Just too hopelessly pretentious
Trebuchet magazine is a quality product in every sense from the paper it's printed on to the contents on the pages. Articles are well written and insightful and illustrated imaginatively. Advertisements are not overly intrusive and don't detract from the overall experience.
brilliant magazine. beautifully made and laid out. great pictures. very pleased.
I’m a painter. I’m always interested in hearing what painters have to say.
Trebuchet arrived just in time for my vacation! Great content and showcase of art! Thank you
I found Trebuchet online while researching for my research journal. As a student in my final years of degree in visual arts this is a great resource. Good website with a good search engine and easy access to download specific issues.
Shipped well, Very nice quality magazine. Will make more purchases for my friends.
Great Magazine
A very well put together magazine and from an artist's point of view glad to to see the emphasis on what matters - the visuals!
A beautiful magazine, delivered incredibly quickly with a brilliant subscription gift.
I was very satisfied with the quality and delivery of the magazine. I am enjoying reading the articles. Great content!
Lovely magazine, great service from the publisher.
Trebuchet is the machine that throws large rocks at castle walls and is something the art world always needs. Loved the quality of the magazine and the writing - anything about Gerhard Richter (my favourite rock thrower) gets my attention but I enjoyed other articles as well and the visual and physical qualities of this magazine.
Having read through this magazine I admit t being perplexed as to what the editor is trying to achieve. I found texts were confusing, they were without measured cohesiveness and misleading statements given as authoritative. I make a small example of the section reference to Numbers (page 122) . Firstly, I make issue that Numbers are Not Material and that they are an abstract. On Page 127, the writer makes a statement, "Perception...out reaches sensation" (with ref to figure 4.) I respond saying that the theory of body is already a theory of perception (ref Maurice Merleau Ponty- The Phenomonology of Perception) Merlaeu Ponty also speaks of "double sensations" (ref p.106) The writer goes on to reference Kant where he attempts to speak abut aesthetic pleasure - this whole paragraph is simply full of Kantian reference to aesthetic judgement and little to mathematics and number. He then goes straight onto write about painting and representational art in relationship to Kantian thinking. The writing is in my opinion simply incoherent..What are you trying to say? Then their is a throw away phrase, "What then are we to make of abstraction?".in my view a throw away phrase with little thought attached. If the writer did exercise more in depth thinking he/she would see that Kant does in fact put forward a structure of the mind which he argued to be necessary a priori requirement for cognition, or experience of the world of objects. (ref Kants Critique of Pure Reason argument s38) There are already set standards for each painting set by the artist and a diversity of clues that allow the viewer not only to see into the picture but what it represents. Dear Editor/Writer, I wish you would clearly follow up statements you make in your articles. I would like to reference Barthes when he say's that, " text is a tissue of quotations drawn from innumerable centres and entering into mutual relations of dialogue, parody, contestation- but there is one place where this multiplicity is focused and that is with the reader". On this note I make closure here. Of course this review is simply in my opinion and all is opinion. Kind Regards - a reader.
Great content, superb design both online and print - well done It's clearly my favourite visual art and culture platform.
Trebuchet is accessible and real with substantial relevant quality articles .
This magazine (printed journal) available in select shops & Waterstones, is a joy to hold, no ( or not that I notice ) advertising .. smaller than A4 its a great size for travel ( for when I used to take trains (!) ) quality colour printing and above all I get to immerse in fresh contemporary Fine artist painters and trans-disciplinary artists side by side.. living now ! Fast digital delivery for back issues if you have missed any, and fantastic content, design and editing.
Trebuchet is a terrific introduction to art and artists, concentrating on different aspects with each edition. It is very well produced with beautiful photographs and detailed analysis of the works under discussion. It is clearly the work of people who are passionate about art and proud of what they make. I really cannot recommend it higher. Trebuchet is wonderful.
Once again the magazine arrived from across the globe in excellent time. A great read on an interesting and provocative topic (Trebuchet #6 - "Time and Space"). Well done Trebuchet! I'm looking forward to issue#9.
