Not enough diligence, failed to ensure service charges of previous owners are cleared
I have used pls a few times, and it went well before. This time I purchased a leasehold property, where I repetitively asked will outstanding service charge be paid by seller, so there was a fund in retention for 6 month. But not long enough as management company published the last year service charge after 9 months. Now been told there is nothing they can do as the fund was released back to seller. They were aware that new statement was going to come out later then retention period but did not advise anything. the manager just said it is bad luck that I will likely need to pay for it. I was never advised about the risks of short retention fund periods otherwise I would push for 12 months. I have Asked a few times on how long the retention fund will be held for. No response. I am considering going to legal ombudsman. As why I have to pay such large amount of service charges that is liable of the previous owner.
