Don't care. Call the other guys....
Had the misfortune of having to deal with Newton Property and in particular the assigned representative despite them not being our property factor. They are the factor for the adjacent property which had the entire rear of the building’s roughcasting removed and replaced over the span of several weeks. The issue arose with the building contractor they used. They caused damage to plants, pots, lights, a bench and washing line pole. Also leaving loads of rubble and rubbish behind. I first contacted Newton property about this in April after the contractors had up and left. Spoke to Jack Munro who asked me to forward photos of the mess and damage which I did…. Then I heard nothing. I had left messages with him and when I finally got through to him his claim was he hadn’t checked his messages. Each time I called I would have to explain over and over again to a receptionist what the issue was and each time I would explain that I cannot leave a message since everytime JM had failed to reply to every previous message. The contractors did come out and clean up the mess and remove the rubbish but according to JM they would only accept responsibility for the broken plant pots. This was discussed back and forth over the next few weeks, each time I was assured by JM that I would be contacted later that day or the next but absolutely nothing from him. I’m of the view I think the incredulous approach taken by JM was if he just ignored it I would go away in time. In the end (approx 5 or 6 weeks later) I asked one of the receptionists the name of his department head and this finally prompted a response from JM. That response was that the damage is not their responsibility and I should have to take it up with the contractor. The last contact I had with Newton Property was with the department head John Hempstead who reiterated it's not their responsibility and again take it up with the contractor. On asking for the contractor details I never received a reply. The damage and garbage was documented and the work should not have been signed off till all issues are resolved. Newton Property are the ones that facilitated this job getting done and should be reviewing its completion is done to standard while ensuring 3rd party property is not damaged in the process. There really needs to be a governing body for not just Newton Property but all building factors. The approach taken by JM of hoping it will go away and dissolving themselves of all responsibility was utterly unacceptable. Reply to reply -----------------> I had already sked for the contractor details but never got a reply. Seems to be consistent with your reps. As for vehemently denying the damage. There was an acceptance to some of the damage already and nothing was done about that either. All of which was documented by photographs. For what it is worth, this review and your reply is a good insight for others to see what type of company they will be dealing with should something occur with your incredulous approach. Your reply only serves to highlight the dismissive tactic I had since the first contact.
