Disappointing experience
I had a deeply disappointing experience with SunExpress during my recent flight from Antalya to Bristol. As a British citizen and a professor of Electrical Engineering at a UK university, I was surprised and disheartened by the way I was treated by the airline staff. At check-in, I was informed that my English skills were in question and that this had been reported to the gate staff for verification of my British passport. This assumption was not only unfounded but also offensive, especially considering that the staff who questioned my English had poor command of the language themselves. At the gate, I was asked, “Do you speak English?” – an ironic and frustrating moment that reflected a lack of professionalism and cultural sensitivity. I travel frequently for academic and professional purposes, and this experience stands out as one of the worst I’ve encountered. The lack of respect and the implicit bias displayed by the staff were both unacceptable. Based on this encounter, I will not be flying with SunExpress again, and I cannot recommend this airline to others who expect fair treatment.
