Restricted Views and Unfair Customer Service
We recently attended the Ludovico Einaudi concert at Edinburgh Castle, and while the music was as breathtaking as expected, our experience was significantly diminished by poor ticketing transparency and a lack of support. We paid £62.50 each for Block 14, Row CC, Seats 23–25. Despite being told after the fact that these were "not classified as restricted view," our line of sight was severely limited. From our seats, we could only see half the musicians and Ludovico himself. We had no view whatsoever of the animated visuals that clearly formed part of the show’s atmosphere, a major loss for an immersive experience. We also spent over two hours squinting into direct sunlight, including during much of Ludovico’s set. Sunglasses weren’t enough, we were shielding our faces and straining to see. The large video screens, which might have helped, were out of sync with the audio, making them more distracting than useful. We missed the support act due to long queues at the entrance and were further frustrated by the long delay between Sam Lee and Ludovico. Though the venue layout may be challenging, we were not warned to expect such disruptions. Nor were we informed that people would be allowed in well after the show had started, causing entire rows to stand mid-performance. I raised these concerns with the ticket seller and was told that because the seats technically had a “clear line of sight to the principal artist,” they were not considered restricted view. This is misleading. A technicality like that doesn’t reflect the actual viewing experience. I was also told that the seats were among the “second lowest priced options” but £62.50 is still a considerable amount for seats that failed to deliver a full view or comfort. Pricing tiers don’t excuse poor visibility or a diminished experience. Other audience members near us were moved or left altogether, but staff were not accessible once the main set had begun, so we didn’t want to further disrupt those around us by seeking help. In short, the ticketing process did not accurately reflect the quality of the seats or the experience they would provide. I strongly advise future attendees to research seating blocks in detail and to be cautious when booking through this seller. At this level and price point, audiences deserve clarity, fairness, and support, not just technicalities after the fact.
