Review summary

Thameswood Veterinary Clinics receives a mixed response from customers, with a significant number expressing dissatisfaction. While some reviewers commend the compassionate care and professionalism shown by staff, particularly in sensitive situations like end-of-life care, many others report negative experiences. Common complaints include a lack of empathy from certain vets, with specific mentions of a staff member named Nick being described as rough and uncaring. Customers also express frustration over unresolved issues and high fees for services that did not meet their expectations. Despite a few positive experiences highlighting the clinic's caring approach, the overall sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment. Many customers recommend seeking alternatives for veterinary care.

Compassionate and Caring

I transferred my 15.5y year old cat from Vets Klinic to Thameswood due to travel distance and because he was slowly deteriorating with age. I visited twice, my cat was well cared for and checked over thoroughly and an honest review was given. On the third visit my boy was put to sleep, the staff were very empathetic, explained everything and allowed me to spend as much time with him in the garden room to say goodbye. The procedure was straightforward and I felt supported by the staff during this sad time. My boy was sent to be cremated and when I went to collect his ashes, I was given a memory box which was a nice touch. I have since registered my new kitten with Thameswood and I'm hopeful the positive service and care of staff will continue.

An amazing service. Can’t thank you enough.

We took our beloved Cockapoo Teddy as she was not feeling herself at all and has a history of eating anything and everything. She went downhill very quickly and had to visit an out of hours service as well due to it being the weekend. She was operated on there and then transferred back to the Purton Road surgery, where she was kept in for a further five days . I cannot express how amazing the staff have been looking after her. We really thought at one point that we would have no option but to put her to sleep. We felt thoroughly supported all the way through her recovery and they showed so much compassion, love and dedication. An amazingly caring team of people. A very special mention to Tanya. We can never thank you enough. You really were Teddy's guardian Angel. You have an amazing way not only with animals but also people. We’d also like to thank Nick for his knowledge and guidance. Another special mention goes to Jess and Dani and Lizzie (and anyone else we’ve forgotten to mention) who were the most amazing nurses, caring and looking after Teddy. Again we can’t thank you all enough. We will be forever in your debt.

Absolutely shocking no compassion/did not listen/snardy/remarks and nothing was achieved after our appointment. The old guy Nicholas was absolutely shocking! Didn't have a clue what he was talking about/rude/customer service is zero/if my wife wasant there to calm me down I would be in prison right now! Looks like he don't even like animals said about test that they've already done and wouldn't address the issue of her breathing.said she was ok then changed his mind when I challenged him.no interest at all the girls that work there are normally good but will be changing vet immediately absolutely disgusted and I would take it further if I thought it would make a difference!! So annoyed and disgusted that i had to write this review so others don't have the same experience as I did.

I was initially so pleased to have my Ragdoll(insured with pet plan) cat at Thameswood due to the separate cat clinic! The issue was when I brought my new cat Ivy to the practice adopted from Ragdoll Rescue before my pet plan insurance was instated with symptoms of flu! The appointment cost was over £300 which I paid! The vet called 2 days later and was adamant she needed a scan which would have cost close to £1000 and then was pressuring me to agree to expensive injections!!! When I obtained a second opinion from a veterinary surgeon I was disgusted because I was informed that this so called treatment plan was completely unnecessary and inappropriate!!!

