Deposit scam

To be upfront and clear, this review will be factual and will not hold any biased opinions. I rented a property through HML Lettings. Everything was fine as David was fab - he would go out of his way to help. The problem arose when I was moving out and Michael, David's manager, was dealing with the return of the deposit. He sided with the landlord and was adamant to scam as much as possible off of me. I admitted any damages, however small, that I had caused throughout my tenancy. However, I was being billed an unreasonable amount for 'general cleaning', which I had already done. As I questioned this, he would not budge and handled the situation very unprofessionally. I explained that I would take the matter through Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS), to which his response was "I do not believe it is in anyone’s best interests to drag this out for what will likely be four to six weeks for a minimal difference in monies if indeed any at all but ultimately that is your choice." Clearly he does not care since it is not his money? Couple of weeks down the line, the adjudicator report came back and surely enough, I was returned over half of the deposit that he had claimed. To address Michael's point, turns out it was worth it. My advise to anyone who decides to rent through HML Lettings, is to make sure you question any deposit deductions and make sure it is protected under TDS. This review was only given 1 star because David has been so great. 0 star otherwise. EDIT: Thanks for your reply. I am glad at least our story is lining up. The bottom line is, you asked for deposit that you are not entitled to and bullied me into trying to accept it. At least, now I stand with what belongs to me, returned.
