Review summary

The Gym Kitchen receives a largely negative response from consumers, with many expressing disappointment in the quality and flavor of the meals. Reviewers frequently describe the chicken as bland and dry, with several meals lacking any substantial taste, leading to a perception of low-quality ingredients. Specific complaints highlight the sogginess of dishes like paella and the rubbery texture of chicken, which many find off-putting. However, a minority of customers appreciate the convenience and health aspects of the meals, noting that some options, like the chicken tikka, can be enjoyable when prepared with additional seasoning. Despite a few positive remarks about taste and healthiness, the overwhelming sentiment reflects dissatisfaction with the product quality. Overall, The Gym Kitchen struggles to meet customer expectations.

Good tasting and healthy

Som dishes are better than others, but they are all good or very good, salt and pepper chicken is my favourite followed by chicken tikka massala. All have a good amount of protein and veg and are the perfect size

Lots and Lots of salt. Healthy?

Tried the BBQ lentils and they were ok. But 24% of daily salt allowance!! Just tried tika, very poor quality meat and again loaded with salt! "Gym Kitchen", very deceptive name! Bit like " Farmer Browns" fresh eggs that are actually caged up battery hens!

Full of flavour

I’m trying to loose a few pounds through counting calories. I came across these meals. The didn’t look that appealing before being cooked, but once cooked the two meals I’ve had up to now (Paella & chicken tikka massala) have been very filing and full of flavour (and also reasonably priced- paella

Want to give more stars!

I have tried many brands of Protein and Diet meals and alternatives, and nothing comes close to what these guys are doing. I have sampled quite a few of their ready meals, and they're quick, easy, and taste great whilst being filling! I just had a noodle pot from a hectic day, and the chicken and mushroom have great flavour and texture. I hope this company continues to grow and brings out more products! Want to give more stars!

I had Thai Green Chicken Curry (purchased from Tesco). Wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Really tasty and lots of chicken. Often these ready meals don't have much of the meat/veg. Very enjoyable. Would defo buy again.

Bland String

Just tried a Gym Kitchen Pot Noodle ! Makes the original Pot Noodle taste like 3 Michelin Star food ! Literally like eating bland string ! Terrible !! Don’t need protein this much to endure one of these again.

Disgusting!

Disgusting!! Went tescos to get some healthy ready meals, got home, partner asked why did I buy those as they are rank. I'm like no way looks alright! He said well I won't touch them - I got 4. Green Thai- wtf how awful- majority of it is shredded carrot! Wherre did you see carrot in green curry?? Madness. I think I only had a couple of chicken bites as it tastes off, chewy, and just not good. Salt & pepper chicken is even worse - who seasons your food because it seems you it just chuck whatever seasoning on it and make it taste inedible!! Horrible - went to the bin. I'm jist wondering how those are still being sold as surely once you buy it you stay clear of it. DISGUSTING.

I love gym kitchen

I've been eating from the Gym Kitchen range for nearly 2 months now and found everything that I had tried tasty. I wasn't a big fan of the Korean Chilli ready meal, but everything else I've tried I've had again. Their yogurts/puddings are so much nicer than some of the other protein ones I've had. They're thick but not grainy like I found with others from different brands. I've tried 19 of their products (yes, I've kept a list and have just eaten their frozen Tikka Masala) and there's only 1 that I won't have again, and that's the Korean Chilli, but the rest I've had more than once and will be continuing to buy their products as I find no issues with them. I'm giving a 4 star as there are still many products for me to try.

Our first The Gym Kitchen meals

Thought we'd try a couple The Gym Kitchen ready meals. I must admit I found the paella one quite nice, my other half being Colombian thought different Fair play though, they are high in protein, low fat, carbs and sugar and good flavour, but bugger me with a prize winning leek, that's been embedded with razor wire, did it give me the worst wind in living memory, I kept waking myself and my ither half up. She reckons she was momentarily awake 2/3 times an hour. Apparently after one particularly loud one, the kids upstairs stirred. 🤣 I woke up to a cup of tea and all the doors and windows open, coz when she got up she said she felt sick at the smell. She likened it to a tramp having used our bedroom as a toilet. A good product, especially if you like to count the carbs, protein and fat numbers, but if you don't want to sleep in the shed every night, but with the lady you intend to marry, may I suggest going easy on them.

Very bland

Bought the tikka meal and it was very bland there’s no sauce to it all you taste mainly is lentils and the flavours are nothing like tikka. If you would like something which has flavour and tastes like actual chicken tikka then give this one a miss

Gym Kitchen Milk.....saw it in Tesco and thought that it looked healthy. It's vile tasting and so bad that you can taste the additives. Who adds protein to milk? Greedy profiteers snaring the "healthy" brainwashed! Slightly sweet delicious taste? My out of date cheap Tesco full fat tastes a million times better. Avoid this at all costs....ruined my breakfast completely.

The quality is pretty poor

The quality is pretty poor, chicken would have been good for shoe repair. Won’t be buying again. Just found it tasteless. Don’t think it’s a gym meal.

Incredibly low quality

Incredibly low quality. The chicken was bland, chewy, and looked boiled. The meatballs had lumps of gristle throughout which provided a terrible textural experience and was very off putting. If you want a healthy meal, cook one yourself and you’ll get a much higher quality product for much better value. This is very expensive for the product they provide, which was entirely disappointing. The Gym Kitchen perpetuates the sterotype that in order to eat healthily, you have to have meals that are subpar, which isn’t true. I was incredibly disappointed. Save yourself the hassle and go with a different brand if you want a ready meal.

All of the bad reviews are missing the point. These are healthy ready meals without any emulsifiers and additives. It’s the closest thing to real food and a lot cheaper than a lot of food box subscriptions. We need more of this on our shelves! I hope they expand and scale out to all of the supermarkets! I’m really impressed and I actually feel good after eating them.

Not as advertised!

This is a bland overpriced brand . I sent evidence of a noodle product. I bought 4 in total. Opened poured water on item it tasted of cardboard as no chicken and sweetcorn as advertised. Sent pics to gym kitchen . They promised vouchers never got anything so they asked for my bank details for a refund ! This all seems dodgy company ! Never buy !
