First time for me! Visited this location to meet with my daughter and her fiancée. First impression was that the restaurant was cold and draughty. Initially we ordered drinks mine was a zero Beer, when our drinks arrived, I saw that my beer was a 5% alcohol beer ( I don’t drink and I was driving) for me this could have been serious as I have a heart condition! We ordered our food and when it arrived I felt that the crockery and it was stone cold. So subsequently the food was just tepid. I paid £19 for burger and fries and to be frank, I’ve had better at Franky and Benny’s! One thing I forgot to mention, when we initially sat down, our cutlery was stuck to the table! I don’t know what cleansers they use but the table needs to be dry before staff set the tables. I personally wouldn’t visit this restaurant again after spending £175:00 for lunch, I feel I have been robbed.
VICTORS Hale We travelled over an hour to get to Victor's Hale as it was the Lunch choice of the "Birthday Girl". The service was OK, it wasn't busy, but we had to wait to order drinks. I had the Steak Sandwich and chips. It looks so unappetising, with two smallish rounds of dry toast with a thin layer of beef inside, cut in half with sticks in to keep it together..... not required. And a hand full of fries in a container. There was absolutely no finesse in the presentation, not a lettuce leaf, not even a slice of cucumber! Not to spoil the day, I said nothing. Another annoying thing is that we were charged for our 18mth old granddaughter's food. I found out that food was free for children Mon-Fri via an email sent by Victors after our visit. I checked on the website and it stated the same. My daughter email them stating our findings - their answer...... nothing, we are still waiting months later! Not impressed, so we won't be going again! Unfortunately you can't upload photos on here.
Victors Alderley - great staff, amazing food.
We booked an igloo on 19th October as two of us were celebrating 30th Birthdays however we got a call earlier in the day that our reservation that you were unable to accommodate the allergies request which I think was too short notice since we booked the table so far in advance. Luckily the person with allergy issues doesn't have a severe reaction and we chose items that didn't contain soy. We were also told we could only have either vegetarian or meat option not 1 or the other even though there was 4 of us. As we had 2 vegetarians, we obviously all had opted to have this menu despite the amount of cheese listed on the menu as the other 2 don't like cheese! The igloo wasn't ready until after 2.15 which is fine but we were still waiting for service at almost 2.50pm. Our afternoon tea was served where we only received 3 out of the 4 listed sandwich options and when we mentioned that we missed 1 lot of sandwiches (Fig) we were presented with 1 single finger sandwich. Our Hazelnut and chocolate cookie contained no chocolate or Hazelnut (these were scattered over a plate instead) and were rock hard and overcooked along with the overcooked scones. We ordered our tea which was then served to us incorrectly and had to be remade. There were several conversations happening around our igloo between staff that which made us feel very comfortable. We didn't pay service charge as we feel as a whole we didn't experience a great time especially as it was for birthday celebrations. We did tip a smaller cash tip to our main server as she knew there was issues but tried to help the best she can and was very apologetic. The whole bill was £168 and just feel that it was an expensive experience.
Would not even give a single star. We were treated appallingly at Oxford. This was meant to be a lovely birthday meal and we thought we would try somewhere new and different to our normal places. Upon arrival the ‘front of house’ barely greeted us didn’t say much at all but confirmed name and that this was a birthday meal. Was told to wait a few minutes then taken to a table. Table was booked for 7:15 we sat down around 20 past. No one came to talk any order not even drinks for 15 minutes. Then when someone did come over we thought okay it’s busy we understand. We then waited again 15 or so minutes for the mains to come out. Half way through eating my main (no starter) we was told we would have 25 minutes to finish pay and leave and if we wanted desserts to order there and then. First off we wasn’t aware of this 1.5 hr limit on a table for 2 it does not specify this anywhere whatsoever but we waited around 20/25 of our ‘timeslot’ to be seated and initially served. Giving us an hour to sit and enjoy our food. Giving timings we was certainly rushed and didn’t bother ordering deserts. We asked to speak to the manager as this was a birthday meal and on booking the table we notified then it was an occasion. The website stated “birthdays at victors is magical” and that a birthday celebratory plate would be prepared yet we was rushed and then asked to leave because they needed the table. The manager then comes over to ask what the issue was and then goes back to the till to get timings and to be petty comes back and says it took 12 minutes for a waiter to come over from being seated. He then proceeded to argue his point that there’s a time limit on the table etc but didn’t get our point of it’s a birthday meal that was ruined by being rushed out with no “plate” yet 3/4 other customers got there’s and they were there before we arrived and was there when we left so this rule of a time limit was a load of crap. He didn’t like what we was saying told us to leave and then walked off. All interest was on a large hen party who kept shouting and screaming across the entire establishment. We wouldn’t have minded the time limit if we was seated and served with appropriate timings and was able to sit and enjoy a desert afterwards but clearly the limit and needing the table for someone else was more important. It’s all money and no customer service. AVOID!!
