Unjustified fees

We bought out our rental furnace and water softener from reliance, we were selling our home and was told it’s better for resale. We had to buy them out for 7K for a 5 year old furnace and almost 12 year old water softener. When it was paid off, I was assured by Reliance that the full amount was paid and that the account was closed. A couple days ago, less than 10 days to the closing of our house, we received an email from our lawyer, she received a statement from Relaince that an additional 9k is owing. Where this magical number is coming from I do not know. When I called them, I was told I would have to wait 3-5 business days before receiving a statement. We are now thinking of suing Reliance, this amount is absurd considering we have paid them in full for what the buy out was and was assured that it was paid in full and account closed, this is causing nothing but grief and headaches for my wife and I at a time when we should be celebrating moving into our new home. I will never deal with Relaince again.
