Don't hire a car from Routes. I hired a car from Routes at Vancouver BC and did a road trip to Banff. Before crossing into Alberta, I called Routes customer care and also sent an email to Routes to ensure they were well advised that the car had entered a new providence. Two days later I received an email advising they were charging me approx $600 penalty for not advising that I had left BC and crossed into a new providence. Three weeks later, after many emails and providing evidence of the calls and the email to Routes, I am still trying to get my money refunded. I am beginning to believe that crossing the border is their underhanded way of extracting more money from customers.
