lose out of two extra days we paid for on our rental that we paid for full coverage for we our precious time problem solving how to get back home. When I asked for reimbursement I thought they would at least cover the bus ticket, tow, lost time on the rental, and to get things squared away quickly. It required me to hound them and when they finally reimbursed me it was only 100 USD. I can't recommend them after this experience and feel pretty cheated. I think the worst part about it is when it started it felt like a company that cared about their customer and would ensure things like this would be quickly resolved.

My flight got delayed and I had no source of contact. In the end Anthony got me to my hire car, so I could enjoy my holiday. Appreciate it, cheers 10/10

The car was in a very good condition, and staff at the reception was very nice.

I'm impressed with the service they provide I picked up the car on Saturday and on my home I call in to see my auntie and when I hop in the car to home it won't start contact the owner and within 10 minutes he was there with another vehicle to swap with the one I had. That was awesome service vehicle wise and price as well and I would like to recommend them to anyone fantastic service great experience for myself...

Mint provide a no frills but reliable rental car option at a very fair rate. Great customer service also.
