So many additional fees that were not explained when the booking was made. I paid an additional $200 for bs fees.

You need negative stars ratings because NU car rentals is some trash! They are nothing more than scammers off the top. Had a reservation thru Hotwire back in August. Hoteire said it was guaranteed for 24 hrs on the date of the reservation. We arrive in Miami and caught the off site shuttle for rentals. Once we pulled up, I knew it was gonna be some bullshit. First of all it looked like a chop shop , we go inside and the reservation is a virtual rep……….yeah the counter was empty which means they know they are with the shits and don’t want to deal with the customer face to face. Rep comes on and we give reservation number and she says you guys are an 1 and a half late so are reservation is no longer valued. Like wtf, we explained the situation and that hotwire guaranteed a 24 hr reservation on day of rental. The repnthen says at that point they can downgrade or upgrade………they only could upgrade and they only had minivans available. Mind you our rental for 4 days thru them originally was 33 dollars…….she says the minivan is 300 dollars a day…….like what………gtfoh, I was born at night but not last night. We got back in the shuttle and went back to MIA airport and rented a car.
Bait and switch, I booked a car at Toronto Pierson airport via priceline, when I arrived they told me the price doesn't include any, any insurance and required me to pay an additional $30 per day. It was late so I begrudgingly took the car only for a few days to give me time to find another. I returned the car and went to Sixt, got a better car, and saved over $150 for the week.
So many additional fees that were not explained when the booking was made. I paid an additional $200 for bs fees.
Scam disguised under multiple names. Action Car Rental / NU Car Rental will rob you. Avoid at all costs. This company hides behind different names for a reason. My reservation said “NU Car Rental,” but when I got there it turned out to be Action Car Rental. That should’ve been my first red flag. Companies don’t play name-switch games unless they’ve burned enough people that they’re running from their own reputation. At the counter, their agent told me: • $300 refundable deposit • ~$112 for basic insurance • $79.99 for a child seat And that the $300 would be refunded after return. Sounds simple, right? Nope. I was charged $493.54, and after the rental, the “deposit” magically became “insurance.” Now they claim the $300 deposit never existed, even though their own salesperson said it was refundable. Total bait and switch. Trying to contact them afterward is useless. They dodge calls, avoid responsibility, and change their story every time. This place is the poster child for scammy rental operations that prey on travelers who just landed and need a car. If your reservation says “NU Car Rental,” “Action Car Rental,” or anything similar — RUN. This is not a real rental company. This is a trap. Go with Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, or literally anyone else that isn’t hiding behind three different names to trick people.
I have no idea how any renters would give Nu Car Rentals anything but a 5 star review! The cars are SO NICE! Unlike some of the bigger named rental agencies (like Hertz, Budget, Dollar) Nu Car doesn't use the stripped-down models of each car. They have cars with all the bells and whistles- great stereos, cruise control, rear-seat heat/ac, heated sets, all the great stuff! Their people are so nice! They aren't pushy at all with extra things, they find the best available vehicle, they get you in and out quickly, its all just awesome! Rent from these people! (At least in SLC!)
They charged me 4x the original rate because the system put pm in vs am for pickup... I know I did an because the drop-off time was pm and I had to figure out military time to enter it. Also the front headlight was broken. I contacted them twice but they refused to make any adjustment .
At 65 World traveler and this was the worst experience!!! Rented 2 supposed suv's (not received) of site in no ware, 3 1/2 hr shake down. Seriously is this controlled by the mafia? I was so mad was shaking! No live person only monitors, sign and don't see what your signing...and then credit card fraud of multiple charges on credit card... This is a criminal enterprise if ever was one!!! Don't just walk away, run!!!
Remember those companies back in the early 2000s that would give you a screaming deal only to kill you with the fine print?! Well any Rentals shows that “should have read the fine print” policy is alive and well! Booked my rental for $63.63, upon pickup agreed to the typical extra deposit in case of damages, returned the car in exact condition I received it (no scratches, full tank of gas, etc.) and then we charged $172 more! A bunch of fees that were in the small print. I could have gone with a bunch of other major/national rental brands for much less but that’s what I get for trying something “Nu”. Save your money and your headache, rent somewhere else!
I recently rented a car from NU Rent Car and had an extremely disappointing experience regarding toll charges. At pickup, I explicitly informed the attendant that I would use my own SunPass transponder and pay tolls directly. There was no warning about any penalties or administrative fees for doing so. Weeks later, I was shocked to receive a charge of $290.83, which included $25 per toll in “administrative fees” plus capped toll costs—even though tolls were already paid through my personal device. This policy was never clearly explained, and the fees are excessive and punitive. When I raised the issue, the company refused to reconsider or waive any portion of the charges, citing the rental agreement. This demonstrates a lack of transparency, poor customer service, and predatory practices. I strongly advise anyone considering NU Rent Car to avoid this company. Their unclear policies and rigid approach can lead to unfair charges and a frustrating experience.
