Review summary

Hospiten receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from customers, with many expressing serious concerns about the quality of care and staff attitudes. Reviewers frequently describe the hospital as poorly organized, with long wait times and unhelpful staff. Complaints about rude telephone assistance and a lack of empathy from medical personnel are common, leading to a frustrating experience for patients. While a few positive comments highlight specific doctors, such as Dra. Yadhia Duran and Dr. Hierro, who provided reassuring care, these instances are overshadowed by the overall dissatisfaction. Many consumers feel that the hospital operates more like a scam than a legitimate healthcare provider, particularly in tourist areas. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, reflecting a significant need for improvement in service and patient care at Hospiten.

Hospiten Riviera Maya

Our experience at Hospiten Riviera Maya following a serious spinal injury was deeply concerning. After a traumatic accident, a CT scan confirmed a lumbar vertebral fracture involving the posterior wall and partial compromise of the spinal canal. Surgery was initially recommended by the attending orthopaedic surgeon. However, once it became clear that insurance would not cover the treatment, the clinical plan changed abruptly and surgery was no longer considered necessary. No new imaging or clear clinical justification was provided for this change. Pain management was also delayed until additional financial payment was made, despite severe pain and a confirmed spinal injury. Adequate analgesia was only provided after a substantial deposit was transferred. During the inpatient stay, basic nursing care appeared to be largely absent. As I was unable to sit or mobilise independently, received no assisted mobilisation, no hygiene support for several days, and no structured monitoring. Care was effectively provided by a non-medical companion under remote guidance from medically trained family members. That companion remained at the hospital continuously, as it was not safe to leave me unattended. However, as she was not admitted as a patient, she was not provided with food. The hospital cafeteria was frequently closed, and due to unfamiliarity with the area and safety concerns, she did not feel able to leave the hospital alone. When she asked staff about food options, no practical support was offered, even when we explicitly stated we were willing to pay or have the cost added to my bill. On one occasion, she was advised to go outside the hospital and ask a passer-by for help in obtaining food. This response was both inappropriate and concerning. Further concerns included delayed thrombosis prevention measures and lack of proper instruction regarding spinal support equipment. Despite submitting a formal complaint, a follow-up, and a final notice, no response has been received from the hospital. We would have strongly preferred a professional and constructive resolution. Unfortunately, the lack of engagement has left me with no alternative but to share this experience. I hope the hospital will review its practices to ensure patient safety, ethical standards, and basic care are consistently upheld. I remain open to direct contact from Hospiten Group to resolve this matter.

I recently had the displeasure of being admitted to Hospiten Montego Bay Jamaica

I recently had the displeasure of being treated in this hospital! I went in on a Thursday for nausea, thought feeling better and left against medical advice. Tues. we were leaving and I got very sick in airport, was transported to hospital by ambulance. Was admitted and had several tests X-ray, ct scan lots of blood tests. Dr. was going to scope me didn’t eat all day and he never showed up! So we said we were leaving. They were not happy! Barbara and Dr. said we were not being held captive, meanwhile Barbara took my phone and wrote her own review for me. We get to airport and we were told need a safe to fly paper, went back to hospital NO ONE came down to help. Our cab driver(God love him) drove us around Montego Bay to a clinic and we paid a wonderful Dr to write our letter! Or else I would have had to check into that hell hole! The night they admitted me they came in and said we have to put $7,000 on your credit card card! Charged my husband $116.00 usd each night, no pillow, no blanket. Also my love to Tracy, Barbara didn’t mention you in my last review but you were the best!! I truly appreciated your compassion in a difficult situation. Tracy was the phlebotomist ( blood draw IV placement) Thank you again Traci!! ❤️ ❤️ Mindy M Nowacki USA

