Covered North and South Island
The location of the tour in New Zealand and the fact that it covered both north and south island was the reason we chose this holiday. In general the hotels and roads were good. It was a coach trip implying early starts especially considering the distances travelled each day. Of the 17 nights' tour we spent two nights at only three hotels, all the others were one night only. The cases had to be packed and ready pretty early ie 6am or once or twice 7am and we arrived at the next hotel in the late afternoon, sometimes around 5pm with evening meal booked for 6.30pm so a bit of a rush and full on. The time spent on the coach was interrupted every two hours or so for a half an hour break or at lunchtime 3/4 hour. These stops were most often where ever there was a chance of picking up a packed lunch or having a coffee. I had no knowledge of New Zealand which is why we chose an organised coach tour. However, apart from a lot of scenery the trip didn't offer much that a tourist would like to experience. That said it was a good way of getting an overview of the country.
