Amber has a great marketing hype...BUT.....
Amber has a great marketing hype that you will save $$$ because they consider themselves as a wholesaler. However, in the first 6 months everything was running great in terms of saving electricity bills. But after that I've been receiving 'Price Spike' every day. It starts off with a couple of price spike a week, then they gradually increase it once you're with them for over 6-8 months. They will tell you about the time of the spike and will let you know to avoid using too much electricity during the spike hike, but I noticed that the price spike happens during peak hours... so how do you avoid that when you need electricity ... I have 40 solar panels (12kw system) and was saving energy from another provider more than a year ago. I used to pay between $20-$60 a month, but ever since I moved to Amber Electric, it's just a catastrophe. Only in one day my usage cost spiked to $43 and some other days are usually between $3 - $20. According to their site, price spikes are rare events that occur for 30min- 2hours (refer to their site under price spike). In fact, it happens every day and you will get price spikes twice or three times a day. You might find you will save $$$ in the first 3-6 months after you sign up, but after that they will hit you multiple price spike and that's how they will recuperate their money back from you. This is a complete 1 year experience with Amber electricity, so I would consider going somewhere else.
