Review summary

Writerbay receives mixed feedback from its users, with a significant number expressing dissatisfaction. While some reviewers appreciate the helpful support team and timely payments, many others criticize the company's application process and overall professionalism. Customers report poor communication and vague feedback, often feeling that their applications are rejected without clear reasons. The low pay rates, particularly for professional papers, are also a common complaint, with some stating that the compensation does not reflect the effort required. Despite a few positive experiences highlighted by long-term users, the overwhelming sentiment points to frustration and disappointment. Overall, Writerbay struggles to meet the expectations of many potential and current writers.

writerbay is a scam

WriterBay is a scam. Don't even bother with that website. I was working with them, staying loyal and delivering high-quality jobs. My account had good ratings, and I had completed over 600 orders with them. 90% of those orders had 4 and 5 stars. However, one day they returned the work claiming that it had poor grammar. I sent the Grammarly report with a 90% score and even asked them to check on their end what score it had. However, they said their decision was final and went ahead to give me a warning. Before long, my account was put on probation and then closed. After working with them for 2 years, one order prompted them to do this.

WriterBaUnethical Practices, Punitive AI Policies, and Exploitative Working Conditions – Avoid WriterBayy is one of the most…

WriterBay is one of the most frustrating and exploitative academic writing platforms I’ve encountered. Their policies are designed to punish writers rather than ensure quality work, and their inconsistent enforcement of rules borders on outright dishonesty. 1. Deceptive AI Policies & Witch-Hunting Writers WriterBay claims to prioritize Turnitin and ZeroGPT as the standard AI detection tools—yet even when your work passes these checks, they arbitrarily use unreliable, unverified third-party detectors to flag "AI content." These tools often misidentify grammar edits, references, or even original writing as AI-generated, yet WriterBay uses them to justify punitive fines, withheld payments, and unjust account suspensions. This isn’t quality control—it’s a predatory tactic to avoid paying writers. 2. False Promises on Promotions The platform sets clear promotion criteria, but when you meet them, they invent new, unstated reasons to deny advancement. This bait-and-switch approach shows a lack of integrity—key values in academia that WriterBay blatantly disregards. 3. Exploitative Pay & Modern-Day Sweatshop Conditions The pay is abysmal, and the terms are harsh. Writers invest time and effort only to face arbitrary penalties, withheld earnings, and shifting goalposts. It’s modern academic slavery—demanding high-quality work while offering no fair compensation or respect. Conclusion: A Platform Built on Bad Faith If you value fairness, consistency, or ethical treatment, avoid WriterBay. They claim to uphold academic standards but operate on deception, punitive measures, and exploitation. There are better platforms out there—don’t waste your time here.

Pros:

Pros: 1. Helpful Support 2. Timely Payments. Cons: 1. Extremely Poor Pay- Only pay $2-3 per page, even for professional papers. I once saw a 9-page paper they were only paying $15. 2. No professional development opportunities. Going up levels does not translate into better pay. I moved from junior writer to senior writer years ago and that didn't translate into better pay. 3. Cumbersome and absurd A.I policy. Writerbay has developed a habit of using other A.I checkers apart from the standard Turnitin. They expect a writer to use a many as four different A.I checkers for one job. They say it is to guarantee quality but that is not true. 4. Unfair fines- Sometimes, writerbay will fine you unfairly claiming poor quality work without showing you the proof. They once paid me half the amount for an order I spent two weeks working on alone and fined me the other half claiming the work was of poor quality. 5. Low work volume- Unlike 2 yrs ago, the current writerbay has very low work volume, even in the high season when other companies have work. You are loosing customers because of how you treat writers. Good experienced writers like myself are leaving Writerbay in droves and selling their accounts to other inexperienced writers to make a worthwhile amount after suffering under your company. You can say it is against company policy, but nobody cares. Verdict: If you are considering joining Writerbay, please don't as you will stagnate professionally and in life. I worked for this company for three years and my life went nowhere. Do not do the same mistake I did. Edit—As I had predicted, Writerbay replied with generic answers that mimic emotional intelligence but have none at all. They do nothing to address writers' concerns, only giving generic answers to everything to frustrate the writer more. This organization is a big letdown and an insult to all writers. Beware, please keep off!

From Top-Rated Writer to Unfairly…

From Top-Rated Writer to Unfairly Suspended – The Worst Experience Ever I have been with Writerbay for years, completing over 1,560 orders with a stellar rating that consistently hovered between 9.6 and 9.8. My dedication was unquestionable — countless late nights, meeting impossible deadlines, and delivering high-quality work. And yet, despite my proven track record, I was treated in the most unfair and demoralizing way imaginable. Out of my entire history, only 4 papers ever received 1-star ratings, 3 papers got 2 stars, and 2 papers received 3 stars — that’s roughly 0.00961% of my total work. But one particular 1-star rating completely destroyed my standing. It came from a paper wrongly flagged as AI-generated, even though the main content was original. The so-called “AI” was detected in the cover page and reference list — formatting elements that any reasonable person knows do not affect the substance of the paper. The client had even copied and pasted my work without the cover page and references, but Writerbay insisted that I should have uploaded the entire document, including those pages, into their AI checker. This ridiculous technicality led to my account being suspended for two weeks. The condition for reinstatement? Complete 10 orders in July 2025 — a month when there were barely any available orders, and most that appeared paid as little as $1 per page. I stayed awake at night just to grab whatever I could. I managed to complete the required orders, only to get a 3-star rating on one of them. That single rating ended my entire career with Writerbay. After years of loyalty, this felt like a slap in the face. Their punishment was extreme, their quality control policies inconsistent, and their support team dismissive. One mistake — even one based on a flawed and irrelevant process — should never erase years of proven excellence. The experience was not just disappointing, it was demoralizing and deeply disrespectful to dedicated writers. If you are a freelancer thinking of joining Writerbay, know this: your hard work and long-term record mean nothing here. All it takes is one arbitrary decision, and you could lose everything you built — no matter how much you have given to the company. My verdict: The worst professional experience I have ever had.

