Lying thieving crooks
Dexters Clapham South Longish review, but avoid renting through Dexters like the plague, they're an absolute cancer of a company filled with lying, thieving crooks. If you do have the misfortune of renting with them, you'll find they ignore emails, delay essential repairs, and treat tenants as an afterthought. The only care is money. You'll find they never want to keep a paper trail of anything, their preferred communication is via phone call so that they can lie with no evidence after the fact. Before moving in, we received a list of promised repairs and work which were never completed - including one which they're now trying to use as a reason to deduct from our deposit. In the build up to move-in day, they ignored repeated emails simply asking where and when to collect keys. Throughout our tenancy, the only way to get a response with any urgency was to copy in the landlord directly. Even then, essential issues like a hole in the roof (during winter) or a broken washing machine dragged on for over a month despite constant chasing. Pigeons nested underneath our decking, prior to us even moving in, and this issue went unsolved for 6+ months and took us as well as our neighbours contacting dexters repeatedly to solve the issue. They never provided keys to access the bins or postbox and just shrugged this issue off as not their problem. They insisted on invasive work inside the property a bit after a year we moved, which left the flat filthy and coated in dust. Our complaints were brushed off with a casual "oh yeah that's not good" when a staff member came to check on the work - no effort to rectify it. Responses to any issue took days, sometimes over a week. If you're expecting basic competence or even the most minimal duty of care, you'll be disappointed. When it came time to leave and new unsuspecting people were viewing the property, on more than one occasion they arrived with no warning. After moving out, the experience somehow managed to get worse. Despite hiring a professional end-of-tenancy cleaning service, they now claim it wasn’t up to standard—refuse to say what the issue is, won’t let our cleaners return to fix it, and instead want to charge us £250 for their own preferred company - no doubt so they can receive a financial kickback from said company.
