Instagram: A Platform of Hypocrisy and Corporate Censorship
Some argue:
"Instagram is a private company. 'Censorship' only applies to the government. Since Instagram is private, they can ban or silence whoever they want. If you don't like it, you're free to leave."
But this reasoning is so wrong and so dangerous. Censorship isn't exclusive to governments. It's the suppression of ideas, speech, or expression—no matter who does it. When platforms like Instagram silence users based on ideology or external pressure, that’s censorship in its most dangerous form.
Hiding behind the “private company” excuse doesn’t make it any less authoritarian. When corporations like Instagram dominate the public discourse and suppress dissent, it’s no different from government censorship. They cooperate with authoritarian governments and follow their lead, limiting our voices based on their agendas.
The worst kind of censorship is here.
Instagram is suffocating, a place where any criticism is swiftly removed. It’s a space that claims to support "freedom of expression," yet does the exact opposite. This platform, while claiming to be open, actually shuts down voices that don’t fit its approved narrative. It’s the ultimate hypocrisy.
It’s not just ironic—it's Orwellian. Instagram has become a tool for corporate and governmental control, suppressing the voices of dissent.
This isn't freedom; it's digital tyranny.
Instagram goes even further by actively cooperating with authoritarian regimes. It responds to takedown requests and "reports" from governments that have no respect for human rights, democracy, or freedom of speech. Voices that challenge these regimes—activists, journalists, and ordinary users—are shadowbanned, removed, or silenced without explanation.
This is the most dangerous kind of censorship: one that is global, politically targeted, and algorithmically enforced. Instagram doesn’t just restrict what people say—it decides who is allowed to be seen at all. Entire movements are erased, protests are hidden, and truth is buried under the guise of “community guidelines.”
When private corporations align themselves with dictatorships, the result is a digital dictatorship