I went and had a fabulous meal here in the Oxford restaurant, best fillet steak i've had in a long time!
Our first visit to Victors restaurant Oxford with my husband. My mussels arrived, most of them were not cooked, therefore not open, sourdough stale, placed in dish with mussels on top, had to return to bar, by than my husbands dish was eaten. My new plate of mussels arrived. With hardly any sauce in the dish plus a skimpy amount of mussels, a thin slice of stale bread on top. Not impressed!!! No apology at the table, just placed in front of me. Not an enjoyable experience. Front of house staff and staff generally had no customer service skills what so ever. Service very poor, food presentation and meal below standard. A very disappointing experience. I would not recommend this restaurant. Mags. Henley.
Why Escalate a problem when you can solve it? Poor service in Oxford It was my friends birthday and we made a trip from London to Oxford to celebrate. We asked to move seat as we were too close to the singer-it was no problem. We thank the gentleman with the long nails. So helpful. I like to get the name of my server, ours was Poppy. We had the roast lovely meal -no problem I made a bday booking and no bday firework came to our table, so I discretly reminded Poppy - no problem The bday plate came along without a cake and it looked lonely. So we requested a cake (there was no issue paying for what we wanted). However, another waitress informed Poppy infront of my party (apparently Poppy was new) that there was a fee for the cake and we were not to have it for free. The conversation was unneeded and we had not requested anything for free. We just wanted a cake, not details of other clients expecting freebies I had no understanding why a waitresses who had not served us, proceeded to intervene when we had made a simple request I removed myself from my table and raised my concern with the unwelcome waitress (no name). She was hostile, rude and curt. Adding further insult to injury. I requested a manager and was met with a man presumably from the backoffice who I had not seen on the shop floor. He did not deescalate the situation and it was clear he had chosen to be on the side of his staff. He did nothing to remedy, offered a token apology for my feelings of disappointment and offered no good will gestures. Ultimately my efforts to celebrate my friends 47th bday have been tarnished by a hostile experience. That I believe was so unnecessary. I thought I had done everything right. 1. I had alerted staff to the bday when I arrived 2. I had registered a bday on my booking. 3. The bday was forgotten and that's fine. Things do happen. But the way my compliant was handled. The energy of the manager who was determined to honour his staff rather than remedy the situation was shocking. I don't need to hear stories of clients trying to get a free bday cakes. I don't care. I just want to have a positive, memorable experience with my dear friend. What we experienced was very saddening and my pictures are left with sad undertones. Great food. But between the manager and waitress ( whose names I don't have) rather upsetting and downright appalling
Newcastle; Style over substance! A nice looking restaurant but the quality, quantity and disappointing value for money badly let it down. The menu looked promising but failed to deliver with small portions and average quality considering the cost. 2 of 3 desserts weren’t good at all. Within a couple of hours we were all hungry again.
FIrst impression was of a lovely ombiance and setting. The actual food we had was good. However having previewed the menu and decided what we would order, only to be told that several dishes of choice were not available. Service was fine and we had an enjoyable afternoon. However that bit of magic was missing and we won't be rushing back.
