    I was charged for damage

I was charged for damage, some minute scratches, which I’m told I should have taken pictures of, despite picking the car up in the dark and only having it for 12 hours where it was almost all dark, driving around 50 miles on main A roads, clearly this wasn’t me however Europcar have charged £500 (!!!!) . Do not use this company, clearly this is an income stream.

    Awful. Shocking. Do not use

So far I have been in the queue at Zurich airport to pick up my pre booked car longer then it took me to fly here from Manchester!! Ridiculous. No staff. People with no reservation spending 30+ minutes at the desk standing in the same queue as me. I will never use this company again. I would suggest you don’t either. Hertz on the other hand has no queue.

    Unfair Europcar rip off

As we've said many times yes we signed a contract but we were told an untrue story about our luggage which was not corroborated by their other 2 depots namely our luggage was too big. The other depots both said we should not have been charged more for the car and they hadn't heard of any luggage laws as told to us. 1. We asked the guy in Edinburgh to try our luggage in the car we hired but he refused. He told us there were restrictions on putting luggage on the rear seat (a small carry on bag) He also told us the police were on the lookout for hire cars doing this on the North Coast 500, not knowing the laws we believed him. But I haven't seen any corroboration on the internet to say this is true. 2. We went to Inverness to swap our car as instructed by Europcar's head office via email. 3. Inverness advised us he had not heard from head office and advised us to keep going as smaller cars are like hens teeth. What did they expect us to do? We had already paid $1900aus and had pre booked accommodation. 4. We only signed because we had to have something because we were booked ahead. 5. At no time after we went to Inverness depot were we instructed to go back for a smaller car which we would have done. So why were we instructed to go to Inverness only to find no car available, and why weren't we told to come back the next day or at some other time...were we expected to walk around Scotland?? All of the above borders on a shonky deal and we have been trying to resolve this since April 24th....how long does it take. The contract was signed after we assumed the story we were told was true but since found out it was dubious at best so....if you sign a contract under wrong assumptions it should be voided. Was the initial amount we paid not considered? The car had lollies and other packets in the glove box...the guy in Edinburgh said we might have to fill up with Adblue which we had to do on the first fill of the tank....this should be done by Europcar not the customer...there was no manual in the car so we could not learn anything about how the controls worked. We would never recommend Europcar to anyone, quite the opposite especially when we have been fobbed off with the phrase "but you signed the contract" so even though we were told a story to get us into a bigger car which we didn't want and didn't order it doesn't matter to Europcar? We booked a Citroen C3 or similar and we would have easily fit our luggage in that sized car. When we took the car back to Manchester Trafford Park the man who took delivery of the car was called Usama and he told us we should not have to put Adblue in the car as it's Europcar's job to do it...he said the guy in Edinburgh might have lied to get a bigger bonus...he said we would be reimbursed for the Adblue and the bond money both of which we are yet to see. Thanks, Peter Brock

    Ongoing woes

I would have given them ZERO or less if I could, they don't listen to you and it's impossible to talk to anyone from the Preston branch, the WORST company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I had made several official complaints but still nothing happens

    Sneaky company

Sneaky company. I have selected no extra protection at the website, then I said I don't want extra protection at the woman when I was taking the car but she has sneak extra protection at the papers. I thought I was singing for the price of the car as it was similar but I ended up paying double the amount from the price we have agreed. I will never rent a car from them again.

    BEWARE - Lisbon Airport

BEWARE - I have been mis sold additional insurance and roadside assistance although I kindly refused the offer of the sales guy. Documents only available in Portuguese and I was clearly lied to as when querying charges I was told I am signing for returnable deposit and not for additional charges. Customer service not interested as I put my signature on the piece of paper :( If you, like me, choose Europcar for their professionalism and customer service, maybe look at alternatives

    BE CAREFULL USING EUROPCAR UK

We booked a car via sunny cars for eur 350. When we came back home I received an extra amount to pay of eur 500 for upgrade car, surcharge airport and insurance. This is what happenend. We were in a hurry , because we had a delay with the airplane and had a meeting. The woman who helped us , Sharon, was very nice and said to help us as quickly as possible and that everything was taken care of. She said that she would provide us with a nice car. She saw that we already had full coverage via Sunny cars so also no need to check the car. “ We have to block a certain amount on your credit card but that is for deposit purposes only” she said “ You just have to sign here , here and here and then you can go “ So that is what happened . When we were back in the Netherlands I received your mail about the credit card payment. AN EXTRA eur 500 ( apart from the gasoline which is OK ) This is part of their business model . BE CAREFULL with EUROPCAR UK

I got a hire car through the RAC until…

I got a hire car through the RAC until my car goes into repair with Arnold Clarke next week. Thought great it’s coming within a few hours but once the car arrived I wasn’t happy at all. I was told the car was with the valeting team before it gets delivered which was a lie. The car is filthy to the point the cloth I used was black after wiping down all the interior. The carpets are full of crumbs, dirt and stains which look like blobs of sick 🥴 It also smells horrible it’s a 74 plate MG which is the same year as my car with just over 10,000 miles for a car to smell the way this does you’d think it was 12 years old and never cleaned. For someone that’s on a mobility scheme for my child & have my child in this filthy was just not a option I will be cleaning it for my use only but I will not be returning it immaculate as this is not the condition it was delivered in very disappointed and haven taken pictures as proof.

