Our experience with AERCAR at Paphos
This was our experience with AERCAR car rental at Paphos. The car was booked in advance from Discovercars.com and I also added a full car insurance coverage. The car collection instructions were self-explanatory and after waiting for few minutes the driver turned up and picked us up from the airport. We picked up our luggage and went to the rental office. There were two people sitting behind the desk and none of them even bothered to say hello. After waiting for 10 mins suddenly one of them spoke up and said, give me your passport, driving licence and credit card! Sounded like Arnie from the Terminator “Give me your boots your clothes and your motorcycle” I was like OK… Once the paperwork was completed, I was advised and reminded to take photographs of the car inspect and fill the sheet including scratches, damage etc… before driving off the yard. That was very strange as I never had to do anything like it with other car rental companies. The car given to us was a white Kia Ceed. I did record the whole car, undercarriage including interior. After the inspection, my family and I sat in a car, and I was welcomed with this enormously thick steering wheel cover a worn-out clutch and a warning message on the dashboard “Check tyre pressure low”! Checked the tyres and it looked OK. As I drove the car and used brakes it started making clunking noises once the brake pedal was disengaged, I assume it had a worn-out ball joints or bushes. We finally managed to get to our hotel and then few days later decided to go to explore the island. We went to mountain side and drove on E740 road. The road did have warning signs “danger falling rocks”. As we were driving down the mountain around the corner, two rocks fell off and one of them went under the car hitting fuel tank. We only realised something bad has happened after smelling fuel inside the car. We managed to pull over and park on the side of the road. The fuel was leaking very badly so I called Aercar customer service and reported the incident. Unsurprisingly I was greeted with an anger and telling me off for driving off-road. The accident happened in this location, google maps 35.079167, 32.621297 judge it for yourself if this road is an off-road to you. Then I was told off for crossing the border and driving on the Turkish side, which we never did. Anyway, I had to send my location and few photos which I did. Someone came to pick us up within 1hour 30mins which was quick. So, now we are back at AERCAR rental office and as the first time, no one was bothered to say hello. I was called in and politely reminded not to drive off-road and somehow the lady knew that road very well. I was so mad and showed the video of the road and she was speechless. I was then suddenly told to fill incident report and pay €950 for the damage which I did. After the paperwork I was given a replacement car which was Fiat Panda. Again, they reminded me of inspecting the car and taking photographs of the damage etc… That day we drove straight to the hotel and left it in a car park. BTW the exhaust on this thing was rattling like a hell and the brakes were squeaking like a train stopping to a station. The next morning, I was kindly surprised with a flat tire. I reported incident to the office and they sent out an engineer to replace the tire. I was going to change it myself but the spare tire was also flat, how good is that! OK, we are back on the road and approaching a tunnel, I turn the lights on and suddenly I’m welcomed with an engine management light! Pulled over, turned the engine and lights off and started the car. The low tyre warning message was displayed but at least the fault code was cleared for now. The car returning process was very smooth, why? because there was a British person behind the desk. He checked the car and voided a credit card fee. I told him about the car and was told there are worst cars then this! Paphos AERCAR if you read this, please recruit someone with a smile and knows how to treat customers and scrap dangerous cars instead of given them to your customers! Would I hire a car from you again? A big fat NO! Honestly, I would stair away and rather pay more and have a safe car instead.
