Spitfire is quite good and quite questionable as most people already know. They're simply "quite". To illustrate I own quite a few of their products and one of them is Solo Strings. While purchasing Spitfire Symphonic Orchestra where an updated version of the same Solo Strings is included there's no discount, and the old Solo Strings that is quite pricey hasn't been updated with the same programming to my knowledge. That kind of illustrates the point, they're shamelessly greedy. Another instance that illustrates their questionable business is the Abbey Road libraries. I own all of Abbey Road One and it's honestly really quite good. The sound is the highlight and since there's no advanced programming it works really well too. But do they build on the Abbey Road One library for their Abbey Road Premium collection, no ofc it's a separate and completely new one. So I've invested in a limited light version. Anyways, Abbey Road One is still great and that's the thing, they DO make quite good stuff but it's more product specific where they fall short in quality. It's definitely not the sound, it's the programming. In Spitfire Symphonic Orchestra the legatos are simply acting weird and sound really unnatural. It's a real shame because it's so obvious that it must be something they just simply ignore in promo materials and just don't fix. Weird stuff is constantly happening with what samples are triggered and for the performance patches specifically I'v found them to produce really unnatural sounds where the room sound doesn't seem to match the close mics or something. It's like super weird and dramatic tails of certain sounds that doesn't match the attack or note length or intensity So it sounds great and I expect there's many workarounds I'll figure out along the way and the performance patches is a good idea but they're simply not well programmed. Lots of complaining but three stars. Well, they do sound great and while the legatos aren't anywhere close to something like Cinematic Studio Strings or any of their libraries there's a lot more than just performance patches. And I honestly think they should focus more on simple legato patches rather than their "performance" versions since they do work well in Abbey Road One that doens't have performance patches and they work pretty much as expected. Especially the legatos on the "thematic horns" sounds ..honestly amazing and are also really easy to record with minimal adjustments needed to the midi. And I feel every issue I have can be boiled down to priorities, put the product before maximum profit and focus more on usability rather than buzzwordy "performance patches" that only really makes for impressive walkthroughs when played carefully.
