Celebrity Cruises
We had a cruise on the Constellation last year as part of our holiday. After spending some quality time in Rome we boarded the Constellation with the expectation of spending some quality time on a cruise before continuing our holiday in Venice. Unfortunately our cruise got off to a bad start when we arrived at the ship as we had asked for assistance as my wife was in a wheelchair. We did not get any. We then discovered the ship was very tired and not up to the standard one would have expected. To cap the cruise off half way through my wife’s leg became swollen and we went to see the doctor whilst we were in a port. The doctor looked at my wife’s leg and without examining it he said “That looks like a DVT to me. You have 1 hour to get off the ship. What is going to happen is you (pointing to my wife) are going to stay here while you (pointing at me) are going to your cabin and pack all your belongings. I will arrange help. We were then dumped off the ship. They had arranged an ambulance for my wife and a taxi to take me to the hotel they had booked (non wheelchair friendly). After 20 hours in A&E my wife was given the all clear and signed off as fit to sail and fly. We then contacted them via our travel agent giving them the details and tried to return to our cruise to meet up with our friends who were with us on the holiday. They refused to let us return to the ship. We had to stay in our hotel in southern Italy until we could fly up to Venice to meet up with our friends and complete our holiday. We then spent quality time in Venice. At no time after we were thrown off the ship did Celebrate speak to us directly during our trip. They did phone us in the early hours of the morning once we got home and said if we wanted to speak to them we should phone them back. We asked to be reimbursed for the time we were not on the ship but they refused point blank to refund any cost of the cruise. I think we are probably overly generous awarding them 1 star considering the treatment we received.
