Review summary

The Gym Kitchen receives a largely negative response from consumers, with many expressing disappointment in the quality and flavor of the meals. Reviewers frequently describe the chicken as bland and dry, with several meals lacking any substantial taste, leading to a perception of low-quality ingredients. Specific complaints highlight the sogginess of dishes like paella and the rubbery texture of chicken, which many find off-putting. However, a minority of customers appreciate the convenience and health aspects of the meals, noting that some options, like the chicken tikka, can be enjoyable when prepared with additional seasoning. Despite a few positive remarks about taste and healthiness, the overwhelming sentiment reflects dissatisfaction with the product quality. Overall, The Gym Kitchen struggles to meet customer expectations.

I bought a product that was rotten

I bought a product that was rotten. Bizarrely when I contacted them, they said they were going to send vouchers and then never did. They said three times they'd send. Like what's the plan here....were you hoping I'd just get bored and go away? A very odd tactic.

Chicken and Mushroom noodles

Absolutely awful and tasteless noodles. These are not even soft and the chicken and mushroom flavouring hardly tastes of anything at all. Do yourself a favour and get something that actually tastes like food rather than rubber.

Tasty low cal value for money meals

Fantastic frozen meal. I tried the frozen range and found the chicken tikka and some others very rich, tasty and satisfying. The food is low in calories (a big plus) and handy with my busy family lifestyle. These meals are enjoyable and value for money.

Thai Green Chicken Curry

Purchased the Thai Green Chicken Curry. The Chicken was dry and chewy. There was no sauce at all, making the brown rice and vegetables, dry and difficult to swallow. Took two or three mouthfuls and put the rest in the bin. Very disappointing.

I have tried a number of Gym Kitchen…

I have tried a number of Gym Kitchen products and but this one has to be the worst. I tried the new product Salt & Pepper Chicken, I will say it has to be the worst meal I have ever tasted, the chicken was as dry and hard as ball bearings. The salt/pepper taste was non existent all I could taste was cloves and cinnamons. Absolutely disgusting. I took 3 mouthfuls then threw the rest in the garbage.

Tasteless and undercooked chicken tikka…

Tasteless and undercooked chicken tikka and Korean beef chilli meals. The meat in both are of poor quality, very chewy and both are full with undercooked lentils although it says it should be only 4% of brown lentils. First time I bought these two meals and I’m surprised this company is still in business reading all the other reviews.

Bought a few of the frozen meals and I'm really disappointed. Today I've just cooked the lasagne ( after a very busy morning) and it is full of lumps of grizzle. The pasta sheets are far too stodgy. It's going in the bin and I will not be buying them again

Hairs in food!!

I bought the Korean beef chilli and found 26 course hairs in the food. They were almost like animal hair, I also found similar hairs in the pasta bolognese. I contacted them and received a reply from Sonia, I sent her the pictures and was offered some vouchers for compensation but nothing arrived. I’ve contacted them twice and both times the said they’ve sent vouchers out as priority but they’ve clearly failed to keep their promise. Moral of the story is, check the minced beef in The Gym Kitchens meals before you devour it, you may just be consuming animal hair! **Gym Kitchen….. Sort your problems out with your customers and your food!

The best chilled ready meals I have found

I really like the chilled meals! I haven't tried the frozen ones as they're not available in ASDA yet. I also haven't tried the noodles. But the chilled meals are great! I understand the ingredients - they use real food - it has lots of veggies, protein and some carbs - balanced!! Far outweighs every other (affordable) ready meal that I have seen so far. Great for me! The sleeve is cardboard and recyclable, too... I put the film in the supermarket plastic recycling and the tray in home plastic recycling. Thanks Gym Kitchen!

Chicken and mushroom noodles.

Chicken and mushroom noodles. It says if you want softer noodles wait extra time. I waited 10 minutes and it was like eating rubberbands come to think about it rubberbands have more flavour.

MOULDY. POOR QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE

Got some of their lentils and cooked it for lunch. Only to open the packet fully and see it looked like rotten cheese, full of mould. Contacted The Gym Kitchen and they offered vouchers but never sent anything. Requested a refund option, but nothing. Absolutely rank. Would not recommend for customer support or food quality.

Pricy and not exciting

I tried a couple of the meals and hated the style, taste, quantity and price Pretty poor compared with Kirsty and others Follow up! Just tried Singapore Noodles and found the chicken and noodles etc to be edible but watery and tasteless Seems to be no attempt to provide the flavours of authentic food styles so resorted to tomato sauce Not being a health freak, I am pleased that I don't have to suffer healthy dishes from choice and can savour the delicious flavours of real food

Tasteless

One of the most tasteless ready meals I have ever eaten. Tried their Korean beef tasted like mincemeat with gravy and lentils Needs spicing up Tried the piri piri chicken severely understated and again no spice at all Good size portions however