Writerbay has gone from a great company…

Writerbay has gone from a great company to a horrible and sadistic company. I've been in the company for many years and it was great until the pandemic. Post-pandemic, it gradually deteriorated and became very stressful to work at, especially with the advent of AI. Regardless of your writer rating, in my case, it consistently hovers between 4.68 and 4.80 out of 5, which is very good by most companies' standards, it is still not good enough because they expect you to get 5 stars ALL the time. At some point, I explained to them that even factories have some margin for defects, but they still want 5 stars ALL the time. If you get a 3 rating or below, they will pounce on you, especially if you get a 1 rating, which will get you a demotion.is work is no longer sustainable because at some point, you will get 3, 2 or 1 star rating and whatever 5 stars or rating you have, that 1 star will demote you and they will find justification, for it, often, giving out a sadistic and overkill penalty. Let me illustrate the realistic practice of Writerbay today for you to have an appreciation of the bigger picture from the writer's point of view. I completed 4,419 approved orders, with quality controls of 3 and warnings of 21, which means that only 0.0054% of all orders I completed had issues. Do your own interpretation wit the figures. With that experience (plus in other companies) and a rating that hovers 4.68-4.80, you might think that I would be in the top tier of writers of the company. No, not anymore, I am now in a regular status, just recently demoted because of 1 star just like before. This is to illustrate that this gig is no longer sustainable because a 1 star will defeat all your 5 stars no matter how many they are. Also, there are barely any projects available even during peak season, and writers are scrambling for very little work. As I am writing now, there's only 1 order available for all the writers. The latest justification for the demotion is that I used AI in the paper. I didn't explain myself anymore, knowing it was pointless. I will just receive a template saying repeated violation of terms blah blah and the context is 4,494 papers approved of 4.78 rating with only 24 issues, and this constitutes recidivism on their part. Its just funny because its an outline of a paper I wrote that was not flagged as AI. Instruction was vague and client suggested another topic but I stuck with what was the original instruction and was also dinged for not following instructions. I did not explain anymore. There are many cases like this that if you get 1 star, you will be demoted so its no longer sustainable. At some point, it became so ridiculous. To illustrate, I wrote a paper involving my own culture, for which the dispute manager questioned me about where I got that perspective and concluded I was inventing it because I did not cite it (I was writing about my own culture, I am the source). Another is that the dispute manager concluded that I should have written a business report in MLA format, which is a no-no in business writing. Another is when I refused to do an almost 10-page lesson plan for free in addition to a presentation. This practice is becoming rampant, where you are expected to write more. I was demoted three steps due to this issue, and my rating was 4.80 at the time. This is now the reality of Writerbay. They may provide neat answers here, but the practice is different. To be fair, It was not like this before. There was a time this was a great company to work for. It used to pay well that I was able to setup my art studio and financed my preparation for an exhibit. The work was also enjoyable. Now, it pays a pittance with barely any work available even for top-tier writers and management is becoming sadistic with their excessive penalties. To demonstrate, they justified my 1 star rating as AI written, they asked me to take a quiz with 10 questions with 3 to 4 choices for each question. But there is a catch, you must answer them all correctly and it will not tell which question you missed. The obvious answers wont work. So you have to redo them in eternity (compute the permutations of the possibilities of answers). This is not meant to educate writers about AI but to punish us further in addition to 2 2-step demotion, cancellation of payment, plus a fine. This is to demonstrate the sadism or an extreme practice of slave driving which you will go through once you work here. Apply if you are ready to accept this kind of practice. Why am I still here? I will start writing for a competitor this September, so I am putting up with this until my transfer. Will they change practice or improve? I doubt it, I anticipate retaliation, but I no longer care. I already have enough of their sadistic penalties. Im writing here to save you from the stress of working here.

Poor communication and overall bad experience!

I was hesitant to apply because the rating here is so low, and usually, that's a clear sign it's not a great choice. I went ahead and applied, and they sent me a generic template that they send to everyone, based on feedback. Poor communication and overall bad experience with the HR team at WB.

I applied to WriterBay and followed all their requirements, but they rejected me without a valid reason. It feels like a total scam! I did everything properly, and it’s frustrating to see such a lack of professionalism. I wouldn’t recommend this site to anyone looking for legitimate writing opportunities. It’s really fake and not worth your time!
