The cost of Travel Insurance Direct was the first thing that I noticed being quite cheap and offering good coverage. I had used them twice before having any issues. On my most recent coverage with TID, I had the unfortunately experience of having my notebook computer stolen. Checkout is in the morning as usual so I had my luggage and bags stored in my hostel's secured and locked holding area. My laptop was unfortunately stolen out of my bag so I made a claim with TID and their insurance company (Cerebus Claims). After providing all t he information they opted not to award the claim in favour. The reasoning was that because the hostel is a public area and hostel patrons have access to the secured and locked room as well. This is unfortunate because a hostel is a communal residence with shared bathrooms, bedrooms etc. Therefore using their PDS and wording, they are covered for anything that is stolen if you are staying in a hostel. Summary: Do not use TID if you plan to stay in a hostel.
As I have not made a claim and can not comment on this side but have had the insurance numerous times I find the process and people on the other end of the phone so easy to get on with it makes it a pleasure to use TID.
Comprehensive, cost effective, transparent, friendly and easy to understand - I don't bother shopping around anymore. TID is where it's at!

I have used Travel Insurance Direct for many years for domestic and international travel. It is good value, easy to get a quote and pay online and to make a claim. One time I realised I was covered by insurance many months after arriving home and they accepted my claim without hesitation. Having travel insurance with no excess is also not too expensive.
I had a positive experience with TID. My claim was processed fairly quickly and, once they received all the requested information, I received a reimbursement for the lost item. Generally happy and would definitely use again.

My wife and I have used TID several times over the past few years and have never had to make a claim until this year. Our claim for airline cancellation charges (we had to cancel our trip due to my foot surgery) was denied due to a "pre-existing medical condition". I had had a problem with my ankle 2 years ago which required no medical treatment. We will not use TID for future overseas trips.
Well I didn't have a claim so I don't have much to go on. Except when I applied on line there was this 'get your free travel money card here'. I thought this could be handy... ( this all flowed on from the original application) So then at the end I read the details in the travel card information and about the charges per transaction and charges for this and that, so I immediately try to cancel the travel card. 4 days later, numerous phone calls and emails do you think I could get hold of any to cancel the 'free travel card' - no. In the end they finally cancelled and I donated the minimal funds I had in it to their nominated charity. Never Again!
