Review summary

Mayo Clinic receives a mix of feedback, with a significant majority of reviews expressing dissatisfaction. While some customers praise the quality of care and knowledgeable doctors, noting exceptional service in certain instances, the overwhelming sentiment is negative. Many reviewers report issues with appointment cancellations, long wait times, and a perceived lack of compassion from staff. Complaints about the clinic's focus on profit over patient care are prevalent, with accusations of discrimination against those who are not wealthy or white. Additionally, several consumers mention difficulties in obtaining timely care and the high upfront fees required for appointments. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, reflecting a troubling experience for many patients.

The ST Marys Childrens Hospital is a Authoritarian nightmare

The ST Marys Childrens Hospital is a very competant hospital, however... My grandchild was diagnosed with Cancer and my son asked if there were any alternatives to the chemo they wanted to start immediately. They came back with the aggressive response of "You will start the chemo within 7 days or Child Protective Services will be on your doorstep". They have been very nasty to deal with and told us not to bother with a second opinion. They are a good hospital but there are many more ranked higher. Stay clear of this institution.

I had major headache problems. Mayo doc ordered a ct of my head. Results showed a brain tumor (meningioma) ok no real problem. MRI done W contrast was recommended. Per the doc no problem. My problem is that when I had A previous CT of my head in 2022 it showed the same meningioma and at that time no one reported this to me. All of this is downplayed as no big deal by them at Mayo . It is a big deal to me and I should have been informed.

Great healthcare but more $$ based than patient based.

I've been treated at Mayo (Rochester) in the past and had amazing care from extremely knowledgeable doctors. I'd spent 1.5 years going to specialists in my own state. The neurologist I saw at Mayo made a diagnosis in 1 hour my own neurologist had never even heard of. I suffered a long time under the care of a local neurologist that couldn't have diagnosed me at all. Their neurology department is fantastic and I can't speak highly enough of them. Several years later I got a bad head injury, and once again I've been to multiple specialists with no resolution. I contacted Mayo because they were remarkable the first time I went. They basically wanted to talk money before even discussing my healthcare. I understand that they have to pay their bills too and that finances are a concern for any business, but asking for thousands down is just not something that a lot of people can do. They also gave my mom an experimental shot and didn't tell her that it was experimental and not covered by insurance. She got a bill for several thousand dollars for a SHOT 💉💉 That's insane. There's no way any shot costs that much to make. They weren't shooting diamonds into her.

International cases at Mayo Clinic

I opened up a case with the Mayo Clinic Rochester in early December 2025 for my 15 year old daughter to get A second opinion of her wrist, due to a fall. We come from Canada and this would be done through the International Office. We have no US-based insurance. We would have to pay for everything out of pocket. We began the process and were instructed to send the reports and images we had. The first email says, "Please send us any medical records or other relevant information." No mention of cost. The second email says nothing about a cost either. The third email says, "A physician from one of our specialties will review your medical records to determine if Mayo Clinic can provide additional benefit. There is no cost for this record review." In that same email, there is a statement that says, "You may incur charges if radiology and/or pathology slides need to be reviewed by a radiologist and/or pathologist." But, there's no sense of what it could possibly cost. We did send images and we sent the radiologist's reports with each one. So, to determine IF the Mayo Clinic could even consider taking my daughter as a case, shouldn't really have required another radiologist to interpret the images. So, we got an invitation for an appointment. All I had to do was give $10,000 US as a "pre-service deposit" to be able to schedule in-person appointments. No indication is made as to what anything could cost. No estimate of the cost of a doctor visit, an x-ray, a blood test, etc. Essentially, we will charge you what we want and you agree to it all. Well, this is a lot of money and we decided to look elsewhere, primarily because there was no minimum or maximum cost provided. I can't agree to something if I don't have a clue as to what it could possibly cost. After all, I was only looking for an opinion. Today (Jan 14th) I received a bill for $1099 USD for reading the CT and MRI I sent ($1537 CAN). Being Canadian, where we don't pay for anything related to medical/hospital care, this is surprising and simply amazing as I wasn't notified it was going to happen. I was only told it may happen and I may get a bill. No one asked me to proceed/approve at this incredibly high cost. I would have said no if asked. I don't understand why the images i sent would require another radiologist to interpret them when I sent it with the original images. By the way, the reports were interpreted but I wasn't notified until I received the bill today and I did not receive a copy of the written report. We have sought other opinions from around the world, including other US-based hospitals. Everywhere else, they have given a cost for a "second opinion" up front and they stick to it. With the Europeans, we have had online appointments with surgeons and specialists, with no fee assessed (they were provided the same reports and images as we sent Mayo). So, for fellow Canadians and any international patients - proceed with caution. There is no regard for your money. The Mayo Clinic will charge you anything they want without seeking approval first.