Tourist scam in Dominican Republic

This happened during our recent stay at Dreams La Romana, Bayahibe, Dominican republic. While the resort itself met expectations in terms of facilities and staff, our experience was significantly impacted by a medical referral made by the on-site doctor. When our one-year-old daughter became seriously ill (39°C fever, diarrhea, throat infection), we were directed to the clinic Hospiten Bavaro in Punta Cana. At the clinic, our child was left without medical assessment for over three hours, and we spent approximately five hours total in the facility. Communication was poor, care was delayed, and there appeared to be a disproportionate focus on payment and insurance processing. The total cost exceeded USD 1,200. During our visit, we encountered another family from the same resort whose infant had reportedly been waiting for close to ten hours. As international guests, we relied on the recommendation made by a medical provider operating on hotel premises. Such referrals carry an implicit endorsement, particularly at a family-oriented Hyatt property. Directing guests to a clinic with such standards raises serious concerns regarding guest safety and exposes the brand to reputational risk. Please be careful. Go with travel insurance and most importantly ask locals, but do not go to HOSPITEN, it is a scam preying on vulnerable tourists.

Hospiten dressed to SCAM

Having experienced the diabolical treatments of this so called hospital, which is without a doubt a front for a worldwide scam, with threats at gunpoint, I can only concur with other's who have submitted reviews that this must be, no is, the most amateur and uncaring hospital group in the world. To start, and it is detailed so be ready for the full truthful story. We were staying at the BAHIA PRINCIPE Amber in Dominican Republic from the 3rd December to the 17th December 2025, when I had an attack of Gout. Having had this painful onset for over 40 years now, I knew that if I could have got a quick jab of cortisone I would be fine for the next few months, so I went to the clinic doctor on site. She examined me and stated that she would insist that I go to the clinic for blood tests and help to alleviate the swelling and pain, that's when the SCAM starts. A Taxi arrived which transported my wife and I past no less than 3 hospitals to a trading estate around 40 minutes from our hotel. On arrival at the "Hospiten" Bavaro, we were bombarded with forms to sign all in Spanish with no given explanation as to what they were, but this is medical professionals so what could go wrong. Finally we were taken to a room where without further to do I was hooked up onto what I believed was a saline drip (But who knows). After 40 minutes a man came in wearing a white coat introduced himself a Mr. ****** looked at my toe and told me I had broken it and I should have my foot put in a cast, I had to explain it was gout which is well known to me as a sufferer. I was then told I needed Blood tests to confirm my well being before any medication could be administered. 1 hour later a young lady came in and took some bloods through the needle they had used for the saline, she then disappeared for 30 minutes only to arrive back with more forms asking for payment for the blood tests, we signed as by now we were confused and unsure what was really happening, ( I have seen the film "Hostel" and it was building up to that sort of feeling of apprehension ) about 1 hour later the first man came back and told me a doctor would come to see me and explain the next steps. A lady in blue scrubs arrived and told me that I had gout? She continued explaining that it was serious and that I should take her advice and be admitted to the unit (By Now I had realised it was not a hospital, not even a field hospital ) she continued to tell me that it could be a few days of observation, and to be prepared for the worst? Knowing and living with Gout I strongly denied her advice and asked her if she could administer some pain relief, reluctantly she offered some anti biotics and a mixture of drugs which I have a list of, but so far not been able to understand what they are for. Everything now takes a turn to the dark side of this front for a SCAM. We were told by the woman in scrubs that we could now leave the facility, ensuring as she did we had the appropriate medical insurance. We went out to the reception area where they had been processing my insurance and told me that they had not had payment authorised, but did have my authorisation number back from the insurers, and it would be a further hour or so before I could leave, unless I paid cash. I stated that we had all insurances in place, that fell on deaf ears, the admin manager was a total nightmare with no interest in welfare at all just money. As we had been there for many hours so far and we had no cash or cards on us, not expecting this outcome when leaving our hotel, we explained insurance was in place and we were leaving as we had not had any drink, or food since early morning, and as I am diabetic I needed to have something. We started to leave to unit and the aforementioned nightmare woman screamed at us, ran outside and commanded the Taxi's not to take us back to the hotel she called security guards who told us we had to go back inside the unit and could not leave, threatening us with hands on their sidearms, this panicked my wife to almost hysteria, even though she had worked in the UK police for 16 years. Things got steadily worse over the next 3 hours, and while we were in this situation so were three other families. A French couple had a baby with a high temperature, a English couple the wife having a serious stomach bug, and an American couple who basically were cowering in the corner as they were so unsure as to what was going to happen to them, all these people had insurance which was disregarded by this Hospiten Group they would only accept cash or debit card, no bank transfer or any other type of payment, including insurance. As this seemed a standoff and we were in a country where we had no idea of the legality of our situation, which could only be described as hostage taking for ransom monies, I called a couple in our hotel arranged for them to collect from our room my card to pay this threat.

