1 out of 5 stars
Jul 6, 2025

Writerbay has gone from a great company…

Writerbay has gone from a great company to a horrible and sadistic company. I've been in the company for many years and it was great until the pandemic. Post-pandemic, it gradually deteriorated and became very stressful to work at, especially with the advent of AI. Regardless of your writer rating, in my case, it consistently hovers between 4.68 and 4.80 out of 5, which is very good by most companies' standards, it is still not good enough because they expect you to get 5 stars ALL the time. At some point, I explained to them that even factories have some margin for defects, but they still want 5 stars ALL the time. If you get a 3 rating or below, they will pounce on you, especially if you get a 1 rating, which will get you a demotion.is work is no longer sustainable because at some point, you will get 3, 2 or 1 star rating and whatever 5 stars or rating you have, that 1 star will demote you and they will find justification, for it, often, giving out a sadistic and overkill penalty. Let me illustrate the realistic practice of Writerbay today for you to have an appreciation of the bigger picture from the writer's point of view. I completed 4,419 approved orders, with quality controls of 3 and warnings of 21, which means that only 0.0054% of all orders I completed had issues. Do your own interpretation wit the figures. With that experience (plus in other companies) and a rating that hovers 4.68-4.80, you might think that I would be in the top tier of writers of the company. No, not anymore, I am now in a regular status, just recently demoted because of 1 star just like before. This is to illustrate that this gig is no longer sustainable because a 1 star will defeat all your 5 stars no matter how many they are. Also, there are barely any projects available even during peak season, and writers are scrambling for very little work. As I am writing now, there's only 1 order available for all the writers. The latest justification for the demotion is that I used AI in the paper. I didn't explain myself anymore, knowing it was pointless. I will just receive a template saying repeated violation of terms blah blah and the context is 4,494 papers approved of 4.78 rating with only 24 issues, and this constitutes recidivism on their part. Its just funny because its an outline of a paper I wrote that was not flagged as AI. Instruction was vague and client suggested another topic but I stuck with what was the original instruction and was also dinged for not following instructions. I did not explain anymore. There are many cases like this that if you get 1 star, you will be demoted so its no longer sustainable. At some point, it became so ridiculous. To illustrate, I wrote a paper involving my own culture, for which the dispute manager questioned me about where I got that perspective and concluded I was inventing it because I did not cite it (I was writing about my own culture, I am the source). Another is that the dispute manager concluded that I should have written a business report in MLA format, which is a no-no in business writing. Another is when I refused to do an almost 10-page lesson plan for free in addition to a presentation. This practice is becoming rampant, where you are expected to write more. I was demoted three steps due to this issue, and my rating was 4.80 at the time. This is now the reality of Writerbay. They may provide neat answers here, but the practice is different. To be fair, It was not like this before. There was a time this was a great company to work for. It used to pay well that I was able to setup my art studio and financed my preparation for an exhibit. The work was also enjoyable. Now, it pays a pittance with barely any work available even for top-tier writers and management is becoming sadistic with their excessive penalties. To demonstrate, they justified my 1 star rating as AI written, they asked me to take a quiz with 10 questions with 3 to 4 choices for each question. But there is a catch, you must answer them all correctly and it will not tell which question you missed. The obvious answers wont work. So you have to redo them in eternity (compute the permutations of the possibilities of answers). This is not meant to educate writers about AI but to punish us further in addition to 2 2-step demotion, cancellation of payment, plus a fine. This is to demonstrate the sadism or an extreme practice of slave driving which you will go through once you work here. Apply if you are ready to accept this kind of practice. Why am I still here? I will start writing for a competitor this September, so I am putting up with this until my transfer. Will they change practice or improve? I doubt it, I anticipate retaliation, but I no longer care. I already have enough of their sadistic penalties. Im writing here to save you from the stress of working here.
