Acted quickly to my feedback and resolved my issue

We had a hiccup when we attended for our extended test drive which meant it did not go ahead. I left a review here. I was impressed with how quickly John Grose got in touch to resolve the situation so I have amended the review.

Know exactly what you are letting yourself in for

If you buy a car from Cargiant, set expectations very low. Read the negative reviews here, this will prepare you. I travelled 126 miles as I needed car urgently, wife had written her car off. About to leave dealership with £25k car and discovered issues, heated seat not working, suspension noise, Sunday evening, dealership about to close. I was reassured, “just pop to a local garage, we will pay to get fixed” - big mistake! Apparently their cars have passed “demanding quality and safety checks” - be very sceptical, doesn’t pick up obvious suspension problem, malfunctioning HVAC equipment with almost no refrigerant left, MOT failure rear tyres, mismatched new front tyres (legal but highly dubious and poor practice actively chosen by Cargiant) Cargiant will be petty, pedantic, rude, obstructive. They will do everything they can to make things difficult. Their attitude is that they have done you a favour selling a “cheap” car (25k) and you should be grateful they are “assisting you” while you do the donkey work to fix the problems. They will have you running around getting multiple quotes and even when you get 70% goodwill discount from main dealer they will make life difficult. Communications are actively unhelpful, rude, obstructive, dismissive. Examples of their ethos include: they fitted different brand tyres to front axle. Asked why, paraphrasing, “because we can, it’s not illegal, against best practice yes but we put on whatever we have lying around that would pass an MOT”, this is technically legal but against all best practice. The rear tyres were legal tread depth but seriously damaged with deep cuts on both, would be an MOT failure. I complained. Mismatched tyres “tough, they are legal”. MOT failure rear tyres?Complaint ignored. For context, this is a 3 year old low mileage family car costing £25k that is capable of 60mph in 4.7s and this is their approach to safety and customer care. Important to understand their culture on basic things like this, it sets the tone and is pervasive through all my dealings with them so far. Do not expect sympathetic customer focussed attention with a desire to make good. Expect the absolute legal minimum and if you don’t like it “tough” - I don’t have space to publish their emails here but they are shocking to read. This is what you are dealing with. I have spent hours subsequently trying to arrange remaining repairs with Volvo locally. The remaining two repairs were quoted at approx £1100. I have managed to negotiate goodwill from Volvo reducing one repair to £0 and the other to £210 (70% goodwill) and yet Cargiant are still being obstructive and unhelpful. You may think that when paying £25k for a car you will be treated correctly, you will not. Imagine you had paid £4k to a backstreet garage, how would you be treated, this will set the correct expectation. I have purchased many used and new cars over the years, last purchase was new Tesla before this, three relatively cheap used cars for my sons (excellent service from all three vendors of cars around £7k) dozens of cars total. Never known or dealt with a business with such a poor attitude. Do yourself a massive favour. Avoid at all costs.