A very negative experience for my pet and myself

I have to write a negative review for this vet clinic as my experience was not a positive one and rather weird to say the least. My cat had one slightly ingrown nail and I initially booked a visit to another vet clinic for claw clipping but they called the previous one, Thameswood, and the latter persuaded me to swap back to them which was clearly a mistake. Firstly, the price agreed in another clinic was £20 to clip my cat's claws, I explained the issue and the other place said they would do their best to help being ready to gently take out one slightly ingrown claw as long as it was not infected. Thameswood called straightaway and said they would do it for £35 if we come back due to knowing the history of my cat, not sure why I agreed to this, possibly due to the history situation, but they charged me in the end £50, a consultation price, not the agreed price, so they overcharged me without asking if I agree to this. Secondly, after a 5 minute job of clipping nails the the nurse came out to speak to me in a condescending and patronising tone trying to shame me for overlooking the issue, even saying my cat's paws will be amputated next time which was clearly an exaggeration and was not appreciated or was necessary as I came in to a vet clinic for a reason and expected a professional service which I could have done myself should my cat not bite or scratch during the process (she is also not a fan of claw clipping). Thirdly, my cat was infected with fleas after the visit as she started to lick and scratch straight after we visited the clinic, so this place is not disinfected for this issue and now I have another issue to deal with at home. Overall, a rather unprofessional and overpriced service and no customer satisfaction nor for the owner, nor for the cat as she has fleas now. I do hope that the manager will take notice of this feedback and take necessary measures to avoid such dissatisfaction and problems for the pets and owners going forward as it is not nice to be treated like that. I would demand a refund or sue if the issue was bigger..

Awful vets

Awful vets, took my cat who was still actively moving about on Monday they were meant to operate on him and did not. still charged £400 he came back a different animal and only survived for two more days in which they kept sucking out money. they only care about your money, not your animal.

AVOID!

AVOID!! The owner NICK never showed one ounce of compassion or empathy when caring for my sick cat. NICK is VERY BAD at handing the animals! Very rough and not kind. The way he treated my cat was awful! He just wanted my money!! He didnt inform me about anything, I would ask questions out of concern for my sick cat and he responded bluntly in wood one answers! The atmosphere in there was terrible and you could cut it with a knife. NICK is a very cold, uncaring, smug, unqualified I'd say, poor excuse for a vet. The desk staff are miserable and unfriendly. The pricing was constantly wrong each time despite ordering the same medication! They seem to make it up as they go along and then look shocked when I query the huge price increase from previous! They charged me £18!!! Just to make one phone call to source medication!! They ran up a humongous bill in the space of 3 days! Totally ripped me off. Transferred back to my vets in Ciren who confirmed it as said there is no way we would charge that! My vets in Ciren is extremely caring and fantastic with the animals.

WORST VETS EVER

WORST VETS EVER. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I have no idea where to start with this review. Our two dogs were taken there to be spayed only to find out they were never spayed at all! We brought them home after the 'surgery' and within a few months they were showing signs of being in season. We took them back and were told on numerous occasions that they couldn't possibly be in season. After finally persuading them to do a urine sample it showed they were in fact in season again! They completed the surgery again to find out that they had messed up the surgery not just once but on both of my dogs at different times!! Nick then refuses to take any responsibility and has no care in the world for them or you as the owner. We then booked a trip to Paris after being told what we would need to do to be able to take the dogs and we followed their instructions and booked them into the vets at the right times etc. Only to attend the appointment a few days before for their health checks to be told they are missing a jab they never told us about and therefore we can't go on our holiday and will be losing out on a lot of money. Again no sympathy from Nick who may aswell have laughed at us he was so smug about it. We have now moved vets as we cannot stand how incompetent they all are. I'm shocked they can even call themselves a vets as I'm sure noone there is even trained in anything!

Very poor experience in Swindon after previous positive ones unfortunately, will now be moving to a new vet for any future appointments. Very surly vet with zero empathy charged us a double consult fee despite at time of booking being assured only one fee payable - was for repeat prescriptions only with outrageous cost of meds -15m vist £312 . Refused to clean our dogs ears too, avoid!

Caring, compassionate and professional

We recently had our dog treated at Thameswood Vets in Purton Road for a serious infection and the latter stages of chronic kidney disease. The care and compassion shown by all of the staff was heart warming. They really listened, checked medical history thoroughly and were competent and professional throughout Ozzie's time with them. They were honest about his future and when it came to making the decision to let him go, their care and support was so appreciated. He was laid to rest whilst we cuddled him in their tranquil garden and we said our good byes. They were so kind and the after care was also brilliant. Sending us a hand written sympathy card and providing us with a memory box was very special. We got to know the lovely staff and felt that they took a real interest in Ozzie. To name a few, Matheus, Tanya, Jhonny and Charlotte. To Nick and Giovanna, you have a great team of people. We have not always had that experience in other Practices and are well aware of what good service feels like. Thank you all so much.