    Scamming extras out of nowhere.

Scamming extras out of nowhere. We booked a small car to go away for the long weekend in the beginning of May and everything went well, they even gave us an upgrade which was amazing. Quick to pick up the car, great to bring it back, everything speedy... However.... not being a local and not having driven loads in the UK roads, it can be extremely hard to avoid getting an automatic fine. I went into a bus lane on a Monday (bank holiday though) on an empty road, at a junction that is designed so you will unavoidably touch the bus lane if you are not laser focused on the markings on the road. A very scammy, tricky place to get a fine. I get the fine on my email. £35. Angry but i said ok, better luck next time. Then i see that Europcar thinks its ok to add a £45 'administration' fee, as if they have to do anything time consuming, other than send an email. So they want MORE than the fine because what you can do? Its in the booklong terms and conditions. Fear not, i will pay you this administration fee but you WILL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN as a customer. I took great care to be careful with the car and return it in great shape, i was on time and i get 'fined' with nothing, so you can pocket easy money? That's the last you will ever see from me again. Bye!

    Europcar - Glasgow Airport…

We travelled to Glasgow from South Africa and booked a car in advance. The service was impeccable, from coping with a day's delay in arrival to finding and returning a lost jacket after returning the car. Malcolm and his team did a great job.

    Absolute scammers

Absolute scammers. A car crashed into my rental while I was 15 miles away. The company have ignored my requests for any information on the insurance claim, only able to send invoices and debt collectors. It's been seven months since the driver knocked my door and admitted fault. They've given me no communication on the insurance and now im at a dead end where every department has told me they dont deal with this but also refuse to give me another department to try. I have even explained im happy to pay the money I just want to see some documentation on the insurance outcome as over one month after they confimed they hadn't started this process yet. I just want to know how to get reimbursement when the insurance claim goes through. Don't use this company if you like your sanity.... Absolute disgraceful service

Seems to be a common theme on miss-sold upgrades

Seems to be a common theme on upgrades. Don't be persuaded as the information they provide can be inaccurate. I was 'sold' a "2 grade upgrade" and a "special deal" - It was the same size category and customer services are not interested afterwards as I signed the document. But the issue in airport desks is you cannot see the car until you pick it up - pickup guy said I had to walk back 15 mins to desk to change back again (with my family who just want to go on holiday!). Waste of time and money - DON'T BOTHER WITH UPGRADES!

    Customer service and refunds

Hired a car to be delivered to my home address on 14/05/25 to be returned on 21/05/25. Reservation confirmed and payment of £203.54 was taken from my bank account immediately (14/05/25). At approx 6.00pm the same day I received a phone call to inform me the car I had paid for was no longer available. I was asked if I wished to upgrade. I refused and asked for a full refund immediately. Despite the inconvience of having to sort another car rental our at such a late date the worst thing is I have still not received a refund despite phone calls and emails. Europcar were quick to take the money but 6 days for a refund seems a bit much! DO NOT USE this company.

    Disgusting

Booked a car through an agency for 350 EUR for six days, were offered an upgrade for 30 GBP per day and were charged 625 GBP extra in the end. Contacted UK Customer Service, who did nothing about it. Unethical company that robs clients. A shameful way of making money. Disgusting. And don’t think Europcar tries to resolve this issue by adding the reply below. If Europcar wanted to resolve anything, they had every chance. So no. They will never see us again.

Would have given 0 stars if option

Would have given 0 stars if option Seems to be a theme about mis selling insurance. I am currently "in conversation" with customer services about added extras I never ordered and I am looking for a refund. I never requested roadside assistance or personal protection but these were added to invoice. This is a scam where they make these additions part of your deposit. It is basically theft. Customer services have now told me that cannot do anything as they were not part of verbal conservation at location - they have said that I should have been offered extras and asked to accept or decline which never happened. So basically buyer should be aware of this practice and scrutinise what you are signing up for and make sure no extras have been added surreptitiously I would also beware of premium location surcharge that is added to costs. I certainly will not hire from them again.

    AVOID - SCAM ARTISTS

AVOID. Terrible hire company. Paid to hire a van online, money came out of my bank. Rang the HQ the day before to confirm everything is good to go for the hire day, they confirmed that the van will be ready and everything has gone through fine. When I turned up to pick up the van I PAID to hire, I got told they do an “eligibility” check to see if you can afford to pay the fees. I got declined, even though I already paid for the hire. There’s no credit?? What hire company does credit checks for something not on credit? Afford rent a car, enterprise are MILES better than these cowards. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Especially the Stoke On Trent branch.
