Impossible to Cancel Auto-Renew — Parents Beware
I had three lines with Mint Mobile (myself and my two kids). To put us on one plan, Mint forces you into a “Mint Family” setup that also forces auto-renewal. There is no option to turn it off unless you leave the family plan. When I tried to cancel due to moving abroad, the only option Mint gave me was to cancel the "Mint Family," which removed my access to my kids’ accounts and even sent them texts saying they were responsible for their own plans—they are minors! I had to spend 1.5 hours on support chat just to figure out how to turn off auto-renewal (which I mostly had to figure out on my own because the information they gave was contradictory and didn't line up). I was forced to end the family plan, help my daughter cancel auto-renew through a text Mint sent HER, and dig deep into hidden settings to disable auto-renew on my own line. By contrast, enabling auto-renew is easy and front-and-center on the dashboard, but disabling it is deliberately buried. I also wanted to keep one child’s line active for just one more month (since he was joining us abroad later), but Mint offered no option for a one-month service — only longer auto-renewals. This is manipulative and unfair to customers. It should not take multiple steps, lost parental controls, and support intervention just to turn off auto-renew. The only reason this is 2 stars is because the service itself worked fine. Not as cheap as they let on in the ads, but it was good enough service. But ending it is time-consuming and so frustrating. All that said, the hassle of turning off auto-renew is reason enough for me to never use Mint again.