Worst hospital EVER!!

My husband and I were staying at the Sandals in Montego Bay, and even though we are in our 70's, they put on us in a room where we had to climb MANY marble stairs to get to. So, I fell coming down the stairs and was carted off to this HORRIBLE hospiten-Montego Bay. Before we could even get in the ER door (and I was screaming in pain!) we had to pay $800 just to get in! Then I was seen by a doctor (?) who confirmed that I had a SEVERE break of my wrist. The took me down to this dungeon, which was supposed to be an "operating room" and proceeded to start yanking on my fingers to try to re-align things, I guess. I was SCREAMING bloody murder from the horrid pain I was in, and mind you, they had an IV in for pain medication BUT NEVER USED IT!! Finally, we said we just wanted to leave that torture chamber, so they put it in a cast, and let us go back to the resort, but not before we paid close to $20,000!! For a cast? Come on!! Needless to say, we got on the quickest flight back to the states. where they said I had THREE severe fractures, that took several operations to fix! PLEASE don't ever let anyone take you to this horrid place!!

Lamentable.

Horrible hospiten.

🇬🇧 **English** When you have an appointment, you usually receive a message the day before — and often again on the same day — to confirm it, period. But when it comes to an operation, they call you one or two days in advance. They don’t send an email; they call. However, if you’re in the car or somewhere without reception, you might see the missed call, but when you try to call back, the trouble begins. You get a long recorded message about how they protect your personal data, that it’s sacred, and that it’s for your own safety. But there’s nowhere to press 1 to continue or press 2 to speak to appointments — nothing at all. It’s just frustrating how they handle it. No email, no SMS, nothing. And everything only in Spanish. Then the English, German, and Dutch people have to somehow figure out what it all means. Sometimes the Spanish is so fast you can’t follow it. Other times it’s slower, and you think you might understand, but it just keeps going — no ending, no beep, no “leave a message” or “call this number.” In short, it’s just useless. And now my appointment at a quarter past eight — which was properly scheduled — has expired. Tonight, I have to go back to the doctor to make a new appointment. And probably, the whole circus will start all over again. A worthless system.

I was admitted via ambulance last…

I was admitted via ambulance last month. The doctor did not tell me he was sending me to a private hospital. As soon as I got out the ambulance, there was a translator standing over me like the grim reapor with a car machine in his hand. This hospital does not accept the European card. As soon as I find out I was being admitted, he changed the amount I was paying from 500 euro to 3000. Standing all the time with a card machine while the nurses were putting an IV into my arm. I was told that as soon as insurance company made contact, the money would be refunded to me.. LIES!!!!!! This hospital has not responded to my insurance company, nor have they responded to me . They have taken my money to pay for a hospital bill that no one has even seen. This place is purely a business and nothing else !!!

Hospiten Estepona has no hope of improving if they don't even recognize their failures! They can't even get the doctor, your name or the appointment right so why trust them

The company can improve by being more caring, speaking easily in English, answering their telephone, being more efficient, being more committed to their patients and patient care, by actually behaving as if they were a trusted business and a reputable hospital. I gave it 2 stars for the female lady I finally (after 7 attempts) to speak to someone as she was quite patient. Not very comitted but at least SHE didn't hang up on me (everyone else did even before I spoke). Basically, from my experience, I believe that every negative review on here is true and accurate. I booked an eye appointment and received comfirmation from them via WhatsApp (not professional and not secure) so considering these reviews I thought I would just call before I set off for the 45 minute journey. They couldn't find my booking, name or anything else. They asked for the name of the doctor who was going to treat me and then I was told but he's on holiday! Absolute chaos, mess, don't rely on them or trust them. My experience was with Hospiten Estepona Spain.
