Review summary

Reviewers express significant dissatisfaction with Web Hosting Talk, primarily citing issues with the site's moderators and the integrity of the information shared. While a few users note that the forum can be a good source for finding deals and reputable hosting companies, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about the moderators' behavior. Many customers describe the moderators as "ignorant" and "toxic," alleging that they protect advertisers at the expense of honest feedback. Instances of users being banned for sharing negative experiences or opinions are frequently mentioned, leading to a perception of censorship and bias. Overall, while some find value in the community for deals, the overwhelming sentiment reflects frustration with the moderation practices and the reliability of the information provided. The prevailing view is decidedly negative.

Extremely ignorant and toxic moderators

I've had a disappointing experience with the moderators on Web Hosting Talk. In recent months, I've been exercising my rights under the CCPA's Right To Be Forgotten, requesting various vendors to stop selling my personal information and to remove it from online visibility, especially on Google Search. I used to use my personal name as part of my username when I first started using online message boards/forums. I was not educated on best practices for online usernames and the implications of using your personal name. However, over the last 6 months, I have successfully rmoved personal details removed from over 20 websites / vendors without any complications until now. I recently hit a roadblock on with this particular website not able to edit a post that contained sensitive information. +17 years ago I did not fully understand the implications of using your real name online and how it can be discoverable. Long time ago, included my personal email in a forum post and just recently reported it, asking the moderators to modify the post. However, my request was flatly refused. One moderator, in particular, known as "bear," displayed a lack of understanding and regard for GDPR and CCPA regulations, which are crucial for residents in the EU and California. Their policy on content modification appears inflexible. Despite my efforts to explain, they refused to amend a post that's over two decades old, which includes my name. This refusal came without any clear reasoning, especially since my name doesn't carry significant SEO implications. It seems their stance is more about being obstinate rather than adhering to any business or ethical standards. Moreover, there seems to be no policy or rule on their forum that explicitly prevents editing of posts. Yet, I find myself unable to edit a 17-year-old post that contains my personal information and shows up in search results. I advise caution with this website. Their customer service has been incredibly toxic and unhelpful, making it one of the worst experiences I've ever encountered.

My Disheartening Experience with "Andy aka Postbox"

As a longtime member of webhostingtalk.com, I am compelled to share the distressing and deeply unfair treatment I experienced at the hands of Andy aka 'Postbox', which has left me profoundly disillusioned. Throughout my interactions, it became increasingly clear that I was not just dealing with a community leader's standard moderation, but rather, I seemed to be the target of personal biases and possibly unresolved grievances on Andy's part. The hostility and dismissiveness I faced were disproportionate and unwarranted, casting a shadow over my years of positive engagement with the forum. The communication from Andy was not only condescending and disrespectful but also hinted at a deeper personal vendetta rather than an objective or professional approach. Being unjustly compared to a criminal, without any reasonable opportunity to defend myself or clarify my position, was both shocking and deeply offensive. This experience has led me to believe that I may have become an unwitting victim of Andy's personal issues, which have no place in the management of a professional forum. It raises serious concerns about the integrity and impartiality of the forum's leadership. In sharing this, my hope is that it highlights the critical need for fair and unbiased treatment in forum management. A community leader's personal vendettas should never cloud their judgment or lead to the mistreatment of members who have long contributed positively to the forum. Sincerely,