Very geodie Shaw not much substance food was ok thought I’d been served a starter £28 for macaroni cheese lobster bits steak was good came with nothing on the side very over priced must be catering for one off visits. Staff not great took three attempts to advise on wine
Newcastle. Waited 30 mins for our table which we had booked, not even offered a drink. Waited 1 hour 30 mins for our food to come to our table. Not ideal on an evening with 3 children. The steak was just a steak, nothing else, not even a lettuce leaf. My husband ordered a side of mash which we were told had cashew nuts, as he is alergic to them he was assured they will do it without, then after much suspense it arrived to the table with cashew nuts! Childrens meal burnt burger, very poor. Very expensive had to feed the children when we got home. Never going back. Sat in a cold conservatory with our coats on. If there was a choice to give it a 0 star i would! After reading the reviews (wish i had done this prior to wasting so much money) the restaurant clearly is not learning from the feedback.
We visited on the 20th March around 1.30 on a trip to Oxford for out 25th Wedding Anniversary, the lady that greeted us was pleasant and took us to our table, the lady that served us gave us the impression she didn’t really want to be there, there was no customer service! The meal was pleasant enough! but wouldn’t rush back!
Shocking, absolutely shocking!!!!!! My daughter booked for sunday lunch, months prior as we had tickets for the theatre, before we realised it was mothers day. 4.30 booking, we were early so had 2 lots of drinks at the bar......yes it took that long to get seated. We waited and waited, no offer of drinks.........we had pre ordered our food as suggested. 30 minutes later we got our meals. My roast beef was still mooing.....I like mine medium rare, the fat was still bloody😱 My daughters half chicken was a boneless leg and a wing, ...thats not half a chicken!!! 2 roasties, 2 stems of temderstem and something else unrecognisable as veg. Don't take bookings if you can't fulfill them! I complained and was asked.what I wanted to do. We left without eating as we sent the meals back. I only gave 2 stars as the bar service was good and the cocktails nice if VERY EXPENSIVE. Avoid at all costs.
Really let down and disappointed. Very poor in catering for allergens.
Beyond the decor and clean toilets, this place has nothing more to offer! The food is poor especially for the prices they are charging; I ordered my go to burger and when I asked it to be cooked in a certain way and I was told I could only get it well done, it led me to believe it was a frozen. Anyway, on getting the burger I felt it could have been from the local chippy by the way it looked and tasted. My sister-in-law ordered the lobster mac n’cheese, which looked like an overdone tuna bake. Disappointing! If the food offering was better, this place could have so much potential.
Terrible experience last night, quality of the food has dropped off a cliff. We’ve always liked the crab nachos starter but now it’s just tasteless mush and the tomahawk was just ok, the side’s arrived 6 mins after the main. The staff seem nice but not trained very well and under a lot of stress with it being so busy. Both tables beside us complain about service and quality of the food, must be a nightmare to work there.
Victors Newcastle We had been before and it was ok so thought we would try again. Very disappointing! We were told our main of Tomahawk Steak ‘would take a while to prepare’ so we had to order a pointless overpriced starter of Bread and Butter. The £80 Tomahawk Steak for 2 was full of fat (I know Ribeye is fatty but this was too much), tiny portion of Fries and small portion of Mac n Cheese. They only had 1 source we requested so had to have 2 the same. Food was ok. Waiting staff are pushy and asked if they could get us another bottle of wine, we said ok but then half way through the bottle someone came over an stated we had to leave in 15mins as they needed the table back. AFTER WE WAITED 20mins FOR OUR FOOD TO ARRIVE! I get that but why get us to order another £30 bottle of mediocre wine just to ask us to leave? (Why not say ‘would you mind moving to the seated Bar area with your drinks’ horrific! Couple next table sharing every course and 1 bottle of wine left to crack on with a lesser bill? Very typical of young waiting staff/ students in restaurants who do not care as it’s not their business. Waiying staff walking round in Blue Jeans and scruffy white trainers?! For some reason there was a ‘DJ’ playing House music?! Not what you fancy having an overpriced meal with the family, I did not know if I wanted a dessert or a line and dance?!! I dont think this place knows what it wants to be. We will not be back. So they’ve saved me £150-£180 per visit. If you do go for the ‘image’ take loads of photos for social media and never go back.
