It was the excessive cost I had to undertake in getting my property approved to meet the demands of the application process. I had expected to get some ease with finances. Instead I had to spend over $12,000 before I could get approved. I am deeply in debt and do not expect to receive relief for another year because I have to pay back money borrowed to meet the expenses of bringing the property up to the high standards. I got no payout whatsoever to help with the expenses. I was and am stressed at my advanced age of 90.

Overall, it went well, however, I was never told I’d have to pay for a five minute counseling call that cost $155 or the appraisal which was $650!! Why???

My questions were answered, my concerns were addressed and I felt as if I had the necessary information to move forward with my mortgage. My loan originator, Kevin Barba was honest and kind. I found this to be most important during a trying time. I would refer another family member to Kevin. I don't have anything negative to say.

What impressed me most was the clarity with which they explained every step—there was never any pressure, just honest guidance and support. We were very very pleased with the timeliness of returning phone calls and answering all our questions and concerns. The loan process was very fast and that was surprising how quickly we were able to go to closing. We would highly recommend Finance of America to others!!

Danny Dimaina was very patient and helpful in guiding me through the process. The underwriter, however, kept asking for new and different things along the way that created a hardship and stress. If he or she would, in the future, ask for everything at once, that would help a lot. Elderly people go through a lot of stress as it is, and communicating more clearly would help ease that.
