Their administrative team is lacking…
Their administrative team is lacking and inconsistent. Most companies tell you up front exactly what your insurance covers. Rula sent me a statement indicating that my copay was $0 but failed to say, "you need to meet a $3500 deductible". Most practices that I work with, let you know what you are responsible for before you proceed. I just lost my home to the Palisades Fire and I'm not in a financial situation where I can afford to pay $3500 before getting coverage for individual therapy. Their therapy services are at minimum $126 per session. I would have to do 25-27 sessions before a $0 copay would kick in. And, they let me do several sessions until I found out I owed over $700. There are plenty of other services that offer lower priced individual therapy, if I'm going to have to pay for it. Rula gets 1 star for having my existing therapist, who is amazing....Now, for the COUPLES therapy criticism... My partner signed up with Rula to get couples therapy for us (we lost our home to the fire and just needed some support). Somehow Rula's administrative informed him that the couples therapy wasn't covered by our insurance. Rula gets the second star for that. He was ok with paying the $150 charge for the 50 minute session. The first session was going to be an intake. During the intake session, the therapist proceeded to direct the majority of the questions to my partner, barely asking me any questions. This IS COUPLES THERAPY. He finally asked, "Why aren't you asking her the same questions?" The therapist replied that it was because HE scheduled the appointment. It still didn't make sense because this IS COUPLES THERAPY. He scheduled couples therapy so that we both could utilize tools to work together and yes, we understand that the first session was the intake session but the therapist still should have asked both of us same, if not similar questions. After the session, the therapist sent an email to my partner and basically said she was writing in the client file that she assumed we would be finding another therapist and wished us luck. Wow.... she didn't even ask, just assumed. When it was PATH, it was better. Now, it's Rula, and with what happened, I don't think I could ever recommend RULA to anyone. I felt like it was a bait and switch. I've had better experiences with Headway and BetterHelp. At least, I know exactly what I'm getting and what I'm paying for.
