Mixed feelings
Mixed feelings - A couple of years ago we installed a heat pump. We were on E.ON's variable tariff. Every six months in Spring and Autumn E.ON automatically reassessed our monthly payments. Because the heat pump now ran our hot water and central heating, which were previously on gas, the Spring assessment was too high, reflecting our Winter usage, and the Autumn assessment was too low. Their system was not taking our annual consumption pattern into account. We needed a way of making regular payments through the year based on our true annual consumption. When I explained the problem to the helpline, they were very eager to help and went out of their way to assist, but they can only offer the solutions their system allows them to. While the debit built up over Winter was arguably not exceptional for a heatpump user, I had to pay that off before being put on a new tariff. I am now on a fixed monthly tariff based on the true annual usage. I breathed a sigh of relief when the first payment went through today, and am thankful for that - but then, why should I have to lock myself into a fixed tariff (with an early leaving penalty) to solve the problem? And are other heat pump users having the same problem?
