Technician actually made something worse

I have a service contract with Engie Home Services for which I pay a lot. It gives me unlimited repair service. I called repair service to fix my thermostat. The batteres had died after 2-3 years, and I could not open the unit with my screwdriver so as to replace them. The technician arrived and also could not turn the plastic screw that opens the device. By dint of trying he totally ruined the screw. Then, instead of offering to replace the thermostat, he had the nerve to tell me I would have to replace the thermostat at my own expense. I complained to the director ot the Paris office and received no response. Engie Home Services pretends to be customer-friendly, but it seems that in Paris they have the same old time-honored Parisian attitude that "the customer is always wrong." The customer can expect to be mistreated.
