Smith And Wesson 642 Reviews

You really can't go wrong with Smith & Wesson's reputation. The 642 lives up to expectations with smooth operation and solid construction. Finish has held up well after hundreds of rounds.

At 15 ounces, this thing is incredibly light for daily carry. The aluminum frame keeps weight down without sacrificing durability. Recoil is snappy with +P rounds but manageable.

Solid revolver that goes bang every time. The double-action trigger is quite heavy though, which affects accuracy for new shooters. Great build quality as expected from S&W.

If you know how to handle a double-action revolver, this is a fantastic choice. The lack of external hammer eliminates snag issues, and the gun has never failed me. Trigger smoothed out nicely after about 200 rounds. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a quality concealed carry revolver.

Use this as my backup piece and it's perfect for that role. Small, light, and utterly reliable. The .38 Special is adequate for personal protection.

Love this little revolver! Disappears in a pocket holster and never fails to fire. The sights are basic but adequate for close range defensive use.

Bought this as my first revolver and while the quality is there, I wish I had started with something easier to shoot accurately. The trigger pull is long and heavy, making precise shots challenging. It's definitely reliable though, and I appreciate the simplicity of a revolver. After some practice at the range, I'm getting more comfortable with it.

For what you pay, you get a reliable defensive firearm from a respected manufacturer. It's not fancy but it works when you need it to. The trigger will smooth out with use and dry fire practice.

The 642 has been my daily carry for over two years now. Lightweight, reliable, and the lack of an external hammer makes it perfect for pocket carry. The trigger is smooth after break-in period. Only minor complaint is the grip can be a bit small for larger hands, but nothing aftermarket grips can't fix.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Simple, reliable, and well-built. The grip texture could be more aggressive for better control during rapid fire.

While the gun is well-made and reliable, I struggle to shoot it accurately beyond 10 yards. The heavy trigger and small sights make precision difficult. Maybe it's just not the right fit for me.

The gun functions well and feels solid, but that trigger pull is really something you have to work with. It's consistent but heavy. For the price point, I expected a bit more refinement in the action.