My wife, her service dog and arrived at Fort Lauderdale Airport on 9-4-25 at 10:45pm. We are both elderly. Nucar closes at 11:30pm. I provided the counter person-Juan, with my full coverage car insurance. We argued with him until 11:15pm that we did NOT want to purchase loss of use insurance. He said, "no initials, then no keys" He had the upper hand, let's see; strange place, elderly, service dog, unnerved and flustered from arguing, closing in fifteen minutes, no refund and car rental already paid for, and a thunderstorm occurring. Look up coercion, duress and intimidation because what happened to us is a classic example! I have read Nu car rentals response from Oswaldo Carri regarding the tactics used to sell "loss of use car insurance" I continue to state that duress, coercion and intimidation were used in "selling" this coverage. Additionally, the "loss of use" coverage is NOT mandated in the state of Florida, it is an OPTIONAL protection OFFERED by rental car companies. Please reconsider your position in this matter.
Do not rent a car from NU Car Rentals in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They are SCAMMERS! They are dishonest & unethical. I rented a car for $83 through Expedia. NU/Easeway ended up charging me $198. Easeway charged me more for CRF than what was on my quote from Expedia & charged me for items that you dont even know what they are because they are abbreviated & the contract is on a small pin pad that you can barely read. I had provided proof of my own insurance but they charged me for PRA, LOU, VTB, etc. If Im not reimbursed for the difference I will go to the Better Business Bureau!
Their car rental AM and PM policy is very delusional because of that they charge me 3 times more than the real price. Really disappointed.
No one should ever use this car rental business again! I purchased a flight/car rental package through Priceline. NÜ car rental in Fort Lauderdale refused to give me the car (that I paid for in advance) unless I purchased insurance through them. I have insurance and provided my insurance card. The agent stated that he could see that I was fully covered but didn't have "loss of use for car rentals" and I would have to pay. I knew this was a lie and realized that this was a scam. I began recording the conversation. It was after midnight and the agent terminated the call because I refused to pay the additional cost. I could not find any information of NÜ's website nor on Priceline's website stating that I had to show proof of "loss of use for car rentals" insurance or I would have to purchase theirs. I was not willing to give this company any more of my money. Luckily my daughter and son-in-law were with me and we were able to take a Lyft to the airbnb. I rented a car from Enterprise later that morning with absolutely no problem, excellent customer service and no proof of insurance. I have never wanted to sue a company for anything. But, this company should be sued for all of the additional costs I had to pay for Lyft and the other car I had to rent. Warning: STOP SHOPPING AT THESE LESS REPUTABLE BUSINESSES!!!
Service was quick and the car was clean. HOWEVER, we were forced to purchase additional insurance even though we didn't need it. We already had coverage from our own car insurance company and our credit card. We even purchased additional insurance from Priceline. We felt scammed because we had to pay an additional $150! Beware--read the small print!!
I dropped off the car 23rd Nov and was told by the attendant that it was “all good”, however I can see i have been deducted for several things from the deposit the next day. A cheeky criminal move when I was told “all good” on drop off, shameful company. I purchased collision damage waver via Expedia which I told the staff at front desk, however they added and charge for the same insurance on collection. I call for update and message with no luck, finally emailed and got a ticket raised with my complaint, if NU car rentals are reading this the ticket number is 318788
I booked a trip for flight + rental car in Nashville, TN through Priceline.com. The rental car was from NU Car Rentals. They were awesome, the shuttle picked us up at the airport, took us to the office where we did a virtual contract signing and off we went in the nice rental car (Nissan Versa). The car was great, we did a lot of driving and spent less than $100 for gas. Returning the car was just as easy and the shuttle got us back to the airport with plenty of time to spare. I like that we didn't have to navigate picking up and dropping off at the airport, their process is so much easier. I would definitely use them again. Thanks for the great car rental experience!
N U Car Rental is by far the worst car rental company I’ve ever dealt with. They operate like a scam. They require you to purchase their insurance, and even if you already have full coverage, they still force a mandatory “rental loss” fee of $128 or more at pickup — a charge you cannot decline. Their location is not at the airport as suggested. It’s actually at 2900 SE 6th Ave, far from the terminal, and if you’re not a local, you’re essentially trapped into accepting their fees, especially during busy travel periods. This rental loss fee is never disclosed during booking on Priceline; it’s completely hidden, which is deceptive because no legitimate rental company charges this type of fee. The only reason their prices appear low is because they make up for it by hitting you with these charges once you arrive. The customer service is extremely rude and disrespectful on top of everything else. This company engages in predatory and unfair business practices, and I’ve reported them for their deceptive tactics. Avoid this company at all costs, or you will end up paying outrageous, unnecessary fees. Also the car they gave me was half empty and had scratches all over the vehicle, when asked to change it they offered a compact car without discount. Worst company ever. I hope they go out of business soon!! This rental company engages in UDAAP by deceiving consumers, failing to disclose fees, and using abusive business practices. These actions fall under Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP) and should be investigated by the appropriate regulatory authorities. Everyone should report them. Please report them to FTC, CPB, & DOT for UDAAP as no other car rental is charging this fees and they should be held accountable for scamming and forcing people to buy it at time of picking up car. Many travelers who booked in advance were forced to buy it when they declined it. This is an illegal tactic. These travelers were visibly upset and felt scammed. No one should take advantage of travelers to make $$$$. This is a Udaap violation.
Stay away from this company if you don’t want to overpay for your rental and avoid any problems and customers’ disrespect.
I never received their services and they billed my credit card as if I picked up a vehicle and put all kinds of insurance. Totaling $655. I tried contacting them via numerous emails and tried calling a couple different phone numbers. Emails bounced back undeliverable and no one ever answered the phone. FRAUDULENT COMPANY!!!