Dr Raymond Pak

Dr Raymond Pak, Head of Urology at Mayo Jax, is as good as it gets in Florida, but getting to him for timely care is next to impossible at Mayo Jacksonville, and I am writing this as an established patient of Dr Pak's and as a patient of Mayo in general since 2010. Mayo Jax Urology Dept has created a firewall of young people in the form of PA's, NP's, and staff at the appointments desk, and they make a lot of mistakes, are very very slow to respond, can be disrespectful, and a few of them speak with authority and power that they do not possess -- as if they are the owners of Mayo Clinic and the customers' care and concerns are optional to them. It is a disgrace. Mayo Phoenix/Scottsdale was absolutely not like this. Jacksonville urology admin/appointments staffers need to be replaced with professionals who can at least pretend that the customers' appointments, concerns and timely, error-free communications matter to them. Set your expectations very low if you choose to trust them with your care. Otherwise, avoid.

Avoid Mayo Clinic Women’s Health Clinic…

Avoid Mayo Clinic Women’s Health Clinic at all costs. There are better options. Providers do not listen to the patient and as a patient I felt bullied during my visit. Never have I experienced conduct from a provider as I have at the Women’s Health Clinic. Mayo Clinic is not what they used to be.

I've had several bad experiences with…

I've had several bad experiences with the doctors and nurses at the Mayo Clinic in Fairmont, MN. I've had a doctor who never filled critical medications when they needed to be filled. I've been treated like less of a person just because of my income stature. I think this clinic like a lot of others is only concerned with healing the rich. I've also been prescribed dangerous mixtures of medications which led to severe complications. Because of this clinic I now have a hard time trusting any doctors.

Mayo Clinic Killed My Father

Per my father’s Death Certificate and Mayo's Clinical Notes of each of the 4 Mayo doctors (Boniface, Mayo, Brumble and Roy) who treated my father after the June 14, 2021 biopsy performed by Dr. Massimo Raimondo, it was Raimondo's errant biopsy that caused my father’s death. Raimondo performed what should have been a very routine Endoscopy Ultrasound and biopsy of a small mass near my father’s pancreas they were 95% certain non-cancerous. Raimondo "accidentally" biopsied his repaired aortic aneurysm which caused bacteria to enter his bloodstream that quickly turned into sepsis and after 3 weeks of unbearable pain and gradual, horrifying deterioration and loss of all bodily functions and use of extremities, he passed away in a hospice on July 12, 2021. The errant biopsy was the fatal failure by Mayo staff, it was not the only one. Here are the top 3 of many: 1) Unconscionable communications - the first communication to my father and his wife of 67 years one day after ER admittance on June 20, 2021 following the errant biopsy was not a diagnosis nor treatment plan from his doctors, it was Mayo’s hospice group requesting which hospice center my father should be sent to. The next day Dr. Mayo says that communication was premature, then over the next few days - Dr. Brumble tells the family the plan is to discharge my father tomorrow to hospice, then Dr. Mayo indicates the possibility of home care with antibiotics, then Dr. Roy says he can be discharged home 7-14 days after a clear blood culture to take antibiotics at home, then a nurse practitioner says the plan is to discharge him tomorrow for hospice, then Dr. Roy again says he can be discharged home 7-14 days after a clear blood culture, then beginning on June 29, no communication of any kind from the doctors that were treating him and the family is left with the unspoken realization Mayo has abandoned Leslie and must make hospice arrangements. 2) Inhumane pain management - my father was forced to endure multiple episodes daily that would last up to 4 hours of intolerable level 10 pain with elevated fever, heart rate and uncontrollable shaking. It took 30-45 minutes before any pain medication was administered due to their archaic and inhumane 6-step internal procedure to slow-walk its way through 4 different staff members. My father could feel the episode coming on and we would beg the Mayo staff to start the process or be prepared to - to no avail. 3) Abandonment - the 3 doctors responsible for his care (Mayo, Brumble and Roy) completely abandoned him after week 1 of 2 he spent in Mayo he** - not 1 of the 3 Mayo doctors made a single visit to see my father or speak to his family the 2nd week after daily visits 1st week as they were certain his death was imminent and they wanted to distant themselves from a dying man. During his 1st week at Mayo, a senior nurse asked my father if he wanted to continue treatment (living). After an immediate yes, she asked again if he was sure. Unconscionable!! A Kepro (the outsourced quality of care investigative company for Medicare) review by 2 medical experts concluded Mayo’s quality of care for my father’s pain management “did not meet all applicable professionally recognized standards of health care”. As a result, Mayo was required to enroll in Kepro’s Quality Innovation Network Quality Improvement Organization to educate Mayo’s staff in pain management proper drug choice, dosages, frequency and timeliness of drug administration, method of administration, etc. This was akin to sending this supposedly esteemed clinical staff to take an equivalent of a college level 101 class in pain treatment. The Dept of Health Investigative Unit conducted an investigation into Raimondo's errant biopsy and referred findings to the Prosecution Unit. Prosecution investigation did not dispute Raimondo’s errant biopsy killed my father but no evidence of procedure not followed - "Accidents happen."

Mayo clinic: parrot of the corrupt FDA

Mayo clinic is nothing more than a parrot for big pharma and the corrupt FDA. For example, there is an all natural and non addictive supplement out there, now getting protection acts throughout the country, called Kratom. It has saved literally thousands of lives from opioid addiction as well and these people talk about it like it's crack. They don't like big pharmaceutical companies getting circumvented and patients actually getting a solution to opioid addiction, anxiety and depression or pain relief. It is appalling!

