They left me confused for life!
My encounter with Great Jones will probably have me scratching my head the rest of my life. I live in Atlanta but was considering moving to Alabama. I drove there around May2022,to look at houses and go for an interview with the housing authority. I am on section 8. After almost getting scammed TWICE,I ran across Great Jones website. I was told to go to the actual site instead of the sister companies because many are fake sites. By July I began conversing one on one, with Rodrigo Gonzales. I told him I was running out of time and after running a background check he promised a particular house to me. The background check was actually done and I had no reason to be suspicious. That was, until it was time to pay the deposit. They tried to say there was no deposit to be paid but that I must get home insurance instead. The insurance had to be paid for 3 years. After doing some digging I realized THEY were supposed to pay the insurance. Because once I moved out the insurance is non-refundable. Who wants to pay every month and not get a penny back in the end? I realized he hadnt been honest so I had to be careful. He knew that i was disabled and retired. And that my money come in on the 3rd. So the 1st month rent $1,200 had to be paid right away. Problem is, they hadnt even contacted my caseworker to draw up a contract between them and Secrion8 for their portion that they pay. This made me cautious. Three months of back and forth, then all of a sudden he expected me to just wire him that kind of money. He threatened to give the house to someone else if i didnt send 1200 pronto! I asked if he would call section 8 to confirm that their company was legit and he wouldnt do it. He was ready to forget about the whole thing! Putting people in desperation mode is a common scamming tactic. Imagine 3 months of hope and he was ready to drop it. I realized I had to trick him into calling Section 8. I came up with some story about how my caseworker needed to get some number from them or she would kick me off the program for going pass the expiration date. IT WORKED. He called her and she confirmed that the company didnt exist and Rodrigo didnt know a thing about property management or leasing. She even spoke to HER boss about it. And Great Jones, the property management company DIDNT EXIST! Now this puzzles me. I see all the poor reviews so it must be a legit business. But somethings not right about this company. They probably do buy up property to sell. But I dont think they rent many like they claim. I kinda think the reviews are fake. Maybe They must keep changing the name due to shady business practices. I just dunno I am confused.
