Smooth transaction.. Until it wasn't.
Our rental experience on the south Island was smooth and effective. Unfortunately this was not the case during our north Island rental. Pick up was unremarkable but drop off was complicated by the fact that our vehicle was hit in a parking lot while we were exploring the aquarium. The staff seemed unsure of the process of how to document the damage, the length of time that the repair receipt would take to come in, or who to contact if there was issues. The employee we dealt with was frankly rude to us and two of his coworkers while we were there. Ultimately $3000 was charged immediately with plan to refund based on how much it costed to fix the car. After five weeks of not hearing about any partial refund, we needed to contact GoRental on several occasions without an email or call back. Thankfully we finally got the receipt and there are reports of repairs on parts of the vehicle that did not sustain any damage. Overall was an unfortunate end to our otherwise fantastic New Zealand trip, especially considering the damage was not caused by ourselves. Edited May 11/25 Additional charges made to our card 3 months after returning the car, without discussion. Additional charges included parts not damaged by us. When I emailed them, it was made out to have been a favor that we got the initial charges sorted out 4 weeks after dropping the car off and there was no acknowledgement that we had pictures of pre-existing damage to the fixed areas that we were charged for. Later told we would be contacted by the Auckland branch and of course we not. Overall communication with this company has been an absolute nightmare. 3 months of a headache after holidays for a fender bender we didn't cause. Steer clear of this company.
