I feel that Titan really let us down
This is really a follow up review after my last for Titan Travel in June 2024. Then I awarded 3 stars because of a dreadful experience trying to book a holiday in India with an extension to Shimla. Now that I have been back home for some months I should update it with the actual experience. Have they earned more stars? No- they have earned less. Four reasons- 1) The hotel in Shimla was changed from the Oberoi (which we REALLY wanted to stay in) to the ITC Welcome just days before we left. The ITC is down a 2km single track off an already poor main road 10km out of Shimla. It is totally isolated and whilst a lovely hotel it would be impossible to simply walk into Shimla. There is no shuttle into town. Whilst the local rep was very helpful he was clearly embarrassed by our predicament and gave us another guide and car free of charge the next day. The Oberoi is an old colonial hotel in Shimla. This was a material change which Titan outright refused to change back. I would imagine because the contract with the ITC was binding and the customer mattered not at all. 2) Our hotel in Ranthambore was changed from the Regency to the Kothi with no notice whatever. We only knew when the coach pulled into the car park. 3) There was HUGE confusion over tipping with the brochure explaining that tour managers were tipped but guides were included. Our tour manager said that he had been downgraded to guide but still collected tips for everyone. 4) My wife is somewhat hard of hearing and despite trying to explain this to every guide we met they simply were not geared up to cope at all. We did get to wonderful places with a great group of fellow travellers but together with the original booking difficulties this holiday proved a bit of a trial.