Mayo doesn't care if you are in pain

Mayo only prescribes pain meds if you are dying. I say this from personal experience. I am a patient at Mayo in North Phoenix. Neither my GI nor PCP at Mayo prescribes pain meds now that im past my surgeries and had my colon taken out. Even though my severe refractory disease no longer responds to treatment and I am in pain, they couldn't care less. My PCP can't even look me in the face and say I am not allowed because I work at Mayo. Instead, she offers a 3-week program to learn about alternative methods, as if I hadn't already tried everything under the sun. The program requires you to be on the Mayo campus every day, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for three weeks. It's insulting, this pcp knows I have lost several part-time jobs bc of my pain, and the little amount of work that I have now doesn't pay unless I complete the job. When she looks at me and says useless responses at every appointment, it makes me feel sick—fake doctor. Save your money, go somewhere else.

Mayo: Sugar not harmful for cancer patients?

Sugar is not harmful for cancer patients? I beg you pardon? I think you need to get out of your box which you are living within, and get to study the scientific and published and peer reviewed works of: Dr. Jamnadas, Professor Thomas Seyfried Dr. William Li, Dr. John Campbell Dr. Sten Engberg ... and thousands with them - and get to a better and more concurrent conclusion than what you publish on your page numbered 20044714 (under diseases-condition, cancer, in-depth, cancer-causes, art-20044714) It is unacceptable that you write such things on your page, and that you write that all cells depend on sugar (glucose), while fact is that indeed you can have your body cells largely feed on ketosis (!), you can do fasting, you can do lots of things which will stall or even in some cases cure your cancer. Well. It would be desirable that you get into a serious revision of your statement here, and come back stronger and more wise. Sincerely

The Mayo Clinic - Jacksonville: A Dangerous Disgrace to Veterans and to Medicine

As a highly decorated, 100% disabled Air Force combat veteran--a retired Lieutenant Colonel who served in four combat operations (JOINT ENDEAVOR, ALLIED FORCE, SOUTHERN WATCH, and ENDURING FREEDOM)--I came to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville for one reason: to survive. After four years of debilitating long-COVID, I flew over 4,000 miles from our home in Portugal, desperate for the world-class care Mayo claims to offer. I rented a car, spent over $2,000 on an Airbnb, and planned to stay a month--possibly even relocate--if I found the help I desperately needed. I arrived at the ER early on March 23, 2025, exhausted after driving the streets of Jacksonville all night. Why? Because the Airbnb host refused to give me access unless I signed an agreement outside of Airbnb's policies--and I refused. I walked into the Mayo ER asking for help. Instead, I was immediately sedated, stripped of my rights, and held against my will. Within hours, I was labeled "suicidal and homicidal" (a laughable claim given the circumstances), and involuntarily committed to a mental institution for 72 hours. Let me ask you: Would a suicidal or homicidal man fly 4,000 miles, rent a car and an apartment, and spend thousands of dollars trying to get medical care only to become suddenly suicidal or homicidal? Of course not, that's ridiculous. But the Mayo Clinic didn't care. Once I escaped this nightmare, I booked the first flight out of Jacksonville and immediately contacted an attorney. Mayo Clinic's ER staff violated my civil rights, plain and simple--but in Jacksonville, Mayo is apparently untouchable. No lawyer will take them on. And now? They're trying to bill me over $10,000--despite the fact that I'm fully covered by Tricare for Life and owe nothing. They've even threatened collections! DISABLED VETERANS BE WARNED: The Mayo Clinic is not the caring, elite institution they pretend to be. They will violate your rights, detain you without cause, and profit from your suffering. I was told by several multi-hospitalization patients as well as a few River Point Behavioral Health staff (who will remain nameless)) that this deplorable Mayo-River Point financial collaboration has been going on for quite some time. This is not care. This is medical abuse. DO NO HARM? CombatCritic Gives The Disgraceful Mayo Clinic - Jacksonville ZERO BOMBS OUT OF 10 ... And A Permanent Spot On My WALL OF SHAME™ ... More Bombs Are Better (Unless You're On the Receiving End)

After reading several of your negative…

After reading several of your negative reviews, I wondered if it was about the same place. One late evening I went to the emergency room thinking I was having a Stroke. After several tests, blood work, x-rays were completed, it was determined I had a bout with Vertigo. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous. Doctor Jones was very Professional and personable, and listened. The nurses were very pleasant and kind as well. I left my hat in the room I was in and Caroline N. called about it. We were quite a ways from hospital and didn't want to go back. She offered to mail it to me, and a few days later I received it. Keep up the good work, and thanks for a very pleasant visit......Tony

Mayo Clinic Lacks Basic Human Decency

I had a telehealth visit with the Gastroenterology Department on April 7, The following week I delivered my images and test results. I emailed the portal and let them know they had all of my information. The response was from someone I never spoke with who said I will let them know. It’s been three months since my telehealth appointment without so much as a word. I AM A HUMAN BEING - NOT A PIECE OF TRASH. It is nothing short of CRUEL to give a patient the false hope they will be treated and then ignore them.
