Review summary

Reviewers express significant dissatisfaction with Gym Plus Ireland, highlighting a range of issues that detract from the overall experience. While some customers note that the gym is clean and has a decent range of machines, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about membership practices and poor customer service. Many people feel misled by the membership contract, citing a lack of discounts and a frustrating notice period for cancellations. Additionally, issues such as ineffective saunas and unresponsive staff further contribute to a negative atmosphere. The experience of leaving the gym is particularly criticized, with reports of inadequate support from management. Overall, the sentiment is overwhelmingly negative, reflecting deep frustration among consumers.

Gym missing Essentials 😑

Not sure if franchise owners know what goes on in gym. Sauna ineffective, Jacuzzi off- when asked after 20 minutes of waiting response was no idea. No manager on site to speak to when asked questions... See more

Gym missing Essentials 😑

Not sure if franchise owners know what goes on in gym. Sauna ineffective, Jacuzzi off- when asked after 20 minutes of waiting response was no idea. No manager on site to speak to when asked questions, Branded as rude when ask for services not working. Manager rings as follow up and advises it take 20 minutes for jacuzzi to reset cycle every time.. REEEAAALLLLYYY. Gym opens door and hope for best rather they should check things working properly. Go to gym to work out and relax and move on , not to chase equipments and facilities. Music - there is no buzz in music on floor too. Busy place but no focus on providing good atmosphere.

Machine hogging

I'm a couple of months into my membership. I find it extremely frustrating to see other members sitting on machines without using them, either "doomscrolling" on their phones or having a full on chat with a friend. I don't understand why the "instructors" don't do anything to gently remind clients not to hog the machines. Nearly every day I'm there, this is a regular feature. Management need to improve this situation and actively intervene.

Training kit thrown out by GymPlus Rathfarnham

I joined GymPlus in Nutgrove over a year ago and I found the Gym to be good and didn’t have any issues. Unfortunately I hurt my back and couldn’t attend the Gym but I continued to pay my subscription. In December 2024 I called into the gym and placed my gym kit in the locker as I intended to return to the gym the following day. Due to unforeseen circumstances I did not attend the gym over the following few weeks and I called back in February to find the locker that I had placed my training kit had been broken into by the staff of GymPlus. I fully understand that lockers are not owned by any member and that they are only to be used when one attends the gym. GymPlus threw all my gym kit out and I have asked the Manager Frank in Nutgrove to send me photos of where the signs are located confirming that one’s training kit would be thrown out if not claimed within a certain time. I have no issue if the signs are clearly displayed but I never saw any signs and I would have thought they would be clearly visible. I had a brand new pair of ASICS trainers along with my Fit Bit watch, training gear, good quality bag and a diary with all my personal details however GymPlus disposed of it all without contacting me. I would totally understand it being thrown out if it smelt but it was clean and never used. GymPlus in Nutgrove refuse to converse with me and all I want to know is where the signs are located confirming that if you leave your training gear in your locker and it’s not claimed over a certain amount of time then it will be thrown out. I think it’s a very genuine query and why they won’t respond beggars belief. I would have thought they would hold onto one’s bag in storage for a minimum of two months but seemingly not.

Terrible Leaving Experience

The Gym itself is a pretty standard gym, clean and decent range of machines. Nothing particularly above standard though. The problem comes when you want to leave the gym. I got offered a new job and moved company's and location, so I requested to cancel my Gym membership as I was already commuting somewhere else. I was told I would have to pay for another 2 months of membership. Absolutely appalling way to do business. Expect a 2 month grace period after you have notified the gym that you want to cancel your membership.

They shouldn't trick people into…

They shouldn't trick people into signing a membership contract for no discount when they can pay in cash. There's also a one month's notice you have to give even after your commitment expires, for cancellation. I ended up paying two months of membership for a gym I'm not going to, due to relocation and this insane advance notice.
