Abysmal staff!! Frustrating service!!

A year of phoning to talk to the most frustrating, infuriating people, nobody seems to have a clue what they are doing, there is no actual person above customer service to talk too, no other number or email.. Over a year of waiting for my tax rebate.. sent a letter of complaint-not recieved, 2 letters about my tax rebate - not recieved, its like the twilight zone!!!! When you do phone your talking to some tedious annoying automated service for ten minutes, then sometimes an hour before you get through.. joke!! Seriously HMRC.. sort it out!! All of it..

I am a carer then got a letter from HM…

I am a carer then got a letter from HM Revenue & Customs in my name only on the Envelope and forms that stated I owned a company and I should fill in the forms about the vehicles, and expenditure, profits, losses, I incured, I dont drive I use the coach, have worked for 20years as a carer, have held 3 jobs at one time never ever claimed benefits not even when I was poorly and not being able to go to work, I managed ,now this Letter is giving me sleepless nights, am at work hardly eating, and am wondering is the letter for real or what ? I am in a permanent place of work and have been paying taxes since 2024 when I started as bank staff and worked my way up to being full time, I paid a £100.00 fine for when I was self employed, explained that my situation has since changed, am wondering where they get all the information about me having a company, maybe using hoists, and moving my client in her wheelchair is classified as vehicle that I drive, I use slings and standing hoists, moh lifts, moving belts that is what I use in my type of work, Who gives out all the information because I had to send the form back telling them everything I have written here, Am so sick and tired thank God will be retiring in 2 years time am on fed up with everything being pushed on us who work our socks off and have never ever asked benefits I would go to a food bank if I was hard up but that was only once when I was ill for 5 weeks.

HMRC: 10 Years, No Job, No Refund – Just Lies and Excuses

Was owed an £800 tax refund. HMRC refused it, claiming I didn’t submit a tax return in 2015 — nearly 10 years ago — even though I didn’t even work that year. No job, no income, nothing to declare. What exactly was I meant to file — a blank sheet? Now they’re axing fuel allowances for disabled people while MPs swan around with multiple homes, chauffeurs, and gold-plated pensions. There are more disabled people being born than ever, yet the help’s vanishing — but the luxury perks for politicians just keep growing. This system isn’t broken. It’s bent. Bent as a nine bob note. HMRC and the government are running a legal scam with a straight face.

Beyond awful

Have been waiting for a refund for over a month. Everyone I have spoken to has said this would be done to no avail. Have spent hours on the phone trying to get through 1st advisor said they would raise a chq, never received. 2nd advisor said they would raise a BACS payment, never received. Called today, waited an hour 10mins, advisor was not interested in the ref number I had, put me on hold, then line went dead. Appreciate its almost end of tax year but really the service is appalling, after a month still waiting for refund and I am £670,25 out of pocket......absolutely at the end of my tether. They appear to be answerable to no-one. Who are they answerable to ? I am a taxpayer and expect a better service than this. Rubbish, take note Labour !!

Would give minus stars if I could

Would give minus stars if I could. Need to sort out PAYE. Phone - first time I gave up after an hour on hold. Second time I was on an absolute age but got through - and then needed to be passed onto someone more senior. He said my code looked wrong and he would investigate further. He called me the next day tbf but I was at work. He did not try again. When trying to return the call you are back in the long long long wait again. Anyway tried to call again today - so much for a lunch break and had to end call without a resolution as this advisor told me I had to stay on the phone whilst they look at the problem! Mail - does not exist. Chat - dumb robot. Online service - logged in and hoped there would be a message from the senior adviser but nothing there. Customer service just non-existent.

