Don't expect high expectations unless you're drunk in which case it won't matter!
Paid for a suite so expected high standards in the 4 star rated hotel in Birmingham. Check in time was 3:00pm, we arrived at 3:30pm and the room wasn't ready. The nice receptionist asked us to wait a short period whilst the room was cleaned. 10 minuntes later we were called back to reception and given the key cards to our room. The lobby looks like it should clean and spacious and the hotel is high tech with touch pad entry with ur key cards. The suite was as described large. That's all the good bits! We got to our room, relaxed a little before heading out. Our fault for not checking the entire suite. When we arrived back from our trip out, the room smelt damp. It's had turned a little cold so tried to heat the room using the a/c. Again all electrical, 30 mins of messing around trying to use it with no avail, so called down to reception to be told they lower the temperature for spring, but to put it on automatic and that they will increase the room temperature from reception. And hour later still cold. Just felt fobbed off by reception staff. Didn't have the energy to argue. Woke up in the morning to go shower to find long brown hair in the shower tray! It would explain how a suite was cleaned in 10 minutes. Shower is described as monsoon shower, felt more like a drizzle! My wife showered around 11:30am to find the water was luke warm! Tip shower early if you like it hot! The website advises late checkout at extra cost..cost not a problem - but when you ask first time round you get told we don't do late checkout on a Sunday. Only after complaining that the room wasn't ready on checkin were we given the option for late checkout. The website advises it has a private car park, it does, but get there early as it's very limited for space and is a gravel pit, so if you're worried about your paint work on your new car, park in Selfridges! Night reception staff need training on customer service! The best thing about the hotel - the quick checkout! Really disappointed with the hotel for putting a dampener on our late anniversary celebrations! After reading more reviews, it's seems the same story over the night staff even though the General manager says she'll be dealing with the issues from previous clients complaints... obviously staff learn from the management on ways to fob off their guests. So we got an automated email from Clayton Hotels, saying they were sorry for our experience and to contact their deputy manager - who replied saying he will look investigate the matter and be in touch. Over two weeks later and no response. This is where the night staff get their training from!
