Jucy Condo in North Island
Jucy Condo in North Island
Summary: We had a Jucy Condo for 2 weeks for 2 people, with pick-up from Auckland airport and drop-off at Wellington airport. The vehicle was fine, but the service was disorganised and rushed, and Jucy didn't appear to provide real duty of care to make sure that the customer was well-equipped to use the vehicle. Our Toyota Hiace also appeared to be a bit older and was missing the Self-contained sticker at the rear door (so we got woken up by council staff asking for certification papers late at night), had a leaking skylight, which was annoying, and they forgot our chairs. Just make sure you read up on NZ freedom camping laws and ask questions during the vehicle pick-up, don't assume that Jucy will take care of everything.
Pros:
No mechanical issues - the Toyota Hiace was fine during our 3000km journey over 2 weeks.
Pretty efficient use of space inside the vehicle - good for 2 people, but would be very squeezy for 4 adults (advertised as sleeping 4)
Vehicle, kitchen supplies and bedding were all clean.
Cons:
No self-contained sticker provided for our Jucy Condo campervan on the rear door, which meant we were woken late at night by council staff and forced to show the detailed permit on paper and our ID while freedom camping in an approved area, otherwise they threatened to fine us or make us move on immediately. Other identical Jucy campers on the road had this sticker.
Did not explain how to use the vehicle at all, including greywater system or toilet unless prompted, gave little information on gear included in the camper (e.g. kitchen items, charging of electrical devices, where things were located within the van) - we were able to solve most issues afterwards pretty quickly, but the lack of information meant that our chairs were missed by Jucy
Did not provide us with the chairs we'd paid for and were not given a chance at handover to ask for a refund
Skylight leaked during rain, wetting the rear seats and our bags
No handover process at the vehicle drop-off - attendant rushed us into the airport van, was generally rude and distracted, which was stressful as we didn't get to double check our possessions prior to leaving the vehicle
No spare oil or coolant was provided - the lady at check-in told us that this wasn't necessary as they were checked between rentals, but to be honest, if you're renting it for weeks and driving thousands of kilometers, you want the reassurance that you can check and top up the oil and coolant as required.