NO LOYALTY TO THE PUBLIC IN DEALING WITH COMPLAINTS

I only put 1 star because no option to allocate no stars. HMRC have no loyalty to the public, they are only interested in getting money. For 3 years out of 5 years they have in error allocated my address against a LTD CLUB a road away from me that I have and never have had any affiliation with, they are so negligent that they picking up part of the companies Road SMITH road ( changed for security) and allocating it wrongfully against my home that is a different road name but my house name is SMITH COTTAGE (Changed for security) the same as the clubs ROAD name. The club has a different road name to mine as well so how they have allocated such a wrong address is beyond me. Three years out of the last 5 years the Club has gone into HMRC DEBT STATUS and HMRC notified Debt companies again of my address and not the Correct address. I have spent 3 years out of the last 5 contacting HMRC who notify they will not discuss it with me as I am not affiliated with the Club, even though they are wrongfully using my address in error. I have always notified the Club, even going in, and sent proof of my address and the clubs registered address to the Debt companies- but the issue with this is they state it doesn't mean its not me that the bills go to as my address may be the office address from the club, but they say themselves they can see the error. The Club until this year have never acted and never responded to my requests to inform HMRC of this error until this year when I sent recorded delivery letters stating I will take legal action. HMRC told me the first year I was not to open the mounds of debt letters addressed to my address and send them back not at this address- WHICH I DID and HMRC and the DEBT companies did nothing. The following years I opened these as stated as it is my property and the club will not act, my address is being used fraudulently as all parties have been notified and have the knowledge my address is being used in error, therefore still being used and FRAUDULENTLY. Fast forward to this year where I sent out recorded delivery letters again at a cost of £11 for 3 1st class, being many of costs this error keeps costing me, plus soo many calls to the debt companies and HMRC its must be hours and hours of my time. I send the letter to HMRC HEAD OFFICE COMPLAINTS in Oct 2024 to the debt companies, the Club, the Clubs Director. I get the recorded delivery letter to HMRC returned stating they do not accept recorded ??????. I get no response from the Clubs Director, I phone all the Debt companies and on receipt of the letter they'll put chasing MY ADDRESS on hold for now till sorted, and I go into the Club speaking to their manager giving her copies of all correspondence. I resend the letter at more cost tracked but not recorded to HMRC DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPLAINTS BX9 1JT so I have proof of sending on 19.11.24. I still have not today 15.01.25 had any reply. I call HMRC 14.01.25 who again state that as my complaint is about the Club that I have no affiliation with but they are using my address in error they will not talk to me !!!! I then call the adjudicator and ask him to take up my case and he states re the HMRC COMPLAINTS procedure he can only take up once I receive a reply !!!!!! I state but if I cant get a reply how do I get this resolved ?? and I state it also states on the HMRC website that once my complaint is received I will get a timescale sent of when I will get a reply and yet I have nothing. The Adjudicator states that to go online on HMRC and fill in the On Line complaint form - I state it says you can also write and as I had lots of documents to attach i.e. DEBT BILLS, COUNCIL PROOF AND COMPANY HOUSE PROOF OF ALL ADDRESSES I obviously needed to send the letter, as HMRC DO NOT HAVE AN EMAIL OPTION FOR COMPLAINTS, how strange. The Adjudicator notes that he gets many complaints where the complaints that letters seem to not be actioned and the online form does. I go on to the HMRC online form which I have spent hours on as HMRC on line form has issues. It allows a 1000 words and no attachments so you can only give a very basic statement. The form would not send and I looked on their online forum where it states it can take characters, apostrophes etc, so I spent hours retrying , I then emailed the online support team who notify me there is currently an error where the form ONLY accepts characters nothing else and is being investigated !!!!! WHY not put that on the website, seems the public have to work extra hard to make a complaint ! is the purpose that we give up ? I wish I could but with debt companies biting my heals for a debt that has nothing to do with me I have no choice but to invest hours and money in trying to resolve a ridiculously negligent error of HMRCS doing. SHOCKING HMRC HAS NO CUSTOMER LOYALTY OR HELP.

HMRC office in Eastbourne,

Tried to visit HMRC office in Eastbourne this morning, very difficult to find and they have a premium rate phone number so contacting them is also expensive. Apparently they open at 8am but that didnt happen. If only HMRC did their jobs properly an attempted visit would not have been necessary.

I retired at the end of June 2024and…

I retired at the end of June 2024and was overtaxed on my final pay, when I phoned they told me I would have to wait 5 weeks and 1 day before I coul get anything done. I was told to fill out a P50 and call back then. When I looked at the P50 it says that you can't use this form if your claiming state pension. I waited the requisit 5 weeks and 1 day and phoned back, they confirmed that the P50 wasn't the form for me, they said that I would get my money back till after the end of the current tax year, even though they ackwoldge that I have overpaid tax, it is about £1000 they owe me. I think this is ridiculous, it is my money, they are not long in taking it if you owe them money. Between the government screwing me out of my winter fuel allowance and the tax man illegally withholding money that is rightfully mine, I, as a pensioner, am being deprived of living my life to the full, my only income is £221.20 a week. I hope they choke on their christmas dinner, I'll me lucky to get one.

Appalling service from a Government Agency

If there was a star below 1 i would gladly apply multiple negatives. How can a government agency be so poor when dealing with the publics tax code issues. It would appear that paye members are an easy target as the system allows them to take tax at source. Nomdom's being allowed free reign to do as they please. 1hr 21mins on hold to speak to an advisor to be cut off by an automated system. How on earth can the hard working general public get through to a human. Automated bot systems don't work and we aren't all fully conversant with the tax office computer system all we want is advice and someone to have some common sense to speak too. Why put a phone number on official documents if people can't get through?

The service simply does not exist! Awful!!!

I have lived in at least 6 countries due to work. The worst service for Revenue and Customers is definitely in the UK. The HMRC support is useless. You can't hold a call, you need to wait about 1 hour on the phone, and the system is crap. You never receive the code in your phone, you get instability when accessing and error messages with no sense. (I work in IT and can tell with confidence how bad it is) I am very very disappointed with the service. The only problem is that we can't avoid it. There is no other channel or company to do that. After calling 5 times and waiting more than one hour to have my call dropped, I am now planning to hire someone to call them (it is comic, I know). When you are busy 1 hour (5 in my case) is a very expensive time to demand to a HMRC error.
